Had to come really didn't it? What is your favourite car ever. Ever. (Well, until this day).

Personally I would have to go for a Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500. Never driven one and only seen it in the flesh once but, wow, just seeing that car is amazing.

To say that I have an obsession with French and Italian cars is an understatement. In the 60's and 70's no one made cars which were as desirable, attractive and just plain beautiful as the French and the Itaians. I couldn't fit the Alfa Romeo Montreal in there but I want one!!!!!

That's being very unfair on the Morris Marina.

 The scary thing is Caroline would probably agree with you. She likes old Britcars :mark:

I am a sucker for old cars which have a race/rally history Obviously I am more biased towards the rally side of things though :) I almost exploded when I thought there was a Quattro Sport on sale at a local garage but it looks like it's owned by someone who works there :(

The other thing is that so few of them were made, for obvious reasons. I bet old roadgoing Ascona and Manta 400s are worth a fair bit nowadays.

I saw my first Manta the other day. Going sideways around a corner here in Wales  It's quite a privelige to see these cars being rallied when you've never even seen one of them before :) I guess the rarity is part of the charm I much prefer Caroline's Legacy RS than any Impreza mainly because it's not very common.

I also have an obsession like Daniel but its something totally different. I like anything with a naturally asprirated engine rather than a whiny turbo but my favourite car since time began and the one I am completely obsessed with is pretty obvious: http://www.rally37.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/viper/gts/images/gts32.jpg

I don't have an obsession ;) I just have good taste in cars :D

Tbh I'm not hugely fussed about not having a turbo or not but having driven a turbocharged car I can see the charm because you have power to overtake when you need it without having to lug a big engine around with you all the time :) Only two of the cars I posted aren't n/a as well. One has a turbocharger and the other has a supercharger. I wouldn't buy any of the above cars for the engine. I'd buy them because I fell in love  Sounds weird I know!

Only 3 cars have ever made go "I so want one of them"

1. Austin Mini Cooper S - the giant killer. I used to own one of these.

2. Ford Ka - I currently own one and it's still got the KAWAII factor even after all this time. I saw one at the 96 Paris Motor Show and made up my mind then, that I would own one Oh Yes, It Will Be Mine

3. Mitsuoka Ray - believe it or not this car was made in 1999. I have tried desperately to buy one of these ever since I saw one, but have never won the auctions. A good one currently resales for about £12K

Having grown up around a lot of Japanese GT racers, and played the Gran Turismo games a hell of a lot, I have a particularly fond affection for Nissan's, Honda's and Mazda's. Such as the following RX-8, which I would almost certainly take as getting enough money for an Impreza WRX/C would be nigh on impossible.

There is a white one in Hereaboutsland, it's truly beautiful, but man it's tiny compared to a normal Focus.

Daniel
12th December 2006, 13:56
Yes. Well even my big 504 was low compared to modern hatches :mark: Cars look so much better when they're low slung beasts like the GTA is. My brother had the GT version (same thing but no aluminium panels, comes with bumpers, bigger (but less powerful engine) and different grille. That car really had some class and looked great.

I understand why people like modern day supercars but the thing is in 10 years time people will probably not remember a lot of the supercars of today. Whereas there will be some cars that are timeless and will always be great  The GTA is one of them for sure

I wouldn't mind one of these. Built on the same floorpan as the Giulia Sprint GT but with a small V8 engine and even better looks (in my opinion at least)

Yep, I know its the car is a complete heap of junk, the Delorean DMC 12 is the most beautiful I've ever seen, and not just because its in of my all time fave movies but also there is so many connotations with my childhood.

The car was designed by the infamous Giugiaro, who did the Esprit which evolved from the Maserati Boomerang concept. The Boomerang was such an influential design by Giugiaro in the 70s and early part of the 80s. My dad owned an original white Audi Quattro and VW MkII Scirocco both penned by Giugiaro. Because I watched Back To The Future so many times as a kid, it was hard for me not to fall in love with Giugario and the influential 'wedge' design. The Delorean is my absolute favourite from that era.

