2010 Indy 500 Pace Car

The 2010 Indy 500 Pace Car was revealed today. It is a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. This year's pace car is equipped with a stock 400 hp 6.2L V-8, an RS appearance package and leather interior with Inferno Orange interior accents.

Maybe 3 to 5 miles from where I am. I love the fact they are using a Camero, but I would have to think Honda must be wondering why they don't get to provide the pace car?

Maybe this is IMS's way of having multiple engines on the track?

Once upon a time, when I thought of performance cars, at least one or two Hondas came to mind. I'm sure they must make something that has some gitty up & go, but nothing comes to mind right now.

I haven't sat in one yet, but I think the new Camaro is pretty darn sharp. It makes for a nice Pace Car.

They could have gone with an S2000 (is that made anymore?). Or the upscale Acura brand, such as a ZDX.

Yep, pretty much as expected. They had a Zanardi Edition of the NSX to up their performance image years ago. They also featured Ayrton Senna in ads. Maybe they'll put Danica in an ad with that 197 hp monster. :rolleyes:

Needless to say, the Camaro was the better choice.

No, they killed the S2000. Some of the Acuras have some pep. But Honda/Acura seems to focus more on safety, techy gizmos and fuel economy in their ads now.

god thats an ugly car, the only good remake of an old school car is the challenger, Dodge did a great job with that. but Chevy's look so bad, no wonder no one bought there cars and had to get a huge bailout.

why couldn't they just keep the tradition of running a Corvette, at least that car still has some style left

Do you like ANYTHING any more? lol...I am teasing you. It is all in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes I dont like the Camaro, sometimes I do. I do like The Challenger tho....

actually, the side view, the camaro and challenger look similar (very nice and flowing lines), but that front end is hideous (I'm not a fan of the square-box look)

I say they should have a Merc-Benz CLK63 AMG Black as a pace car, now there is a car you can be in shock and awe when it rumbles by :D

MB isn't ready to put their car in front of IRL fans I guess. GM paid for this privledge.

I am not a fan of some lines on this car, but overall, it looks alright. I would rather have a 69 SS tho.....

Of the new pony cars with the retro muscle car styling, I think I like the Challenger the best. And if the rumors that FIAT really does have an interest in supplying the IRL with an engine are true, seems like the IRL would try to suck up to FIAT's Chrysler group. GM's not going to get involved with the IRL anytime soon. And with Chrysler being in the worst shape of the Big 3, they'd probably appreciate the marketing bump.

Nice looking car, true(r) to its roots, IMO.
