Etc.
The IndyCar Series will open the 2010 season on a street circuit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, if final documents are approved, a series official said Thursday. . . . Newman Wachs Racing, which competes in Atlantics, confirmed its goal of moving driver John Edwards to IndyCar in 2010, although it has not secured sponsorship to do so. . . . Alex Tagliani's new IndyCar team, known as the Fazzt Race Team, has announced it will be a full-time participant next season with the possibility of fielding a second car in the Indianapolis 500 and the two Canadian races (Toronto and Edmonton). . . . Philip Morris USA, which backs Team Penske, will not continue its Marlboro ticket-buying program at IndyCar races in 2010, a blow to tracks that host events. .

Good to hear Tagliani's team will be fulltime. Wonder how much the Marlboro thing will affect race attendance? Or will it be more of an effect on sales, than attendance?

A lot of corporate tickets are not actually used day of the event. So they sell big corporate blocks but lets say only 50% of those folks actually show up to the event. I think sales will definitely be hurt, attendance not as much. And track packs we will see, I've heard a number of compelling arguments for why this will be a benefit for IRL attendance (though again, not necessarily ticket sales $$$).
