Brawn's deputy technical director Joerg Zander has left the team.

The German joined the outfit, when it was Honda, in July 2007, having had spells at BAR, Williams and BMW-Sauber.

Zander helped play a role in creating Brawn's successful BGP 001, which has won six of the first eight races of the season.

A Brawn GP spokeswoman confirmed Zander had left last Friday.

"Joerg contributed significantly to our success so far this season for which we thank him and wish him all the best for the future," she said.

Sounds like he left under a bit of a cloud?

Perhaps there was a power struggle within the team and he thought he wasn't getting enough praise for his efforts? Abit like Dave Ryan at Mclaren....

It was a bit of a "don't let the door slam your arse on the way out" sort of statement.

Maybe it's all downhill for Button from now on.
I wonder who poached Zander though! :D

possibly got a better deal with one of the new teams coming next season.
And since it comes down to getting things squared away, the sooner the better.

It's strange for someone to leave mid season like this.

He's either been poached with a lond period of Gardening leave or has had a bit of a fallout.

Probably the former.

One team that would certainly appreciate his knowledge right now is McLaren! :D

That was my initial thought, maybe Merc/McLaren made him an offer he couldn't refuse?? They certainly need the help!

Perhaps, just perhaps, technical data has mysteriously moved from one team to another, remember McLaren=Ferrari, nice payday for anyone with inside knowledge of the Brawn car.

Jörg Zander (born February 15 (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/February_15), 1964 (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/1964) in Ratingen) is a German (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Germany) Formula One (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Formula_One) car chief designer.
Zander graduated from Cologne University (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Cologne_University) in 1990 before joining Toyota (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Toyota). After a brief period working in Touring Cars (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Touring_Cars) he returned to Toyota to work on the Formula One project and in 2003 moved to the BAR (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/British_American_Racing) Formula One team.
In September 2005, Zander was recruited by the Williams team to replace outgoing Chief Designer Gavin Fisher (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Gavin_Fisher) who was sacked earlier in the year as a result of the team's poor performances. Zander worked alongside Chief Aerodynamicist Loïc Bigois (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Lo%C3%AFc_Bigois), under the supervision of Technical Director Sam Michael (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Sam_Michael).
In March 2006, Zander resigned from the Williams team due to personal reasons, and immediately joined the BMW Sauber (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/BMW_Sauber) team as Chief Designer, accountable to Technical Director Willy Rampf (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Willy_Rampf).
In July 2007, it was announced he had agreed to join the Honda Racing F1 (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Honda_Racing_F1). Zander was immediately suspended and then joined Honda.[1] (http://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/#cite_note-0) Zander continued in his role with the Brawn GP (http://www.motorsportforums.com/wiki/Brawn_GP) team, following the management buy-out in March 2009 of the Honda F1 operation, but left the team on 19 June 2009

Judging by his past work history, he seems to jump about quite a bit. Possibly he has a talent for making himself unpopular or maybe he designs the bits Red Bull are catching up with and now beating.

Interesting enough he seems to have been involved in the design of quite some good F1 cars, with each of these teams.
