A light, non-political thread in the traditional Chit Chat style!

This is for Oldies music trivia:
1950s
1960s
1970s
1980s
Anything newer and you young-uns can start your own thread.

RULES
1) A correct answer gives you the honour of asking the next question.
2) GOOGLEing is not allowed, unless the poser says so. Use your memories or consult your music collection to find answers.
3) Tougher questions might require hints to be provided by the poser.

So I'll start with an easy one:

Q: In the hit 1967 Turtles hit Happy Together, how much money did it cost to make a phone call?

I might be able to answer some of the question on 70's rock, even though I only lived in the 80's for 10 months.

All right. I'll bite, and ask another Q

Jim Morrison & The Doors had a huge hit with 'L.A.Woman'. What is most significant about this phrase, repeated in the song: "Mr. Mojo Risin' "?

Donney
21st January 2010, 21:11
It's an acronym for Jim Morrison?

Mark in Oshawa
21st January 2010, 21:12
I was going to give the same answer but Donney has it I think...

edv
21st January 2010, 21:22
You're both wrong.
It's an anagram of Jim Morrison.
But Donney had the right idea!

Go ahead Donney

Donney

Thanks!

Who were the members of the one show band, The Dirty Mac?

Norwegian Blue
22nd January 2010, 09:24
If I remember rightly.... Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell and Keith Richards(on Bass!) ?

Donney
22nd January 2010, 11:08
Close but no cigar.

Norwegian Blue
22nd January 2010, 21:29
They did two songs... one was just the four of them... and the other they were joined by Yoko and maybe a violinist? C'mon, must be close now! I haven't even gone back to watch the video!

Donney
25th January 2010, 08:48
OK, you're right. Your turn....

Norwegian Blue
25th January 2010, 18:31
Cheers Donney! hmmm... how about...

Who , after starting out as a member, was commonly known as the '6th rolling stone'?

Donney
25th January 2010, 19:02
Damn! I know that one but I can't remember... (and I don't wan to google it)

Norwegian Blue
25th January 2010, 20:45
I could give you the instrument if you want....

driveace
25th January 2010, 20:59

schmenke
26th January 2010, 15:37
Billy Preston?

edv
26th January 2010, 15:56
Brian Jones? ...although I guess he was a bona fide Rolling Stone...

Norwegian Blue
26th January 2010, 17:14
Well I'll just say that Billy Preston was closest so far... and I'm counting Jones fully in the 5!

edv
26th January 2010, 18:14
Starting out as a member?
My memory was this: Jagger, Richards, Jones, Watts and Wyman.
After Jones was found face down in the pool, they eventually went with Ron Wood.
Are you referring to someone who played with them before they were famous?
Might need a clue here...at least for old me.

schmenke

So we are looking for a keyboardist then...?

Firstgear
26th January 2010, 18:59
I believe there was a guy that was kicked out of the band early on, because he was considered too much of a 'pretty-boy' to fit in with the 'Stones image. But I can't remember his name. This guy being on keyboards does ring a bell.

Norwegian Blue
27th January 2010, 11:06
FirstGear is getting close... Originally we had a 6 piece of Jones, Richards, Jagger, Watts, Wyman and ???... And of course Jones was replaced by Mick Taylor, who was replaced by Ronnie Wood.

So we're looking for the ???! He was indeed a Pianist. And although he was technically 'kicked out' by management, he played at most of the shows and operated as tour manager for the first few years.

Donney
27th January 2010, 11:10
And he had the brilliant idea of the headline "Would you let your daughter date a Rolling Stone?"

Norwegian Blue
28th January 2010, 03:31
Correct, Ian Stewart it is! Over to you!
