Hi, i am a new-ish rally fan, and i went to the Trackrod rally of yorkshire last autumn and had an excellent time. I have looked around but avn't found any particularly useful websites for information. Can anyone help me?

I would like to know about what rally events are going on in england this season, where and when they will be, what level of proffesionalism to expect at different events and what cars will be driving. Similar questions apply to rally-x as well.

Any advice, or experience you guys have would be excellent, thanks.

Tom

Go to the JCMR rally or if you can go to Ireland for some seriously good rallying.
You have started at the bottom mate with the Craptrod rally you can only go up now.

Really, thats kool. I cant really travel outside of england (unless its nearby wales), and i can't really go north of yorkshire by much. What rally's are good within that range? And what about tarmac rally's?

I know what you mean I have started to get into rallying and wondered if there was a site which had where rallies were in the england or the UK as I would definately go to some that are local to myself.

Forget about England, Ireland is where its at.More WRC's than anywhere in the world. Loads of money over here, rumour is a property developer bought the UK last week :)

Thanks to the http://www.itsmymotorsport.co.uk/Rally_Events.htm link I will be heading off to the Quintonstages rally in MIRA on 31st March and the Rally of the Midlands in June. I will get some pics uploaded on here once I have been, shame there are no other rallies around Warwickshire though

Beware - just because an event is taking place doesn't mean it necessarily accepts spectators. The owners of test tracks like MIRA & Millbrook and military ranges like Otterburn frequently make it a condition of use that spectators are not permitted. Check with the organisers first & if you can't spectate you could offer to sign on as a marshal. You won't be able to take photographs if you're marshalling but you'd be involved & working with other enthusiasts. Test tracks can also be very sensitive about cameras on site. They are frequently used for pre-launch testing of cars and the manufacturers don't like pictures of their new models on show before they decide to launch them. I have been to Millbrook in the past where the site operator has accredited motorsport press photographers themselves, not left it to the event oraganisers & then searched other vehicles for still & video cameras before access to the site was permitted.

Gutted thanks for that, I should of known as my brother used to work at MIRA. I have emailed both events have had a reply from the Rally of Midlands one which sounds good as the stages will be at Hinckley town centre and also Mallory Park. Then Sunday they are at Arbury Hall and also Merevale which is near where I live as I live just outside Tamworth. I have not heard from the event at MIRA as yet but I will look at maybe marshalling if spectators are not aloud.

Thanks alot Steve

I live just outside Tamworth.

In which case the Robin Hood Forest stages on 11th March

http://www.robinhoodforeststages.co.uk/

and the Dukeries on the 16th June

http://www.dukeries-rally.co.uk/

(NB web site currently refers to 2006 event but will be updated before long).

are both reasonably close as they run in "Sherwood Forest". Both will allow spectators.

One of the best ways to find out what's on is to pick up a Motosport News. Not only do you get a good amount of information about almost anything with four wheels and an engine but they do a co-driver's companion and a What's On? section. As already mentioned you'll have to be careful about which events let spectators in if you go by the co-drivers companion but the What's On bit will only give spectator events and if you're lucky some rough idea of where stages are and what time.

It might be a good idea to try and find out what single venues you can spectate at by contacting local Motor Clubs. SV events don't usually have the best entry but it's a good way to start watching and makes the better stuff seem so much quicker :)

If you can make it as far as mid-Wales then try either the Mewla or Tour Of Epynt on the Brecon Beacons. The Epynt military ranges are notorious in the sport and have accounted for millions of punds worth of damage over the years, including former WRC champ Marcus Gronholm.
