Basically we now know that despite the hints of a major schedule re-alignment in 2010 next year's schedule will look very much similar to this year's schedule. I'm a believer that the ICS needs to make a dramatic change a build a stronger schedule.

So in a dream world this is the schedule I'd like to see. 20 races that are a good mix of ovals, road and street courses with an all-star event for race and pole winners with former series champions from the ICS and CCWS.

What don't you like about the races on VERSUS? I haven't read many negative reports of their qualifying or regular race coverage.

tough for danica to build her brand with less than a 1/2 million folks tuning in?

Ken, I think that might be the key to figuring out where she goes next year. She could be bluffing, but there's just as good a chance that she's not. On VS, and even on ABC, the IRL is just not getting her or her brand in front of as many eyes as it could in NASCAR. Even as a Nationwide driver, she would be seen by MANY more people both at track and on TV. So I'm really starting to believe that she will be in NASCAR next year, either part-time split with IRL, or full-time. I'd like to see her out of the IRL as she kind of marginalizes the league IMO, but she would fit right in with the larger than life NASCAR characters. To a certain extent, the IRL is now the "Danica" series, but in NASCAR she would just be one of many popular drivers. If she really is all about the money, about her personal "brand", and less about winning races, then I think the switch is all too obvious. The troubles going on in NASCAR right now might even make her more attractive to one of the big teams over there.

And in five posts Danica is brought into a thread that has nothing to do with her... At least when she's gone to NASCAR we can find something else to talk about.

When there is less than half of the viewers that can even tune into a race now, who cares how good the coverage is if no one is watching. Ive said this many times before.

Yes I think you are dreaming.

With the state of the economy and the high probability the George money has been cut off, you might need to be happy with anything more than 12 races, anywhere next year.

Phoenix and Las Vegas in the middle of the summer?

Ouch, even at night, ouch

MDS
2nd July 2009, 00:53
Actually Mexico City isn't that bad in the summer because of the altitude. According to weather.com the average temp is 73 in July and 77 in March. The reason you might not want to race in Mexico City in the summer is rainfall and futball.

I've been there a couple of times during the summer and its not bad, wet, but not bad, once you get past the kidnapping, sanitation and street crime problems. We had a client in Mexico City for a number of years and we finally dropped them because the cost of security for the team we would send over there killed any profit we could make.

Can't really move the street courses much, but I like your idea of starting with a 500 at a big speedway like California, problem is its too close to Long Beach and the NASCAR race at Fontana, maybe Texas in early March would be better?

You still didn't take seasons into consideration, Feb-Apr is our rainy season "winter". (Yes I know Nascar does it, but their schedule is much tighter, and some year it's really going to bite them with two races that need to be postponed and only 3 open weekends all year.

When there is less than half of the viewers that can even tune into a race now, who cares how good the coverage is if no one is watching. Ive said this many times before.

So you put casual fans that don't know anything about the sport before the hardcore fans that want good coverage?

That's nice.

When the IRL gives people a reason to tune in to Versus, people will tune in. And good coverage is a nice start. Now we just need good racing.
