RBR Motorsport Forums Cup 2009
Round 6-End Of Season: Rally Finland
9,10,11 October 2009
Rally I.D.
The final rally of the season takes place on wintry gravel roads
In the forests of the Autiovaara region. Temperatures can drop
below -20 degrees Celsius when the rally is on, but the special
challenge of the frozen roads means the event is one of the
most popular among drivers. To succeed in Finland, you need
a sublime combination of commitment,
fingertip feel and lightning reactions.

World Rally Team Estonia driver Neverknow will drive the final rally in the Richard Burns Rally Cup in a Subaru Impreza WRC '02. The reason behind this is that Focus he drove in the last two events is in the rebuild. "I am little disappointed that I can't drive Focus here. After the previous event the engineers found out that there was signs of stress on rollbars and major components of the car. So they decided to sent the car to rebuilding and unfortunately this taking a little longer than usually," he said.
The estonian will tackle the snow rally in a older Impreza. Despite this he hasn't lost his hope for the victory. "We had oportunity to choose between a number of cars but I chose the Impreza because I have driven this car on 3 rallies already. I know what the car is capable of and when to push. On this event everyhting is possible and it is really easy to make a retiring mistake. So why not go for the win," estonian said.
Last rally of RBR Cup Rally Finland is held 9 - 11 October on the icy and snowy roads of Finland.

I'll be there in the Baker Motorsport Citroen. Looking to consolidate my position in the Championship. Being fairly foreign to driving on snow will be spending a heap of time in the fridge next week to acclimatise myself :)

I'll be there for the rally! I will be away from tuesday until sunday, so hopefully I will be able to do the rally before I go/when I get back home! Will the timetable be out on monday LCD?

Having being living in Norway for the past 13 years, I am hoping to go fast on this event. I am planning to test both the 05 Impreza WRC and the 06 Focus WRC before the rally, to see which suits me better in the snow conditions.

No mods are necessary to participate in this RBR cup. Just Richard Burns Rally is required. To enter, send you entry to LCD via PM(the format is explained in the first post). That's about it. When rally proper time comes, you do the stages offline and then send your times to LCD(be sure to read the rules in the first post).

It is generally recommended to have a low car with soft suspension. But this is hard part in RBR. Real drivers have the advantage of actually feeling what the suspension is doing but we have to quess.
I am actually using harder springs and damper settings than the default setup with lower anti-rollbars settings. It all depends on driving style and what you expect from the car, how it should handle. If you are new to RBR, I suggest try using the default setups for some time, until you can predict what the car is doing in different conditions. But if you have some experience with RBR, start adjusting the cars suspension settings to fit the parameters you think is right. You should also have a fair understanding what each component is doing to the car before you adjust it (read the manual or this (http://www.bhmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=21724)) because it is easy to make undrivable.

Seems you had some fun In the snow there Bruce... :D

Bruce D
9th October 2009, 12:18
Well I need to tell the story then I guess - can't let LCD have all the fun here. (He's seen the times already).

SS1 - I had an off here in testing before the event on a fast right - that time I drifted wide and went off-roading for a bit. This time a thought I'd brake a bit earlier, which worked well, except that in testing I'd drifted around a tree, this time I slide into the tree! (Trees 1 - BruceD 0)

SS2 - This is where I started to realise that testing in the standard game and then installing RSRBR09 and playing the rally means your testing is useless. Firstly the car is higher in this version and thus tends to roll more often (2 rolls on this stage) and secondly the banks are less forgiving cos the bank patch has been applied here. Oh well...

SS3 - One stupid spectator, standing on the outside of a fast left, right on the edge of the track. Yes, I hit him...

SS4 - This is the one that nearly made me cry. The stage was going perfectly until 300 metres from the finish where the nose of the car hooked a bank on the inside of a 3rd gear corner and spat me into the trees. Fortunately I kept the clutch in quickly enough when I bounced off the tree. Unfortunately, even though I was now stuck in 3rd gear but still had the engine running, I couldn't get the car out of the ditch it was in, even after a minute of trying, the engine overheating and desperate use of the clutch. Eventually I couldn't move anymore and then stalled it. (Trees 2 - BruceD 0)

SS5 - I think I set my personal record here of rolling 4 times in one stage. Only one of the them required help, 2 of them came cos of bad pacenote instructions. The one was a easy left over crest, which somehow became a medium left when I got there.

SS6 - Finally decided to fiddle with the settings and came up with a decent setup and did a good stage.

Sprint - Same stage again, was going well then suddenly lost the back end through a corner and had a spin. Was still only 3sec slower than my SS6 time so it could have been a really good time, cos I think I lost about 10sec in the spin. And I still beat Burnsie to the finish.

So when I said I had a shocking rally....

PS. I went and then played GP4 for a while, only to crash out of that race. I switched the PC off at that point.

Ok thanks mate going to do them later today!!!!

Here's a short summary of this rally for me:
SS1 - started slow and struggled for grip. Had no major events.

SS2 - made small damper changes and immediately started to have better feeling with car. Though the time was still little off.

SS3 - I tried to drive as fast as I could but I still think it was a slow time. Only major event was that the gearbox went to neautral after K left.

SS4 - I had atleast 3 misshifts where it changed down two gears instead of one and I had really scary moments then. The time was seriously slower than the shakedown. I still can't figure out where I lost those seconds on the third split. 1st and 2nd split where OK'sh but 3rd was a disaster.

SS5 - I had near accident when I entered a corner too fast and nearly got caught in the snow banks.

