Bye bye the last championship chances for Loix. He isn't so fast as last year and this was his last chance to win an IRC rally this year. In Sanremo there are the locals and in Scotland gravel.
Go Jan, I hope you can take as many points as possible.

Vallejo was excluded once because his broken car was pushed by the car of another driver which is not allowed. It was just one rally.
By the way Kopecký said in the service that it's very hard to drive these stages for the first time fast. He said he had brake problems on last 9 km of SS2. He also said that the first stage was the first in his life when he had to use extra lights for first morning stage :)

Vouilloz puncture, Wilks gearbox problem plus puncture later in the stage.
wwbroe
11th September 2009, 21:49
Both punctures from Loix and Vouilloz were because a bolt of suspension perforated the rim, a problem they never encountered before. In fact the tyres were still intact but the rim broke because perforation.
For the rest looking forward for big fight for victory tomorrow, unfortunally without the Peugeot's. :)

I don't think so, because although Kronos prepare both cars (Meeke and Nico) they are funded separate, so I guess it is up to Peugeot Belgium...
HaCo
12th September 2009, 10:09
RS, I think (and it's only a guess), peugeot has something to say as well and I'm sure Meeke will get the position from Nicolas.
I saw the Eurosport tv show yesterday and Loix said he has to use setup of Vouilloz, and he is not happy about it. He cannot find confidence (in the rear end). Why does he have to use THAT setup and why can't he change it? Maybe he should (or will) have to look for another drive for next year. I'm dreaming out loud, but a Fiesta S2000 run by a Belgian team Floral Racing would be great ;) (this is just me dreaming, not even a rumour!!!).

+1. I think it's going to go down to the wire in Scotland. Kopecky has to be favourite for San Remo but as we've seen this weekend we can't take anything for granted (and with 9 stages it'll be hard to play catch-up for anybody).

That's your view Mr Koo. I expressed my view. Others expressed their views.
But please don't patronise me with this "that's how it goes" nonsense. We'll all aware of what goes on, we're all aware why it goes on. We all "get it", doesn't mean I or indeed others have to agree with it.
In this particular case, as I mentioned earlier, I believe Vouilloz offered the place to Meeke rather than being ordered by the team. That being the case it was a gentlemanly gesture.

I'm not patronizing you or anyone else. :)
I personally just don't understand how people can't accept it's part of the sport. You don't have to explain it to me, everyone has a right to have their own opinion and I duly respect it. I'm not on a crusade here.
However, I don't understand the logic how you make a tactical decision (which you hate) a gentlemanly gesture because the "active participant" is a driver and not a team manager. Drivers drive in a team so they have to be team players. Now that Vouilloz gave up his spot, Meeke climbs up to second and that's okay. If the team manager would have ordered this, the final results would have been the same but that would have been dirty tactics... Even though this time it was the drivers decision, it's still tactics. I appreciate Vouilloz for doing that, but I would have appreciated the team manager just as much if it would have been his decision. :)

In my opinion it was team decision but that doesn't matter. Funny that Kopecký may lost the tittle battle because they didn't apply tactics in Russia. But for Škoda tittle wasn't a target this year, they wanted to promote the car by a couple of victories and that was achieved. The fact Kopecký is in a fight for the crown is more a nice bonus :)

Congratulations for Kopecky!

Congratulations for Kopecký and Škoda Motorsport. A pity that Hevia had that puncture, that means 2 points extra for Meeke.
Again teamorders by Kronos. They did it so much times in the past and now again. There are so much Pug’s and still they use teamorders.
Much respect for Kopecký, Hänninen and Škoda Motorsport, they didn’t do that in Russia. Probably an Italian wins Sanremo, but I hope Jan can keep Meeke behind him in that rally too. I hope the recce that he did last year in Sanremo will help him.

Go on Kris, I'm absolutely delighted for him, a great recovery from the puncture :) , tactics are part of the game guys and they make the sport more interesting.
Well done to Kris and Kronos :D :D

If the title does go down to the wire it could be the case that Hanninen might now have to do the same for Kopecky in Scotland, that would be a shame as IRC does generally seem a little less plagued by tactical nonsense than WRC.

A short translation of what Kopecký said:
"I wasn't surprised. After the first stage of the last loop I asked Kris if they would swap possitions and he said yes. I thought to myself it was all right, I couldn't change it anyhow. It's their decission."

Fabia is equivalent to Peugeot-no doubt about that, regardless of the surface....This is excellent comercial for Škoda Motorsport, I think they will sell many Fabias to the private teams during winter pause. Abarth is still not for the old rubbish, Basso will be in San Remo definitely benchmark for others.

Tactics play a part in every sport and motorsport is no different. It comes down to who is able to use them better.

