... you know even better than us :D
Dunno, Renault Sport España has suffered some changes in its structure, and all 2009 Clio R3 Challenge drivers have put their Clios in sale... If there is any Challenge again, it will be very, very light...
Anyway, in Spain there are Clio R3 Challenge, Evo Cup (Not really a cup, but gives money to best Mitsus in both gravel and tarmac), Producción Rally Racing (Gr.N Evo X in both tarmac and gravel events), Copa Suzuki Swift, and Fun Cup (VW Golf II in gravel). There are also lots of trophies in regional championships...

Now we have a big fight in Slovenia between two organisers, who wants to organize Dacia Sandero Cup (1.6, cca 100 HP) and Renault Clio Cup (the old one, 1,4 16V with 100 HP). But there is no room (money) for both, so we will see who will succeed. ;)
Renault Twingo, made in our country, is too expensive. Even if is quite the same as R1 ...

What about an eventual 207 rally cup in Spain(in 2009 it was cancelled, but with possibility for 2010)
It's better to wait until 2011... Manufacturers are returning to National Championship, and Peugeot Spain is waiting for looking at how does 2010 champ evolve (Skoda & Ford continuity, Fiat return...) to decide the return of their official entry, that would come with the 207 Cup, cancelled this year due to small number of entries.
It also depends on what happens with 207 Cup in circuits, as there have been lots of problems with cars (France units were used here, and Spanish summer provoked lots of overheating): if they aren't arranged for 2010, or the rise of costs reduces entries, then it will disappear, and Peugeot Spain will put all their efforts in rallying.
I heard about a two car/team effort for 2011, but it's still extremely indefinite ("vague" in French, I can't translate properly :p )

What is the specs of the Clio R3 in the different cups that is run:
Access
Premium
Maxi
What are the differences btw them, and the prices to buy them new ?
br21
11th January 2010, 11:42
Clios r3 are available in access or maxi specs. You can upgrade your maxi to evo spec.
Access costs 32,6k euro for kit and 9,8k for parts from series model to build complete rally car.
Maxi costs 49,6k euro for kit. 7,7k euro for gravel kit. Also some parts from series model needed.
Main differences between access and maxi are: different suspension (not only dampers (bilstein/ohlins) but also different front and rear axles), different brakes (no hydraulic handbreake in access), no "pedal box" in access and of course different engine (200hp in access, 230 in maxi)
Evo is an upgraded maxi with different - carbon airbox, more powerfull engine (250hp/8500revs max comparing to 230hp/7800revs max in maxi). There are also many different upgrades available like different final drive, different driveshafts, waterducts, rear brakes etc.
When buying maxi kit you receive bodyshell, complete front and rear suspension (ohlins dampers, axles etc.), brakes, interior (dashboard with display, seats, belts, fire system), pedal box, ecu, electric loom, engine, gearbox with driveshafts and 4 rims. In gravel kit you've got: suspension parts (i.e. different dampers, springs), brakes, 4 gravel rims, and different sumpguard plus fuel tank cover.
You have to build the car from the kit by your own, as far as I know Renault Sport is not selling complete cars.
You can buy Clio R3 in top spec with all available upgrades for around 90k euro from different teams using them in Europe.
I don't know exact specs of the Clios competing in cups in different countries.

yep. also you have to build your rally car from that kit - it also costs.
clio r3 costs around 50k euro for tarmac kit.
I don't know any comparision between those two cars. surely clio is currently more reliable as it is widely used all over europe. citroen is brand new project. and it's complete new technology and completely new approach to group R rally car - 1,6 turbo engine, gearbox with paddle shift, etc. I should know something more about citroen after wrc in bulgaria.

26th October 2010, 22:30
It's not that easy. You can only measure s/km with same driver on same road. Otherwise the number has no meaning. I can say for example 3 s/km but even if I'm wrong by just 1 s/km, it's so huge difference, that such guessing doesn't make sense.

he could I think ... Guigou didn't push a lot :( I think he was very unhappy to drive this car. When I saw him, in the military camp, he didn't attack, he didn't push hard ...
But the car, like said Fly, was unpowered too, maybe it's why Guigou didn't push...
To compare R1 to R2, maybe furthers rallyes of the FRC are better example ;)

Saw that the Twingo R1 will be well represented in the French Asphalt championship this year.
Have been looking a bit into this class, to see if that could be an option for a new cup up north. But so far the only suspension option I have seen is for asphalt. Has it been made, or will it be made an option also for Gravel for the R1 ? Can gravel parts made for the R2 be taken, and put directly on the R1, do they fit ?
Mirek
22nd February 2011, 18:18
R1B is basically N2. I don't think there are any special gravel/asphalt parts for such almost stock car. But the problem for gravel would definitely be an absence of LSD.
br21
22nd February 2011, 20:03
currently no gravel dampers available for Twingo R1. Kit contains only front tarmac dampers, the rear ones remain stock. also the lack of LSD as Mirek said.

