Lately, I have heard a lot more about downloading movies and TV shows from the internet. I just checked my DVD player and found it had a USB port, which means that I can actually download a movie, transfer it to a small USB flash drive, plug that into my player, and Voila!! I have a TV show or movie.

My only fear are viruses: I was going to download some music and when I accessed Torrents, immediately 4 viruses tried to invade my PC.

So, what are the thoughts of other forum members?

Use NetFlix or something comparable.

Love it! I can also link it to my Xbox 360.

Downloading has some setbacks: 1) illegal, 2) viruses, 3) poor quality.

Last time I tried Netflix, the message I get is that it is not available in Oz. :(

@Valve...have a good anti-virus software...(original),don't keep the one from the torrents :D , keep updating it.....and happy downloading

even if there are some viruses in the torrents, chances are with the updated definitions...they'll be blocked and you can download the songs, videos, porn :cheese: etc etc etc

I do have AVG (free) but I havn't upgraded to AVG9. What do you think? should I upgrade?

My PC automatically updates the AV definitions at 2am each morning.

Your DVD-player may have an USB-port but the problem is the codecs people use in the movies evolve all the time and after a while, it's quite probable that your player doesn't have them.

I actually have a wireless N-network with a wireless HD media player which means that if I download something (which I don't, of course :) ) I just share the folder and the media player (which is in another room) streams the content into my telly. Handy right?

I think one of the reasons people download films etc. is that you can't get them anywhere else. I'm a big fan of movies from 70's and it's pretty difficult to buy a particular movie, it's much much easier to "steal" it.

the free version just detects the viruses...doesn't clean them...you should upgrade to an antivirus provider and have a decent anti spyware tool too....

I'd suggest investing some dough....In India,Antivirus softwares come pretty cheap...i mean a licence of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 for three computers came to around 800 rupees...1 USD = 50 Rupees....

so if the prices are the same where you stay,I don't see why you shouldn't have an original anti virus software

No such luck. AV's are not cheap here; but I do have 3 anti-spyware programs.

I think one anti-spyware program should be enough.....tbh,provided the updates are on time..

I download a fair bit of tv from the internet and I'll be very peeved if the planned ISP slow down happens as I buy everything I download on DVD when it comes out - I'm just too impatient to wait!

THanks. I have just converted to AVG9, and will install security essentials after lunch as I am going to the gym now.

Well you don't need both. Personally I think AVG is crap. The fact that when they release a new version that you need to uninstall the old one is a bit rubbish.
