Mmmmmm 500 Abarth R3T rally car :D

I'm biased as a 500 owner myself but isn't that one of the best rally cars you've seen for a long time? I love the fact that it's got round spotlights and not those crappy rectangular spotlights most cars seem to have.

I've seen some 500 Abarth (the normal version of course) around here, funny thing is that it costs even more than Punto Abarth (!) and it's really ... SMALL !
I would be in fear inside that little box at almost 200kph ...

Quite big inside for such a small car though :) one thing that's also surprising is how much of the door is metal rather than glass so it should be quite strong in side impacts. Very strong shell too

One thing that annoys me about is is the minimum weight of 1080kg's which is a legacy from the days where the FIA hobbled the F2 cars with 120kg's extra weight so there was no chance of them beating WRCars :( 1080 is simply too heavy for these sorts of cars.

I can't stop thinking about how bad the 207 R3T is....

As it’s been said earlier on this forum that cars cannot be made as light as wanted because that requires use of light and expensive materials. Also cars are heavier nowadays because safety reasons. Maybe the Fiat 500 could have been made lighter because it’s a small car.

True enough :)
The standard car weighs around 1035kg's IIRC.
Thing is though the car I have which is the 1.2 only weighs 865 and they got the weigh down on the 1.4 Abarth to 900kg's for the 500 Assetto Corse (200bhp) here -> http://www.italiaspeed.com/2009/motor_shows/autosport_international/sabelt/gallery/gallery.html
and other than the decorative bits of carbon fibre for the door panels, bonet vents and part of the lower dash it looks very much like the standard car. So they basically managed to strip 135kg's from the standard car with hardly any help from fancy materials.

The weight has increased but the power has decreased by 20 hp, probably due to the 28 mm restrictor.

Yep, the Assetto Corse is a 1 make series car so they can do whatever they want to and don't need to run restrictors :)

By gpweek (http://mag.gpweek.com/) (page 16) Citroen is going to homologate the DS3 in the R3T class.
