You are underestimating Robby's ability to break early. ;-)

Per Jayski:
McDowell in the #36; Carpentier out: Michael McDowell will drive the #36 Wave Energy Drink Toyota of Tommy Baldwin Racing beginning this weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Patrick Carpenitier is no longer driving the #36 because of a business conflict in Canada. McDowell has been driving full-time in NASCAR Nationwide Series Toyota during the 2009 season and captured five top-10 finishes.(TBR PR), Carpentier was scheduled to run the #36 at Richmond, New Hampshire, Dover, Kansas and California. Mike Skinner was scheduled to run in the final six races. No word if Skinner or McDowell will run those races

I enjoyed it....best part was Shrubbie missing the Chase by points, and having ESPN grill him FIRST after the race. Kyle to his credit gave a great interview when it is obvious he likely didn't want to be there, and I wouldn't blame him BUT Joe Gibbs was hovering nearby, instead of being in Victory Lane, which says to me much of Kyle's new kindler gentler persona is Joe Gibb's mentoring this man.
Kyle has talent; so when he gets the emotional maturity and the self awareness to grow up, he will be a champion, but based on his actions most of the year, missing the chase in this manner will help him as a person, even if he cannot grasp that right now...
Kudo's to Brian Vickers, for ignoring the naysayers and putting in the drive his career. What he did last night and what his crew did in Atlanta was impressive....

Goody, so we see about 50 minutes of the race and 4 hours of ABC commercials

Jayski has been tracking it for years, all four broadcasters it's 20 minutes an hour.

That's a nice way of putting it when a check doesn't clear.
Several years ago, when Champ Car had an overseas race and one of the pay drivers couldn't come up with his ride buyer money, it was told that he had a "visa problem". I had guessed that he was using his American Express to pay for his seat... but I guess it was a Visa. :D
Too bad for Carpentier - I always liked him.

.
I can't see him changing in the next 10 races.
The spoilt brat that he is he'll go for race wins and probably wreck a few Chasers to get to victory lane.

I really enjoyed the race especially the battle between Vickers and Busch for the last spot in the Chase.
I was also impressed with Kyle's interview after the race. It was nice of him to finally thank is sponsors and his crew, something that he rarely does.

I would venture to guess that Kyle bought himself an intervention after the guitar smashing incident. I'd also guess that his sponsors, his PR person, Joe Gibbs or all the above decided it was time to take the young man aside to teach him the facts of life regarding NASCAR racing.
There's no doubt that he's a very talented racer but his behavior left a lot to be desired. His antics surely reflected badly on those who support and fund his efforts. After the race last night my husband commented that Kyle never learned how to be a gracious loser. He also told me that if Joe Gibbs can't help Kyle become the man he needs to be nobody can. I think the other half is spot on.
I'm thrilled to see Mark Martin leading in the points race. In my opinion Mark Martin is the best racer to never win a championship. I'd celebrate like a maniac if he could finally grab himself the big trophy in '09.

Brian Vicker's team was great at Richmond, but they really made his season last week, by changing a rear axle in the pitbox without going a lap down. THAT put him in the chase!
It worked out OK for Robby Gordon missing this race... He won the Primm off-road race, giving him 2 wins & a 2nd in 4 SCORE events this year, and a nice points lead in the championship. He only dropped 1 spot in the Nascar Cup standings.
