So BMW gone.

Toyota/renault going? (although Toyota deny it) http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77407

And some of the newbies still wanting a slot on next years grid http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77404

So what on earth is next years grid going to look like? Care to venture a guess? Educated or otherwise :p : ;)

The BMW team will most likely pull a Honda and be on the grid under a new name (or an old name...Sauber?), and I'd expect the same for Renault and Toyota if they were to pull out.

I think next year its most likely to be a Sauber-BMW, the engine isn't the problem with the car currently, and under engine freeze regulations there isn't much money to spend on them, bar building them.

What's Peter Sauber doing these days, is he still involved with the team, In any sort of figurehead role if not involved in the day to day stuff? After all the official entrant name still carries his name in part.

And was it a case of him wanting out in 2005 Eddie Jordan-style, or was it a case of BMW making him an offer he couldn't refuse that made him reluctantly step aside? If the latter then the Sauber name could indeed return. It has happened before in the past, Footwork bought Arrows in 1991 but officially reverted to its former name in 1997 (having been Arrows again in all but name from 1994 anyway).

Peter Sauber has been to several races this year. Beyond that I have no idea if he still owns some shares etc. Time will tell I guess.

Update. PS owns 20% of Sauber but he does not sound hopeful....

In 2010 we will already see four teams with white cars. Besides BrawnGP also MarioGP, HowettGP and FlavioGP - all are white, because they have failed to find sponsors and try to participate based on "old funds". :p :

If I were Peter Sauber I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on BMW's 2010 car being worth running. Brawn knew Honda had made a great car, BMW don't seem capable as they've been sliding backwards all year.

I reckon the team's going to be wound down, and we'll have a new entrant in 2011, probably too late now.
