As a Ferrari supporter, i've been waiting all my life (well since '07 :p :) for Alsonso to go to Ferrari, but now Michaels back I guess i'll have to support both, which could be hard.

It's rare that I'm fully behind any one team, but McLaren, with Button and Hamilton has to be the one to follow for 2010! Lets hope every race is a McLaren 1-2 ;)

It will also be interesting to see how Mercedes gets on.

I don't really support anyone, though naturally I like some drivers more than others. I wouldn't mind seeing Webber having another good season, Bruno Senna too.

Vettel (because he can sing old Finnish Eurovision songs :D ), Schumacher, Kovalainen (due to nationality).

Same here.

I think Hamilton is better than Button but doesn't mean I like one better than the other.

Interesting to see whether Senna is solid F1 material.

Driver I'm really looking forward to more than any (yes, even Michael) is Nico Hulkenberg.

Williams for me, especially interested to see if Hulkenberg can make it in F1. Going to keep an eye on Manor/Virgin too, good driver line up and the CFD designed car is an interesting experiment.

For the title, I'm backing Hamilton. Ferrari v McLaren v Mercedes, and possibly Red Bull.. it'll be great :)

I really wanted Webber to win it in 2009 but all the players that had a chance at the WDC all seemed to crappy days at the same time.

I'd like to see Webber win the 2010 WDC but I'm afraid if that Button guy can come out of retirement and take the WDC then that Schumacher fellow can probably do the same.

Funny thing - I never really liked Schumacher. I was always one to cheer on the underdog. Hence it was Brawn for me last year and Tyrrel, Arrows/Footwork, Leyton House, Minardi for me back in the 80s & 90s.

In 2010 I'm interested to see how Shumacher does after his "retirement" and I may even cheer him on. Then there's the post-injury Massa and "old man" Barichello. As for teams, there's USF1 and Campos.

Mclaren-as always, and their drivers Jenson and especially Hammy
Lotus-The new guys, can't wait to see how they get on
Webber-I want the nice aussie to do well
Rosberg-I want him to do as well as possibl against schumi, though that will be hard
Williams-Always liked them, always will

Now when Kimi is off to rally itīs hard to choose a driver to cheer for, but I will go for his best friend on the grid Seb.

And MS, I will be glad if he succeded.

I don't support teams or drivers myself. I was a Minardi fan when they existed but since they've passed on, supporting Midland or Spyker wasn't the same :s

So, I just want to see some deserved winners. I'll support different people in different scenarios and hope that the best man wins.

Primarily Vettel.

But I'm keen to see Lotus and Virgin do well and I also hope that Schumi will still be competitive. I would also like to see Alonso win races as I have felt he is the best driver of the post-Schumi era and hasn't had a chance to prove that over the past two seasons.

Trulli and Lotus, of course. :) But in the top flight I think I would like to see a new World Champion most. From this point of view Red Bull's and Vettel's win would be excellent in both categories (WCC/WDC). Massa's title would be great too, but I suspect a bit less probable.

Kobayashi & Sauber mainly. I always liked Sauber when the were Sauber but as BMW it just wasn't the same. I do not support Schumacher and a German "national team" in racing makes me uncomfortable, but certainly if Schumacher returns and accomplishes what Niki Lauda has, as an indvidual, as a racing driver, I too will cheer him on.

Why? Because great individual achievement is something that lifts the human being to its heroic best.

And it is this same individual heroism that carried Jenson all these years without cracking him but tempering him well into the driver that won, and under great pressure, the 2009 world championship.

His greatest drive? Not Monte Carlo or any of his other victories this year - but as so many of the people that know him very well have stated, was his drive at Interlagos.

Similarly, Schumacher's greatest championship if he wins the title again, will be his 8th. If he is the driver so many think that he is, we are going to be in for a real treat.

So how is Mclaren different? Its a British team with two British drivers. Sure they don't aim to be a national team, but this is so similar yet you feel uncomfortable? Seems like a strange statement to me...

Perhaps I am from a certain generation, from a particular country that was not too far removed from history.

Mclaren and Britain do not have the history as Mercedes Benz and Germany with "national teams" do.

Its just the way it is and the way my attitudes are.

Fair enough I guess but I'd say one thing;

If you walk with fear, anger will always be at your side (deep huh? :D ;) ). Germany have put their past behind them, perhaps you can too? It shouldn't taint your views on a great sport sport.

Its not fear or anger. I think it is an image that a German national team portrays which hearkens back to the past - just makes me uncomfortable even though I know the team will still be as British really as it was in 2009 other than the majority owners, the drivers and the engine.

Ater all I do enjoy the DTM and have no problems with that :D

Ever watched the movie "Das Boot"? There was a certain human sympathy for the crew, but when at points in the movie the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force attacked it was good!

well thanks for skipping my question in post #59.

Feelin' left out mate? ;)

Saint Devote
10th January 2010, 19:36
Its not the same company it was in 1939 mate, and I wouldn't go as far to suggest Norbert Haug is a national socialist in charge of a team.

Siemens made communication equipment for the German army during the Second World War, and they also manufacture components for Mclaren whilst being a sponsor. They also employed jews before they were sent to extermination camps in their factories in Hamburg and Munich. How does that make you feel?

Its so insignificant in todays market, its not worth the worry mate.. :)

Give me a chance old bean - I did not read this post yet. To wit:

I have nothing against Norbert Haug - I like both him and Ulrich from the DTM!!

I have stated that my attitude is not a statement about Germany but emotions that stem from the "national team" issue. I do not like the idea of national teams generally anyway.

Siemens? - how do Brits feel that it was the United States that employed people from the V2 project to work on the American space program and specifically Werner Von Braun?

Precisely, It doesn't bother me in the slightest. :)

Mercedes are not a national team as far as I am concerned. They own a majority share/controlling stake in a British team and have chosen to base themselves in the United Kingdom. The majority of the design team and workforce are British and its purely for marketing reasons that they appear to flying the flag for Germany.

Mclaren have ultimately developed into a national team and this keeps the sponsors happy. Mclaren couldn't care less about the nationalities of the drivers as long as it brings in the wins and makes alot of money.. :)

I have nothing further to say on this matter.

Problem is I am a Rush Limbaugh conservative so the likelihood of us agreeing on ethics is not possible.

I agree with you.

I do not think the inclusion of countres, anthems and flags all pretending that the drivers and teams that race are representing countries should be.

Most of the drivers do not even live in "their home" countries anyway - Jenson has not actually lived in Britain for TEN years and for the past two years Lewis has lived in Switzerland!

After a grand prix there should be the raising of the manufacturers flags and the rostrum should proceed WITHOUT government ministers or "royalty" - but then of course government money should also be banned from ALL motor racing and so and so forth - Bernie loves taking the taxpayer money and money from the oil producer hoodlum countries and other variety facist countries that hold grands prix.

Ahh well......

This is a very dificult one and I will probably be closer to being a neutral this year than ever..actually I was a neutral in 2009 too, oh wait..I was on the anyone-but-Button side.

I like Fernando Alonso and Rubens Barrichello on the current grid. Ironically I was also a Ferrari fan till Rubens got screwed by them over and over.
Another guy I like -Raikkonen - is no longer in F1.

I guess I will keep a keen eye on the red team as Massa has also gained respect in my eyes over the last 2 years (especially after the cruel way he "lost" the title in Brasil 2008)
