Hmmm, a mixed event...Looks tricky!

Looks like a very interesting rally and unexpected one. My preevent testing goes out the window because I expected very watery rally so I focused on that but let see how it goes.

Bruce D
5th January 2010, 11:44
Yes I've gone back to the original Portugese Rally type of events, which were mixed surface events. This is this first of them for the season.

Already sent my entry. Gonna be fun.

Haven't decided yet what car to pick for this round...

If anyone is looking for a teammate-I'm available.

Plan to drive for points this round

2 runnings of mount herman, oh dear. The notes for that are ridiculously poor.

Off topic, but pertinent to this thread...

Have any of you guys tried any of the Rallysim hosted championships?

Looks quite involved...

lcd
7th January 2010, 08:13
Just like what happened In Pentti Airikkala Fun Event where Mont Herman tracks were Included, the driver makes the bigger time difference on both runs, Is closer to the win! Prospect Ridge II (thick fog) and Joux Verte II (rain) will have a big effect on the results too! ;)

Just sent my entry In!
I'll be behind the wheels of a Subaru Impreza WRC '09 for this round.

Bruce D
8th January 2010, 12:12
Don't worry guys, I haven't fallen off the planet! I'm just sick at home at the moment so I'll post the entry list on Monday.

Seems like S14 is very popular in this rally, it's a shame they are not so popular in WRC. Nevertheless OMV Subaru Rally Team will run two S12 on this event.

most Important, with no unpleasant surprises!
Now here comes the 'hard stuff':Leg2 + leg3...

I have an issue with SS5 Paddys. RSRBR10 will only select normal mod for this one not gravel mod.

Hmm, mistake by me. Stage 5 is cancelled. (Paddys)

lcd

What? A cancelled special stage? Just like real! :D
( same problem here on RSRBR10 )

Day 1 is finished for me. Nothing really happened on those stages. I had a few moments on the first stage but that was it. On the second and third stage I drove as fast as I deared but I took very easy over the bumps because it can really throw the car off the road. My notes worked very well on those stages but I don't know if I lost any time.

NeverKnow
9th January 2010, 09:28
Day 2 was very bad for me. I had many moments on SS4, I missed a junction and went off at the same place I went off on the memorial rally. Most of the time on SS4 you have at least 100m before the corner but on this one it was K or medium and immediately it turned on the crest. I again went straight on and got stuck for some time between the trees. On SS6 I was afraid to push because it was very slippy and I had snow blindness and unfortunately I hadn't made notes for this one, so I wasn't very confident with the default notes. I went off two times on this stage.
I try to make up some time on day 3 but I don't know if it is possible.

tannat

So i wen to modify the diff maps-and the tables were all messed up.

6places after the decimal for the precentages (i.e. 100.000000) and it wouldn't allow me to change a thing!

I'm guessing none of you guys have this issue?

How can I work around this?

No worries with any other adjustments..

Guys, I've made another goof which has been brought to my attention. On the last stage (the second run through Portugal SS18), please change the weather to CLEAR, not bad.

Day 3 done and it completes the rally for me. On SS7 I managed to avoid mistakes I did on SS4. Though that ment braking too early for some corners unfortunately and that cost me some time.
SS8 is unknown in terms of time lost there. It was very slippy and hard to control the car on it. Lots of sliding but it was fun, you could go powerslide, powerslide, powerslide, powerslide, powerslide...
In conclusion it was very good event. Challenging and varied. I'm not expecting much from the rally, maybe podium if I am very lucky, because I managed to goof it up on the second day. But I will wait for the results and keep my fingers crossed.

Leg 2 complete! Great run In Mont Herman V.3 ( at least far better than In Memorial fun event! )
Couldn't say the same for Prospect RidgeII, where bad visibility and too
much slipping, made me drive as slow as a school bus!!! :D
Finish the rally tonight-posting times tomorrow!

Rally Portugal complete! Just sent In my time card!

Leg 3 was fine; A smooth run of Mont Herman V4 and a frustrating
Joux Verte II, which despite Its high difficulty, I enjoyed very much!
The final run of Portugal SSS wasn't as good as Leg's1 run, but
overall, I hope for something good to come out of this event...

It's good to see how other people drive the stages, the contrast of driving styles. One going completely sideways, the other keeping it tidy. According to my measurements you were 1 second faster on the downhill part, though keep in mind using a stopwatch to measure time is never very accurate.

lcd
12th January 2010, 10:31
Joux Verte II, was a hell of a ride! :D
Love the stages where speed Isn't everything! ;)

Bruce D
12th January 2010, 11:05
NeverKnow, I find your analysis of that section interesting considering I know who "won" that stage between the 2 of you.

So far I've only got your guys results (thats 2 so far) - at least that was a nice dice for the lead. Surprisingly the Mont-Herman stages weren't the deciding factor for a change. Maybe you boys have been practicing!

lcd

... I know who "won" that stage between the 2 of you.

Stop the teasing man..! :D

...Surprisingly the Mont-Herman stages weren't the deciding factor for a change.

Surprised to hear that...

Maybe you boys have been practicing!

Not really...Honestly! It's very long stage for practice afterall...

Bruce D
12th January 2010, 13:38
Funny enough, when I was on holiday and had good intentions to practice lots it was going to be my practice stage, to get used to longer stages. Race On changed my focus... :s

Francis44
12th January 2010, 18:30
Just finished all the stages and I have to say it was a big challenge specially on both Mont-Herman stages. I made some avoidable mistakes and I think there is not much chance for a podium.