You are entitled to your own view point, but still you are wrong.
Tactics dont pollute every sport yet thankfully, I thought the IRC was above them, I was wrong on this, Peugeot thanks to the number of competitors have many more chances to screw results, and it stinks a bit in my opinion.
Ps.I am and have been a fan of both Meeke and Kopecky for years now, they are 2 great drivers, and I really hope this isnt how the championship is decided

As I said it comes down to who is able to use the tactics better, Skoda had the chance to let Jan finish ahead of Juho in Russia and they failed to do so, Peugeot got there oppurtunity today, they took it and rightly so.

In your opinion... Are you so desperite for success for 'your man' that you feel the manner that it is achieved in is not important? Tune in to a bit of Moto GP to you see how team mates should treat each other :)

Let the new FIA president enter and maybe they will ban tactics, and i sure hope they do so because this is starting to get really annoying!!!!

Skoda had there oppurtunity which they failed to take so dont complain.
If Kris wins the champpionship he will have it well earned and he will be the rightfull winner.

I find Meeke a great driver. I said in my post that Kronos used so much tactics in the past and now again. They do it for more than 10 years now. I have a problem with that, not with Meeke as a driver or as a person. He is by far the biggest talent for Ireland / UK now and in the future.

Škoda failed to do so? Škoda took the right decision with the victory of Juho in Russia. Even when Kopecký loses the championship by 1 point, than I find it good that Juho took the victory there. It is only their first season with the new Fabia, you may not forget that.
Look at the results in Madeira with 8 Peugeot’s in the top 9. You must understand that it is good for the fans, spectators and of course for Škoda and Kopecký that they do the rest of the championship. I prefer to have as much different marques as possible. Without Škoda, Peugeot should have no strong opposition, because the Fiat is not so fast and not reliable enough.

Yet and not only for him, but also for the Skoda team! Anyway, Hevia showed great performance. That's IMHO great about IRC: local drivers able to fight for victory and support car maker they drive with...
Peugeot is champion by the way...

Not for me... Rally is the love of my life and I can admit that sometimes it's been really hard to hide some of the feelings after something has gone wrong. I can only imagine how strongly a competitor can feel the disappointments...
Luckily it works both ways, 'cause after a very long and exhausting four day marathon in Rally Finland, it was such a joy to hear Mikko winning the rally while driving back home from Myhinpää.

We are back home after another exciting rally, the stages are really very nice, but pitty that organisation doesn't match up with the quality of the stages.
We saw another great fight in this IRC rally, with the Skoda's and Basso being very strong, something that couldn't be said by the Kronos crews, who were all struggeling with their suspensions. It was only after they changed set-up of Vouilloz to last years suspension for second day that he started to do really good times. You can easily see the difference by eye when you go and watch on the stages. Great performance by Hevia who was exceptionally quick on his home rally (he is from Pola de Sierro). Basso was attacking very much with great passages as a result of that, he was by far the most spectacular guy, but unfortunally he went off the road and lost about seven minutes.
At the end, the Peugeot crews were lucky to take 2th, 3th and 4th, due to offroad by Basso and flat tyre by Hevia, they only past Fontana on a regular basis, and Meeke was lucky that Vouilloz was asked to take time-penalty so that he could keep his small lead in the championship. I think it will be a tough fight for victory tough, especially in San Remo. We will see what the outcome will be but i am certainly looking forward to it. :)

Can any Spanish-speaking person help me understand what Hevia is saying in the crying footage? I'd like to know what really upset him so much, I understand it's the puncture ruining months of efforts finding sponsors, etc. but I'd like to know more in detail.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!

Is easy to end with tactics on rallyes. Put only one driver in each team! :D
Nobody can put an end on tactics. Is part of the game. Ours day motorsport is very very expensive with much money around.

Hevia - What can I do, Pin?
Pin - (Notes)
Hevia - But where did I suffer the punture! I didn't touch anything! ...
Pin - Be quiet...
Hevia - What?
Pin - Do you wanna stop and change?
Hevia - Of course, mate... "Me cago en mi puta madre" (Impossible to translate, sorry...)... Please... I didn't cut anywhere!
Pin - Here!
Hevia - Please... (Cries) ...handbrake... (Cries) ... handbrake...
(Out of the car)
Hevia - No, no, no... No, please, no... Please...
In fact, it seems that they didn't cut the tyre, but a valve wasn't correctly closed, so the tyre lost all the air (I was 50 meters before, and the car was slow, with warning lights, but anybody saw the puncture...)

I saw reported somewhere that the 3 RMC cars ran out of spare wheels. I don't know if this means they all had multiple punctures and not enough spares or ran out of tyres in service. Strange that it all happened on one stage.

RMC provides 10 tyres each driver for the whole rally.
The drivers wanted more tyres. RMC would not provide more. The drivers agreed to retire because they had degraded all.

The rules are: 8 tyres for a National Rally, 10 for Principe, and 16 for Catalunya. It's part of "the spirit of the Cup": to make the most of what you have (Or at least that's what they've said to hide their mistake...)
RMC offered his drivers to sell them more tyres, but at a high cost, and only Senra wanted to/could afford them... That's the version I heard of...