The last time I tried to name my favourite car the list ran to more that 50 long.

If I had to cut it down then the Ford Escort MK2 would make an appearence (with a millington engine :cheese: ) Also the Giulia that Daniel mentioned (kind of car that makes you cross your legs, pure porn) and an Austin Healley3000 Mk3 and an Evo 9, and a 250 gto, and an E-Type, and Mini Cooper, also the Bugatti T35 that was mentioned earlier would be nice, and a Merc 300sl, and an F40 would go amiss, or a Lambo Miura, maybe a Lotus Cortina too.

Reckon that the Alfa would be top of the pile along with the Brera and a 147 GTA. Never mind what they handle like or their reputation for reliabilty problems, the smile you'd get whenever you looked onto the drive would make it all worthwhile :D

Is SA South Africa or South Australia? Either way, they need a life.

My all time dream car? Cannot bring it down to less than 2. I have thought long and hard.

First off, a 1968 Hemi Cuda. The fast back window, the compact proportions and that honking 426 ci Mopar make it the best car to drive around in my home town on a summer night. Why? Oshawa is a GM town, and all the street rod's and cruisers think the sun rises and sets on Chevrolet, and I just HAVE to tick people off. Nothing better than a Hemi for that.

My other choice is easy, a 1964 Ferrari 250 Superamerica coupe. Nothing sounds sexier than a v12 with 6 honking 2 barrel Weber's....man I am needing a cold shower now!!

Along those lines, I'll pick the Ferrari Daytona of 1968-1974. Old enough to have character, yet modern enough to have proper brakes, a/c, etc. I snapped this photo in traffic a few months ago in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - An 800-horsepower Shelby Cobra, once the personal car of the racing veteran who developed the iconic sports car, has sold for $5.5 million at auction, a record for an American car.
The sale of the 1966 Shelby Cobra "Super Snake" brought a packed house to its feet Saturday at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction after a pair of bidders drove the price up.
Carroll Shelby, 84, who created the Cobra in the '60s using Ford engines and a British sport car chassis, said he built the Super Snake — with twin superchargers on a 427 cubic inch V-8 — and drove it for years.
"It's a special car. It would do just over three seconds to 60 (mph), 40 years ago," Shelby told the crowd before the sale.

Fort Lauderdale has one of the few Ferrari Dealers -- Shelton Ferrari. We also have a HUGE second-hand exotic car store -- the Auto Toy Store. Because of this, Ferraris on the street are "almost" common. The F430 is almost too quiet, so I've seen/heard a few with aftermarket stainless steel systems. Very distinctive, in fact all of the V-8s have an incredible sound. The 308qv were very loud - I cannot imagine how they passed the noise test, but they are probably the most "racy" sounding of the group. Very different from the V-12s.

The V8s sound great, all of them, I agree. I prefer the ones that scream, even at low revs. From my memory the F355 is the best at that. The F430 sounds too much like anything else on the road.

I forgot the Berlinetta Boxers, particularly the 365s with the "small" 4.4. liter engines. At times, you thought you had those 12 cylinders in your lap.

They all have 180 degree cranks and sound different. Get any of them over 6,000 and they howl. They also have such a light flywheel, and such low rotating mass that turning them off is also different. Hit the key and they seem to stop instantly, as if arrested.

It would be great to live amongst such a collection... I've never seen anything other than the small V8s, except for a 550 Maranello parked somewhere with bodywork damage ;)

I drove a 599 and it was pretty good, it was when I was looking after the Lubes supply to the Ferrari dealership in Sydney. I said to one of the guys there that I had never driven a Ferrari and he threw me the keys to a a 599 and said take it for a spin.

Ended up driving it for a couple of hours, was very impressed. Now have to sell the house to buy one.

It's the flat-crank that makes them so special. Nothing sounds as good as a flat-crank Ferrari V8, except perhaps for a Formula One Ferrari V8 :D
