Have to say that's one of the most unlucky accidents I've ever seen.

RIP Henry

There's also something on the F2 thread in the GP2 section:

Not really. As soon as I saw it you're hoping against hope a flying wheel is not going to hit a driver and chances were it was going to happen sooner or later.

I watched a clip earlier and now finding out about his death, I feel sick to my stomach right now.

RIP Henry Surtees and condolences to the Surtees family.

I wonder if safety standards in F2 are up to par with other feeder series' such as GP2 or FR. Maybe Palmer was rushed in the design/construction of the cars in order to have it rolled out by the beginning of the 2009 season. Max obviously pushed hard for the series when he had his cat fight with Bernie.

RIP Henry.

Luckily it hasn't happened in F1, indeed.
Remember Alonso in Brazil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_51RMUY7_s).

Cars are built to 2005 F1 safety standards.. so they're fairly tough. Unfortunately all single seaters have the drivers head partly exposed, so are vulnerable in the same way.. a one in a million chance. Very sad :( .

RIP Henry, could very well have been a star to watch out for in the future. :(

Same comment as I made on the National section, terrible tragedy but at least it seems to be somewhat of a rarity these days.

Horrible horrible accident, a million to one chance. Henry was showing some real potential, and the old cliche of "dying doing the thing one loves" will be no consolation to anybody. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

To be fair I've always said that if I have a horrible accident while sprinting then so be it. In fact both me and my Dad have agreed that, should the worst happen, the other is to insist that the day should go on and I'd hope that if it were to me then my old man would understand that it was a way that I would be happy to go.