Times already sent.

sperger
12th January 2010, 21:45
I've just sent my times in. I'd like to say it was enjoyable but it wasn't as I didn't get a chance to practice so had to drive all of the stages blind. SSS1 was OK, I managed not to hit any barriers and got round in 1 piece. SS2 wasn't too bad but I couldn't get the hang of the surface being so bouncy. SS3 was a bit better and better than I could do in snow due to improved visibility. SS4 :( , SS6 I amazingly managed not to kill the car despite spending most of my time dodging trees. I did kill a few spectators though who obviously hadn't learned from my last trip through there. Leg 3 started OK then went downhill fast. I got into a decent rhythm after the first sandy bit of SS7 but then lost the plot with about 6km to go. I went off a lot and ended up finishing very slowly but in one piece. SS8. I couldn't get the hang of the amount of understeer and went through a fence when I got onto the top road which I tried to reverse out of and got into a right mess. I lost a lot of time because I had to be recovered. I tried to make up the time and went off into some trees and broke the gearbox. My first DNF. I think i hit every barrier in SSS9 so my time was a lot slower and I got a puncture which didn't help the steering much. I was just relieved to finish it. What's a podium?

NeverKnow
12th January 2010, 22:26

Top three finish.

13th January 2010, 06:05
Sperger, I didn't get your email, so check your PM, I've sent you an alternative one. Macd, I haven't got your times yet either. Times from NeverKnow, LCD, and Francis44 so far. Tannat has asked for a time extension, so results will be delayed.

How long is Mt Herman V4?

I've just completed it, and it is nowhere close to the 21.4 km listed on the stage notes (page 1, this thread)..

Sorry for the delay in results, guys. I'm waiting for Macd to send through his times for the last couple of stages (or comfirm that he had a DNF). When I find that out I can produce the results. An interesting event once again.

Bruce D
14th January 2010, 09:40
Ok my mistake, he has DNF'd. I'll be working on the results today and hopefully have them out this afternoon.

Local hero Francis44 blasted his way to a convincing win, therefore opening up a small lead in the championship at the same time.

The rally started with the first run through the spectator stadium stage and it was here where Francis44 grabbed the smallest lead over Macd, just 0.08sec! LCD beat NeverKnow (the first 4 being covered by 5sec), with Sperger and Tannat brining up the rear.

The first leg of 3 stages was on tar, and Francis44 opened up a little over 5sec lead after SS2 from Macd with NeverKnow sneaking up into third. However a strong third stage by NeverKnow saw him take the overnight lead by just 0.08sec from Francis44 with Macd a further 7sec behind, with LCD 15sec back.

SS4 was the first of the monster Mont-Herman stages and Francis44 put the hammer down, beating LCD by 15sec and NeverKnow by 43sec to take back the lead of the rally. Unfortunately Macd took a SuperRally on this stage, dropping him down to 4th overall. Francis44 then pulled off the stage time of the rally by taking more than 36sec from NeverKnow in the heavy fog on SS5 to make the lead over 1min. Must have been local knowledge! Macd crashed out of the rally at this point, costing OMV Subaru their 100% victory record this season in the teams championship, but with BruceD failing to start due to health reasons the teams championship stayed the same.

The second run through Mont-Herman produced no real dramas, although amazingly the top 3 all finished with times within 15sec of each other, which is pretty amazing over a 14min+ stage. LCD took the stage win to close to within 7sec of NeverKnow for 2nd overall. However there were no surprises over the remaining 2 stages, both ending in the order Francis44, NeverKnow, LCD to see Francis44 take his 2nd career win and 2nd for the season.

In the overall and WRC class championships, Francis44 now has a 4pts lead over NeverKnow with LCD and Macd 3rd, 35pts off the lead. It seems to be a 2 horse race for the title right now but anything can still happen. Macd has been more of the speed demon this season and should get a rally right just now.

Next is the all-tarmac round in Corsica. Could tar change the pecking order?

With virgin runs on practically all of these stages I knew I would be slow. First three stages the steering was way to sensitive. Finally came to grips with it later on..

Hope to get some setups put together before Corsica as the tarmac stages hurt me the most....

Good run, all. Cheers, Bruce D

I needed a podium win so badly for this;I'm glad I did It! :)
Though I would be happier with 2nd possition, but I guess there's some
unfinished business between me and NeverKnow! :D Nice tight battles m8!
Francis...welldone buddy! Too bad Macd retired;Tannat,Sperger keep pushing!

I'm not expecting much from next event, as asphalt rallies never been
my fav, but I hope I stay close to top3 championship's overall!

NeverKnow
14th January 2010, 12:54
Good result for me, very lucky to finish second because if I'd done one more mistake I'd probably finished third or worse. LCD was alway near my times and on many stage even faster than me. Though I can now rest at ease knowing that my mistakes on the second day didn't cost me the rally lead because Francis was consistently fast on every stage. Advantage of home rally and local knowledge paid off for him. Congratulations on a job well done!
Will look forward to Corsica and hopefully we'll have a bigger entry list for that one.

Bruce D
14th January 2010, 13:38
Yeah I think due to the New Year break and me not chasing people for entries it was a bit low this time. I hope to do Corsica next time as well so that is one more.

OK, back to topic...I think this round will have some tight battles between
LCD,Macd,Sperger and BruceD!
I also hope to watch a duel between Francis and NeverKnow, unless there will be some huge surprises!
Things are hot, at the bottom too..!
