Practice and qualifying for the 59th International Gold Cup Road Races were held in dry but overcast conditions.
Only one incident was reported, Chris Palmer came off his 125 when it seized. He sustained a broken arm.

Racing got underway at 13.00 with the first of two four-lap heats for the Darran Lindsay Trophy, won by Guy Martin from Ian Hutchinson and Kiaran Hankin,
The second heat was won by Ryan Farquhar with Michael Pearson second and Ian Lougher third.

Race three saw the National 400’s and MiniTwins in action in their 1st leg race.
Daniel Frear had pole position, but it was Ryan Farquhar who got the hole-shot.
At the end of the opening lap of eight it was Farquhar from Frear and David Bell, with just over half a second covering the three riders. A lap later it was Frear who headed the pack from Farquhar and Bell.
The lap records for both the 400’s and MiniTwins fell on the third lap to Dan Frear and Ryan Farquhar.
Half distance and positions remained the same, whilst a lap later both record were again bettered, with Frear again lowering the time again on the sixth circuit.
Places remained intact at the end of the penultimate lap and less than two minutes later, Daniel Frear took the chequered flag from Ryan Farquhar, who took the MiniTwins victory with David Bell third, Mick Goodings fourth, Ivan Lintin fifth and Mike Minns sixth.

Race Four was the first leg of the 125’s over six laps. Ian Lougher got the hole-shot, closely followed by Peter Wakefield, but within half-a-lap the red flag were out bringing the action to a halt.
The restart saw a five lap race won by Ian Lougher over William Dunlop and Lee Vernon, the winning advantage 1.720 seconds.

Race five was the 1st leg of the Darran Lindsay Trophy for Superbikes over eight laps.
Hutchy, Farquhar, Martin and Pearson were on the front row and Hutchy held the hole-shot into Mere Hairpin and was still in front at the end of the first lap, with Farquhar, Martin and Pearson in hot pursuit.
A lap later in was Farquhar who headed the pack from Hutchinson, Martin and Pearson. Hankin and William Dunlop completed the top six.
Positions were the same on lap three, Lap four saw Pearson tour in to retire, letting Hankin into fourth, as Martin bettered his lap record, to 83.071mph
Lap five and it was still Ryan, Ian and Guy in the first three places.
Lap six, and Farquhar’s lead was up to half a second.
By the end of lap seven the lead was down to 0.382 of a second.
At the all important chequered flag Ryan took win, followed by Kiaran Hankin and William Dunlop.
Hutchinson and Martin came together at Mountside Hairpin and were off – both OK.
Lougher, Archibald and Hutchinson having remounted completed the top six.

Next up were the F2 Sidecars for their six lap opening leg. Conrad Harrison and Lee Patterson got the hole-shot and stayed in front until the chequered flag, Tony Elmer and Darren Marshal were second throughout with Tim Reeves and Dip Chauhan maintaining third for the full race distance.

Races seven and eight were the heats for the 600cc David Jefferies Cup, both four lap affairs.
The first heat was won by Daniel Frear, with Ian Hutchinson second, Guy Martin third, John McGuinness fourth, Ivan Lintin fifth and Stephen Oates sixth.
The second heat saw Michael Pearson head home Ian Lougher by 0.327 of a second, with Kiaran Hankin third. Archibald, Dave Hewson and Richard Gibson completed the leader board,

The penultimate race of the day was the 250cc Phil Mellor Trophy over eight laps.
Lee Vernon got the hole-shot, but it was Ian Lougher who had a two and a half second advantage at the end of the first lap, with John McGuinness second and Vernon down to third.
Lap two and William Dunlop had made it up to second 3.955 seconds behind Lougher, with McGuinness now third.
William had pulled back half a second on Ian at the conclusion of the third lap, as places remained the same.
Half distance and the gap had increased again in Lougher’s favour 3.530 seconds.
Lap five and William pulled by 4/10ths of a second on Ian with John McGuinness having a lonely ride in third near six seconds in arrears.
Three-quarters distance and the dap had increased in Lougher’s favour again. Lap seven and William had reeled in the leader to narrow the gap to 2.5 seconds.
Ian Lougher took his 125th race victory, just 1.4 seconds ahead of William Dunlop with John McGuinness third 16 seconds down.
Lee Vernon, Alex Hutchinson and Davy Morgan made up the top six.

The final race of the day the first leg of the 600cc David Jefferies Cup was run over eight laps.
Michael Pearson was in pole, but it was Ian Lougher who was first into Mere Hairpin closely followed by Daniel Frear and pole sitter Michael Pearson.
At the end of the first lap it was Pearson by 3/10ths of a second from Frear and Lougher a further 2/10ths back. Then it was Hutchy, Martin and McGuinness.
Guy Martin moved into fourth on lap two, with the three leaders all lapping at over 80mph.
Lap three and Pearson lead by 0.884 of a second from Lougher, with Martin now third.
Mid distance and the Red Flag was shown due to an incident at Memorial.
The race will be rescheduled into Sunday’s race programme, due to the work being required to be done on the course after the incident.