SS6 - started sloppy on this one and had a off. On a fast left I hit the inside corner and the car was sent off. Luckily it landed forward direction and could get easily back on the road without hitting anything. I was very lucky there, I could really have written the car off.

SSS - had better feeling than the previous one but I was still looking for great rythm.

Overall I am happy (as always) that I finished the rallybecause I was sometimes very close of going off(and once did). I really hoped for better times bit I guess it wasn't ment to be. I wasn't quite happy with feeling of the car. Will wait for fellow competitors times...

Just finished the day....

Went better than expected since i have almost no experience on snow. On SS1 i spinned 2 times and in one of them the car shutted down.

SS2 went pretty well.....No crashes just a clean drive and the car was feeling good.

SS3 was quite bad because i was going fast and eventually hited a tree and i had only 2 gears

Overall not a bad day!!!!

Who could Imagine the final round of this season, to be my 1st retirement?
Rally Finland Is over for me as I had 2 lethal crashes (gearbox damage)
In day1 (ss1 + ss3) and according to rules, one super rally per day allowed,
so retirement was the only way for me...But there's some more!
I retired from Rallysprint too, as after an off, my wheels got so damaged,
I couldn't keep It straight and make It to the finish...

Don't know about everyone but I agree that difs define the character of the car(more lock more stable, less lock less stable car). As it affects mechanical traction directly (so does suspension but not so much).

Yeah your diff setting will make a difference, but its also a personal thing, so its quite up to the driver as to what happens. On S2000 cars you can't change the diff settings though, so you have to find another way. :)

I thought I was going roll forward and land on the roof but suddenly the car was back on all four wheels with no damage, only cosmetical damage. I was very very very lucky there.

Looks like I'm DNF for both as my computer has crapped itself and I'm on the work laptop at the moment.

Bummer for me but that's life. Bring on 2010.

Final results will be made public when all the times are in and LCD has the time to do the maths and the results pictures. That would probably be tomorrow as the deadline is midnight today.

Results will be published, first thing tomorrow morning!

Seems this final round has almost everything:
new surprise entries! DNFs! retirements! super rallies!
This time some special stuff will come along with results
as It Is the end of the season..! ;)

Gretaly appreciate everyone's patience, and thanks for the extension, LCD..

As it seems everyone else has had a fair to not so great rally I drove for points. Aside from Kaihuavaara it was my first time on all of these stages.

Car got bashed about a bit but was able to complete the rally. Car drove fine, but felt I received many a spin into the drifts that was undeserved....

Cheers to all,

Tannat

Now about the rally:

What can I say? I am not surprised of the rally result as it was what I expected. I was consistently slow and 4th isn't that bad. But winning the Cup makes things much better. But I fear defending it next year will prove very difficult. There are many fast drivers in the Cup, so next year will be interesting.
I told you Bruce that you will win the sprint championship and congratulations to you for that.
Also I would like to thank everyone who participated in this Motorsportsforum Cup and hope that you all will continue to participate next year. And big thanks goes to LCD who organised the rallies and made great graphics for this Cup.

Hehe, FINALLY!!!!! :champion:

Thanks to everyone for rallying here, its been a great season. Season 2 will start in November. However, we got 3 rallies to do before then, so get really for some crammed action here. I'm just finalising one or two things and then I'll make an announcement on Monday about the first event.

BTW, you really do need RSRBR09 mod now for the fun events and for future events in the RBR MF Cup. Sorry, but its the only way to give this Cup some long-term life.

Guys, is Blackhole a 'safe' place to download RSRBR09?

Not wanting to invite viruses into a laptop I don't own :D

BHmotorsports.com is safe. I have never heard that anyone have had problems with it.

You could make another RBR installation to a different directory than the original installation. This should allow to use both mods because the mods don't interfere with each other.

Nice work Bruce!!

Hehe, lets just say I'm up to something, yes... ;)

This forum will still be central to all the action though, and I will be posting stuff here. I have a problem uploading to certain places at work which I don't have problems with at home (strange, I know), however I hardly have time at home!

At the moment things won't change, but I'm not the picture wizard LCD is so I'll try hard.

Get your boots on though, cos its going to be a hectic couple of weeks coming up. 4 Rallies in 4 weekends! Obviously 3 Fun Events (as mentioned before) and then Round 1 of Season 2.

As for the Fun Events, please try to do them. They will be really interesting. To give a bit of background, the first one (Hillclimb) is pretty straight forward, however you will be forced to use certain cars on certain stages. The Mickey Mouse should throw up some interesting results cos its all superspecials and tough short stages. As for the Pennti event, I've got some long stages and stuff lined up for that (as they were in his day) with some car restrictions involved. As he was a highly respected member of this very forum I'd like to make it worthy of the great man.

BTW I'll also be making people submit times via this new HTML recording system in RSCenter. I won't kill anyone for not using it yet on the fun events, but please try as it lets me post split times as well, which should make some interesting readings. More info when I announce the events.

Could someone advise me on RSRBR installation. I downloaded the mod,now there are numerous updates for it. Update 4, 6 , 9, 10 + 2 stage addons. Are all those updates required to participate on next weekends fun event?

Bruce D
16th October 2009, 12:05
Yeah, thats it. To do most of the stages you select the "play alone" tab and choose RSRBR2009 button. The RBR button below that gives you the normal game but with your cars - warning though, it doesn't record the times in the window and therefore won't record them in the HTML file so you need to use the RSRBR2009 button rather.

To be play the BTB stages, you select the "online session" tab (I think its called that, otherwise its play online") - even if you're offline it still works - and then select the big fat "GO" button to play the stage.
