Here's noise.... :)

Just back from vacation.

You know-that one month break is a mistake-rest of the season is a bit of an anticlimax.....

I'm still here. My internet has been very unreliable over the past few days so I haven't been logged onto the forums. My brother is gone off for a few days, and I need his PC knowledge in order to switch back over from Linux to Windows. Hopefully he'll be back before the deadline. As well as that, hopefully I can sort out those problems I had with the Finnish stages in Russia and actually get a result this time!

Doing this rally to 'get my hand in' after having not driven CMR2 properly for quite a while, not since last year when I tested a lot of add-on cars from the 'net (as well as getting some practice for Madeira).

I'll be using the stalwart Focus WRC year 2000.

Hope we'll all have a good close battle :)

I believe done a nice rally with some incredible times!
I have learnt finland like my town's roads :D
It's the 3rd in a row rally that we drive in this country no more please :p

Just completed the entire rally.

Shakedown and testing concentrated upon wether to use 3 increments or 4 increments of 'soft' suspension to balance the level of grip vs. the effect on handling reponsiveness.
It also allowed me to get used to the CMR2 handling again.

Rally went well apart from 2 incidents on SS16 and 17 that cost 5 secs each after hitting trees and spinning, necessitating reversing to get back on the stage, with damage to the gearbox.
I also took a gamble to leave the dry gravel tyres on for SS9 and 10 because the forecast was 'cloudy' with no definate rain, but it did rain and I had to reduce my speed as a consequence.

Hope I haven't got completely beaten............... :D
Hope I've beaten LCD........................... ;)

(Thanks to Ford Martini Racing CMR2 for lending me the Focus V3 FMC)

Rally Finland was fast and risky as always!
I was pretty fast with some small mistakes but no collisions at all;
just some struggle to get back into the road at some occasions. :D
I can't tell If I was fast enough, until I see all competitors stage times though!
As always, looking forward to the results!

Finished Finland - what an event....car felt good, no mistakes this rally unlike the last event and set 2 PBs! I'd been messing about with the settings on my wheel and for whatever reason it felt better this event than before (could be purely in my head!!!). Looking forward to seeing the results as Marcel's kicked our behinds recently so it would be good to get a little closer :D

Good news for Fine Wine Motorsports #2! My brother is on his way home to day from his holiday so, presuming his home early enough, I can boot up CMR2 on Windows and give the rally a blast. I'm presuming the problem I had with stages not loading in IRC Russia will still be there for Rally Finland (I've not touched the game since the IRC round) so I'll just re-install the game and hope it goes back to normal. Update later.

I've finished the rally. The shakedown was ok but I was suffering with lethargy all rally long. Its not a good idea to playing games at midnight when I really should be in bed. I found a reasonable setup but couldn't do better than a 2:24.95. On a better day, I could knock a few more seconds off that, I'm sure.

The pace was definitely there on day 1, but I lacked an enormous amount of concentration and made a few silly mistakes which cost a lot of time. I'm pretty satified with a few sector times but must admit that I never really felt 100% comfortable driving the car.

On day 2, I changed the setup slightly. I put the steering sensitivity to +3 (previously at +2.) This did make a difference but I'd lost all my day 1 pace. I was pushing on the opening tests but rain set me back on SS1 and I just couldn't match the previous days' times. This was quite demotivating because I felt like I was driving better, but the time charts suggested the contrary :s After that, I tried to push too hard and made a muck of a few more stages.

I'm not really pleased with that but, then again, I should have rallied earlier on. I'd be surprised if I get points on pace alone, but I do expect the field to be quite small this time.

Forgot my shakedown times:

2:17.53
2:15.46
2:15.09
2:25.64 - less said about that the better, nice trip to the trees!

That's quick. Anybody care to share their setup. Mine was

Suspension: -2
Power ratio: -2
Steering: +2 (then +3 for day 2)

All the rest is default. I like to gradually get the car around the corner. And then I like the rear end to point the car towards the exit (i.e. oversteer on the exit of the corner, hence the power ratio)

jimakos
6th August 2009, 15:36
My set up is:
suspension:-4
Brake power:+2
steering:+2
gearbox:in some stages +1 in some -1 in some default
Hope helping you Paddy!

tannat
6th August 2009, 16:33
Suspension 0 (tried +2 but was a bit hard)
gears 0 +1
Brakes +3
differential 0
Steering +2 +3

Didn't put much thought in it to be honest..

I'm on PS1 with wingpad..

Thanks jimakos  I never considered a suspension that soft, nor brakes that sensitive. I always though high brake power on loose surfaces would encourage the car to lock up. The gearbox could definitely be widened on some stages, its just I never knew exactly which ones.

Cheers team-mate. I find it interesting how differently people approach car setup.

Me too tannat.
The gravel set up and the tarmac set up with a little differences between countries!
I surprised that you don't change suspension

Just to throw my halfpence worth in.......

For Finland, I use medium-long gearing (+1)
-3 or -4 increments of 'soft' suspension,
1 increment Rear power ratio (tourque split),
2 increments to rear of brake bias (helps considerably on loose surfaces. For tarmac you treat the car as if its a racing car, and keep it straight under braking, with the brake bias in the middle),
and the steering is +2 of 'Fast' (on my Logic3 Star Fighter stick).

This setup is for the WRC's.

For the Sierra Cosworth and Escort Mk1 RWD cars I use fully long gearing.
Brake bias remains at 2" to the rear, but these cars are mainly driven (and steered) with the throttle controlling the rear end of the car.

I am pleased with 6th-need to start practicing a bit more if we hope to do better...

If JTL doesn't show for the remaining rounds and Paddy stays in the points (nice job, teammate) Fine Wine may overtake Two Basses for 3rd in the teams championship.

Just need to slow down NOR somehow....

Finally, into the points. I didn't expect that, but I won't complain. The Richard Burns Cup is now within my reach so I think I can go for that in the remaining rounds. Just need to keep ahead of Dravas and hope PS29 doesn't return with a vengeance! Fine Wine are knocking on the door of Two Basses too, so fingers crossed the remainder of the season will fall our way.

In the meantime, better get my focus back on the IRC.
