On this Sunday (28th) up at Smeatharpe. Anyone making the effort? It's been a while since my last rally (Chargot at the Somerset Stages) so even though it's just an SV I need a bit of a rallying fix. Saw somewhere that the entry is pretty much full but haven't got a list sadly :( Still should be good fun, especially as it's less than half and hour from me :D

Sound, cheers for that.

Me and the old man applied for the FoS too but seeing as we have no real experience of being marshals sort of knew it was a no go anyway.

I certainly wouldn't make the effort if it was more than say 90 minutes away, it's not usually that exciting just a chance to see and hear some sweet cars

Got home last night to find that I will be going to the FoS afterall :D Doing the rally stage on Firday and Saturday.

Will try an get some decent shots but a mixture of my poor camera skills and a not overly entertaining rally might not give the best results :D I just hope that the Aston is running okay because I always like to see interesting stuff :)

A good day of rallying today, spoilt only by me tripping over an electric fence, resulting in a cut hand and several shocks as I tried to untangle myself, then returning to my car to find that my old man had somehow managed to lock my boot to such a degree that I now can't get in and will have our lunch cooking slowly until I manage to sort out a way to fix it. At this moment I sort of wish that I still had a car with foldable rear seats :D

Anyway, photos. Very few of note, the one perfect shot that I got has a man's arm in the middle of the car and most other things had the wrong shutter speed and came out either blurred or too dark. Still, lives and learns.

There will be more to follow (and some videos) but Flickr is being a pile of arse at the minute and insists on only uploading half of my photos for no apparent reason.

@wotaguy - not sure what stints I'll be doing on Saturday but most likely will be lurking in a rather battered Michelin hat (won it at the FoS years ago)

Top camera work :D

Cant believe they put this on the same weekend as Glastonbury, I was gutted when I found out being my local rally! Is there any more rallys planned for Smeatharpe this year?

Was gutted for this one, the bloke decided to wave to the driver just as I pressed the button

Think this must have been the last run through as this was very tidy for the rest of the day, mind you it's got some go on it, stickers say JRE who I believe make some fairly meaty engines and this one definately shifted

There is another rally up at Smeatharpe on Sunday. First car at 9:00 and entry list etc. can be found at: http://www.bdcc.org.uk/the%20prima%20motorsport%20stages%202009.html

Usual sort of entry by the looks of it, Furzeland will win barring problems I'd have thought. Sadly I've got a club meeting at Tivvy so won't be going, although I might try and get across for the first stage or 2

Very late but a few pics from the Prima stages. Not the best as I only had a short lense and wasnt allowed to photograph from where I usually do. Still was a good event.

Not bad considering they only ran miles from anywhere that you could watch. I caught the first 2 stages but was fairly tame, the most notable thing was how beautiful the 6r4 sounded :D I managed to get one video and will try to upload it at some point......or I'll forget

Allyc85

6R4, what 6R4 lol. It must have retired by the time we got up there at around 11-11.30 :(

Looking forward to the video :p

POSTPONED

The worst winter weather to grip Britain in over 30 years has forced South Hams Motor Club to postpone the Kynaston Auto Services Stages scheduled for Saturday 9th January 2010.

This decision has been taken taken when it became apparent that the safety of ALL concerned may be compromised.

We have taken advice from the Land owner, Police and the Met Office.

We hope to announce a replacement date later next week.

Issued at 1800hrs - 6 January 2010

Andrew Bulpin
For the organising team at SHMC
NOTE: Competitors will be contacted by telephone and letter/email

Tis a shame but you cant blame them really. The roads are shocking around here at the moment with the slightest incline an ice rink, so trying to get vans n trailers up there would have been massively difficult.

MrJan
6th January 2010, 21:15
Fair enough, cheers for posting. A bloke at work was trying to pick someone up from Dunkeswell today and had to turn back so it's for the best really. Looks like I'll be going to watch the Exeter Trial instead then :)

I'll still make a visit during the morning before buggering off to watch City against Stockport.

Good mornings rallying yesterday i thought even with the early morning snow making things tricky. Saw a few spins and a very expensive looking engine failure for an Astra while the 6R4 and the two Audis sounded amazing :D

I couldn't believe the police presence in the area though. 2 patrol cars looking out for people speeding and one to check for tax and insurance is a joke, surely theyve got better things to do! I also heard that people were still trying to get the rally cancelled. Why dont they just f**k off back to where they came from, I just dont see how 3 days noise out of a year can be so bad!

MrJan
21st February 2010, 17:29
Shame about where they put the service park, ruins the spectating part of the rally really. I missed the first stage or two (didn't get there until nearly half ten) but enjoyed seeing that Focus slide straight into the s*** :D THat yellow Millington engined MK1 seemed to be struggling to get the power down and the barn yard gave some good sideways action.

No photos because it was a bit of a lame place to stand but I did nearly get a shot of some green, 2 door Ford Focus that was parked in front of me ;)

Allyc85
21st February 2010, 20:05

Cracking shot of that Mini, he seemed to be peddling it fairly well. Those must have been taken before I got there because there was no sign of snow when I arrived :(

I did actually spot you at the car but someone was yapping to me and by the time they'd stopped you had disappeared :D

Just a reminder to people going to watch, do not speed or drive irresponsibly in and around the Smeatharpe area!!!

The area was crawling with Police during the last rally there and it is a highly sensitive issue with the locals. The last thing we need is idiots trying to copy the rally drivers and getting events cancelled!

Great shots, that pic of the MK2 is spot on

My old man popped up and was stood at that bottom corner (where the Escort photo is), apparently a Subaru lost it and went sliding into the bank about 8 feet away from him  Not often you see someone hit that bank properly.

I think that Muse was awesome, TBH I didn't see much because we were about 5 rows from the front and spent most of our time going nuts. I was dressed as an alien and whenever I had the mask down I could literally see nothing beyond some bright lights, half the time I wasn't even sure if I was facing the stage :D

Allyc85
1st July 2010, 19:42
Haha good times :D :D

I heard about the scoob hitting the bank, the straight leading into it was all the way from the middle of the air field so they were going a fair speed by the end of it :)

The rest of the rally pics are here. Looks like I might have to go pro (lol) with the amount I upload.