LSD stands for limited-slip differential? If yes, why you say that its absence is the problem for gravel?

Mirek,
LSD stands for limited-slip differential? If yes, why you say that its absence is the problem for gravel?
Cause the inner front wheel will use all the power spinning through bends, and little power, of the little power the R1 has available will drag the car forward.
Co-driven
23rd February 2011, 12:41
Ah, ok then, it's a problem for the R1 cars then, right?
I asked that because here in Brazil probably 95% of the front-wheel drive cars doesn't have LSD. For example, in the National Championship I think it was last allowed in 2007. And there's the Peugeot Trophy too, and we don't use it.
Thanks for your answer.

The R1B is very close to Finnish V1600 class (V = vakio = standard).
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=fi&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=fi&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.v1600.com%2F
The model of the car must be 2000 or newer. FIA homologation (group A or N) is not mandatory but the car should be available in EU. Every car must have a passport (homologation form), which is filled by the competitor. The application for a passport is send to the local ASN.
The min weight for the cars is calculated with the formula 525 kg + 6,8 kg/kW. For a car cylinder capacity of 1500 cc or smaller the formula is 500 kg + 6,8 kg/kW. If the car has a 6-gear gearbox the formula is 550 kg + 6,8 kg/kW. The kW is the power given by the manufacturer.
In rallying this is the min weight without driver and co-driver but in rallysprint and circuit racing it’s includes the driver also.
The main difference is that in group R the dampers must be homologated as in the V1600 they’re free except only dampers with only one adjustment are allowed.
Here is a list of cars that have a passport (situation 2.2.2010)
Alfa 147 (4), BMW 316 (2), Citroen C2 (2), Citroen C4 VTR, Citroen Saxo VTS (2), Citroen Xsara VTR, Fiat Bravo (2), Ford Focus (3), Lada Samara, Mitsubishi Colt, Nissan Micra (2), Peugeot 206 XS (4), Peugeot 106 GTI (2), Renault Clio (5), Renault Megane, Skoda Felicia 1,6, Suzuki Ignis Sport (2), Suzuki Swift Sport (2), VW Golf, VW Lupo GTI, VW Polo (2)
br21
23rd February 2011, 19:52
very nice idea with this V1600. If google translates correctly gearbox have to be standard? So no LSD allowed? What are the safety rules? Of course the rollcage according to appendix J but what about seats, belts, extinguishers? - up to date homologations necessary or could be with expired homologation? tires are free?
OldF
23rd February 2011, 21:33
That’s correct, the gearbox has to be standard and no LSD allowed. If the standard has a LSD, it must be removed or the differential replaced with a differential without a LSD.
The seats and seat belts must be FIA approved. The tires are free. A car that have an expired homologation or a car that even ever had a homologation can be used as long as the model in question is newer than year 2000.
You can find the regulations here V1600 regulations (http://www.autourheilu.fi/attachements/2006-01-19T13-41-5412.pdf) and make a google translation of them. I would have posted them here but there were over 10.000 characters so it wouldn’t fit in one post (I remember that the 10.000 character is the limit for one post).

Well, in same time as terre de Lozère in France, there was also the Citroën trophy Italy running at the Rally Friuli Alpi orientaly, where Andrea Crugnola did a very good result(6th overall, first 2WD)and should take the lead of the cup now ;)
Pitty Rudy Michelini had to retire on penultimate stage while fighting for the lead :(
The other finishers were: Alex Vittalini(8th), Alessandro Re(10th)and Gabriele Cogni(12th).

Look at the stage-times and you will know why it is the cheapest... Less developed and not so fast as DS3 or Clio R3, the 207 was made for trophies, not for being state-of-the-art in R3 class... ;)

I would say the 207 R3T is around same pace as a C2 Max. It's R3, but they kept it cheap, the car is made for the trophy, Peugeot had no other goals with it.

Here in Czech republic we have Opel Adam Cup and Peugeot 208 Cup.
Opel Adam Cup is being run with cup cars, i.e. rather cheap cars with stock 1.6 140Hp engine but sequential gearbox etc. It's also held on shorter events (mainly events from Rallysprint series plus sometimes one leg of selected major events).
Peugeot 208 Cup is run with R2 cars and is therefore more expensive. It's also being held on the events of the national championship which are two days long.
I can't tell You about the costs though.

There were plans for it, it was announced, but basically nobody entered. Instead, most of the 208s are used in the Rally2 championship. The situation is quite strange, as many of the crews who would enter don't have the money to compete in the ORB (that's why they're doing Rally2), but that's exactly where the cup is / would be. So either they bring down the cup to Rally2, or they scrap it next year, I think the latter is more likely unfortunately...

