View Full Version : Trulli going?

Would Toyota really let their best driver go?

Toyota team president John Howett says the Japanese squad is unlikely to renew Jarno Trulli's contract after not reaching an agreement following initial talks.

Well Kubica and Kimi are probably going to be available next year.

yes i believe they will.
I would imagine kub is on their shopping list although I believe that Sutil is very underrated

Just get rid of Glock then. He has been soundly beaten by Trulli.

I think even merely 10 years ago a driver with Trulli's talent and age would have most probably found a new drive in F1. Even in 2002 a solid #2 in Panis at the age of 36 managed to sign a new 2-year contract with Toyota.

But nowadays there are so many young and talented drivers around that it's gonna be difficult. The odd thing here is that Barrichello's career may actually last longer than Trulli's. :uhoh:

Why? Frankly, he's driving as good as Glock, maybe even better.. They should better improve the car than replace Trulli.

I don't have anything against Trulli but I would like to see a new driver line-up at Toyota. Trulli is in the twilight, he isn't getting any faster.
I just hope Toyota act fast and sign somebody before it's too late.

Jarno is saying it isn't about money .

It is likely , therefore , to be about length of contract , or performance requirements .

By the way, maybe there is something else behind Trulli's departure? ;)

His quote:
"Honda has pulled out, BMW has pulled out, and probably they will not be the only one."

And now Williams is suddenly trying to find new engines instead of Toyota.

Coincidence? :p :

That Williams are not going to run Toyota's has more to do with Hulkenberg being moved up to the f1 team.

Trying to negotiate to keep Rosberg and signing Hulkenberg - an excellent team - will only be possible once the albatross of Toyota-Nakajima is gotten rid of.

The new US F1 team has a love affair with the geriatric drivers of f1 so maybe Trulli could end up there.

Peter Windsor was a real bitch today when he asked Grosjean to react to his 14th place being the average position that Piquet used to get.

But then Windsor is also sentimental for Bourdais and Piquet.

Going to be interesting to see who there drivers will be. I still cannot find any American driver that justifies a move up to the top level of racing.

I was thinking the same. When more info leaks out, we'll have a better idea of just what is the reason for Toyota considering dropping Trulli.

Though, if Toyota do carry on into 2010 and Trulli is out of the team, I wonder what position that leaves him in. I can't imagine him going back to Renault (if Alonso opens the door), and the only other team of the current crop that he may have a chance with is Force India. Maybe replacing Fisi? And if he goes down the Force India road, I'd have to believe that his career will have surely hit the rocks. That's just hypothetical though. Let's see what develops in the next while. If there was a mishap between Howett and Trulli, I don't expect Howett to show much tolerance if he still has the neck like he had when he sacked Gascoyne.

The question of course is HOW Toyota justify their racing expense these days - after all they would not want to publish their results.

And ifthe did not get it right this season when Ferrari and Mclaren had a problem season, I doubt they will ever be contenders.

Why would a driver like Kubica even want to drive for such a dreadful team.

The best solution would be to retain the name but in reality give the whole task over to Dave Richards - Prodrive.

You're right, he should probably sign up with Manor!

Kimi will not drive for Toyota, a team which according to my knowledge hasn't recruited any new technical staff, not big names anyway, so we can expect another up and down season for them. Same people, same results.

I was going to post something similar and decided against it. But this does highlight:

(i) How many drivers Toyota go through. Not quite to the extent that Peter Sauber used to, but still a considerable amount.

(ii) Trulli's history with the team. Even though he hasn't won, he has given the team a few podium finishes. If anything, Trulli should leave Toyota on his own accord. He deserves better. If they kick him out, it's their loss. Drivers is not what they're lacking...it's management!!

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, then Toyota has significantly reduced its F1 budget for this year, which are rumoured to be below 200M $ and could be even less in 2010 if they continue (around or below 100M $?!).

A pure guess and speculation, but maybe that's why Toyota has sucked at in-season development this year - haven't got used to working with lack of funds? :p :

Trulli's given the Toyota team it's best days so far. I wonder if he would consider a berth with the 'BMW' team if they are entered for next year.

If Toyota are staying in F1 they would be foolish to get rid of Jarno. Could Jarno be off to Williams I wonder?

I think Trulli and Glock are a very solid line-up and I don't see Jarno retiring any time soon. I think he has driven better over the last two years than at any other time in his career.

Indeed.
And imagine not only eliminating the incompetence from Tokyo, but adding Kubica to Dave Richards. Definitely a winning combination.

They definitely prove the law of diminishing returns.