Hi Tom,
As I'm from Catalonia I'm on a good position to give you more info about this one-make series. 'Volant RACC' is an old one-make cup with more than 30 years of history (since 1979) that had always run cars from Peugeot.
This year had been the first one with the 1.2 Puretech Peugeot 208. The overall winner has been Pep Bassas Jr (The son of the former Spanish champion Pep Bassas (R.I.P). As a reward Pep is gonna step up to BK R2 in the spanish national series.
Other great champions of Volant RACC has been, as an example, Mia Bardolet or Dani Solà. http://motorsport.racc.cat/volant-racc/catalunya-palmares.php

Yep, it looks great, but Portuguese and Spanish ventures usually tend to fail (spain’s partners always wants to dominate them…). IMO it’d be more practical to have separate trophys in each country and make an Iberian cup final at the end of the season. We'll see.

Apart from the engine it's all identical yes. Only the engine is pretty much standard with only different mapping. It produces +-155hp (the R2 over 180). It makes it much cheaper to run, the kit price is around 25 000 euros (+ VAT). A standard 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta could be bought for around 13 000 euros (+ VAT) I think.

It makes it much cheaper to run, the kit price is around 25 000 euros (+ VAT). A standard 1.0 ecoboost Fiesta could be bought for around 13 000 euros (+ VAT) I think.

Sulland, I think we discussed that already million times. There is never any such universal value. It's completely different on different stages, in different altitudes etc. The difference will be very small in Finland for example but much bigger on Corsica etc. Somebody may give You some number but what would it be good for You if it's let's say 0,2-0,4s/km? What would it tell You? Is it a lot or is it not? What does it mean a lot? IMHO such number for outsider is meaningless except as a curiosity.

Always fun Mirek.
The difference btw me and you is that you think like an engineer, and I think as someone btw a driver, spectator and a cup manager.
Imo Norway needs a cup again. It should be something like a R1+ or R2-. A car is more than hp.
R2 is about 20 000€, the french one about 40 000, and a full R2 fiesta 60 000.
A R1 with a 1000 ccm turbo engine on 140-150hp could maybe be about 25 000 as a cup car.
Frank Tore Larsen normally Fiesta R5 driver, drove a Fiesta R1 this weekend, and became 19 overall, just ahead of two Fiesta R2s. So driver capability matter.
I am thinking guesstimate/ ballpark figures, and always do. If same driver drove same ss in same conditions on same ss. What would the difference be, aprox pr km SS.
Life is like a box of chocolate.....

On Ouninpohja or on Col de Bleine? Likely the value will be double or tripple on these two stages alone ;)

Is a good car starting a carreer in?

Opel is stopping the production of the Adam Cup car. The cup might continue under ADAC, but not with Opel involvement anymore. So no works seat for the winner anymore next year.

My impressions about the car:
First of all, it was very wet and muddy. Relatively unexperienced driver, had never driven the car in the wet.
Engine: 3 cylinder 1l turbo, almost stock. Weakest point of the car. With the R2 sequential gearbox (great gearbox) the car always falls to low in revs when shifting up. Therefore, you have a lot of turbo lag after shifting (+-2s before the turbo really kicks in). In first gear you even need to clutch kick to really get going, especially at the start. And that on flat Belgian stages, not even in the hills or mointains. I think the car is horrible in the mountains...
Suspension: Pretty good. Basic and not adjustable, but solid. Not much understeer (apart from the real muddy places), slight oversteer at high speed. Maybe on dry roads and closer to the limit, it will be better to judge.
Brakes: good brakes, everything you need.
All in all, decent car, good to get first experience with. But we were competing in the class with R2 cars and home made 1600 group A cars. We weren't really competive against those. There were a few Adam Cup cars too, and I think they have a better engine (judging by how they got off the line). Although I haven't been in the Adam cup car yet, I feel that might be the better choice unless you want to compete in the French cup.
If any other questions, don't hesitate to pm ;)

Mirek

I think turbo engines for this small cars are not suitable for rally.
Why? They are well suitable. They just need at least some modifications due to emissions/fuel consumption optimization of the stock units. The naturally aspirated engines still on the market are much worse for racing use (Mazda or Toyota engines for example).
The point is that turbo engine optimized for emissions and fuel consumption can be tuned to be good for racing. Naturally aspirated engine working in Atkinson's cycle hardly.
By the way the turbine in 1.0 EcoBoost has something like 35 mm in diameter (I have it on the desk). I think that with some ECU modifications this engine shall not have an issue with turbo lag.

Peugeot 208 Iberica Cup will continue next year, with events taking place in Portugal and Spain. The calendar wasn’t revealed but it’s already known it will start in the first round of the Portuguese series (Rali Serras de Fafe) in mid February and may take again the initial legs of Portugal and Catalunya WRC events.

I disagree that these turbo cars are boring to watch. I like the 1.0T more than the older generation Fiesta R2 with 1.6N/A. I've always liked watching the Fiesta R2T's in JWRC, or in Belgium, or even in France with their junior trophy (where they're less powerful). I think the new generation Fiesta R2 is going to surprise us in a positive way... :)

Registration fee is 750 EUR. The winner will win a supported entry for the ORB's "big" Peugeot cup for 2026, with 2 rallies paid by the importer and the ASN.
