Friday I'm off :D Can't wait!
Hope it's going to be another cracking race, just like Barcelona.. Yamaha boys are the favourites IMO
Have you got your raincoat?

Have you got your raincoat?
Yes I have :( It just can't be 3 days dry during Assen's TT :(

Not another wet race. Have a great time Corny. Should be a great race. This series is getting better and better (except the weather  ).

Thankyou Ninja!
It just gets me so sick it always has to rain at TT-Assen.. GRRR
Just hope the MotoGP race will be ridden in the dry, but I can't expect that seen the weather forecasts :(

Another? I have not seen rain in a MotoGP race this year. It will be very hot again in Assen and in the races for the Dutch Superbikes in Assen this year, it was hot too.
I really hope it will be raining the whole day on Saturday in Assen. Sorry Corny, but my favourite team Suzuki has only a chance on a podium when it is a wet race and I love rain. :)

Errm, Le Mans and Mugello? At least for half of the race, because I remember they changed bikes in both of these races.

I didn't see rain in the races, that is what I told. The track was a bit wet in the opening laps, but there wasn't rain in these races.

Fine, rain effected then. Picky, picky. ;) I just want to see dry racing so it can be close. Moisture seems to screw it up.

I think it was pouring down in Le Mans in the opening laps. And then there was the Monday MotoGP race at Qatar, because of rain too (although I am sure that doesn't count.) :D

If Yamaha boys are at the front battling each other again, would we change the championship to be Yamaha Cup Race? :)

I'm a MotoGP virgin in that I have never watched a whole race before, but the last lap in Barcelona has interested me and thus I'll watch today. When I follow something, I get really into it, so have already decided Dovizioso is the man I support due to his bike and potential.
Hope I get a good race today, and of course good weather for Corny!

As soon as I start supporting someone, it all goes wrong for them...
Good race anyway, and battles all over except for 1st and 2nd. Still confused about lack of pit stops and short races though - F1 has warped my brain! And what's with 3 per row on the grid? And races on a Saturday?
I'm sure I'll grasp it one day!

I go along with the race commentator at Assen regarding the need for altering the runoff area at the entrance to the chicane that enables riders to rejoin the race in a position whereby they are likely to balk or at worst, "T-bone" another rider who has taken the correct course.
In addition to that it is not (IMO) fair racing to allow a rider who has an off-track excursion to that extent, to have the asphalt strip that allows him to come back onto the track with very little loss of speed and position and without having to take the correct route
There are a couple of tracks with similar setups but in my opinion if a rider leaves the track as a result of his own riding error and (apart from running wide and onto the grass parallel to the track) cannot follow the basic course, he should be disadvantaged and drop at least a couple of seconds.
Moto GP - I was impressed by the battle for 5th and particularly the efforts of Toseland and Kallio in that group. The rest of the race left me a bit flat although Rossi's 100 race win achievemt was one for the history books.
125's - 250's - what else can you say but absolutely top shelf.
Must go - the nurses say it's time to put the straightjacket back on so I can watch the Supers at Donington.

Most MotoGP races have a bit more happening up front than Assen, stick with it.
Bike racing is far more physical than driving and 40-45 mins is about as much as the riders can comfortably cope with, especially at tracks in hot climates. You also get 125cc and 250cc two-stroke GP bikes as support, so in effect it's a whole day of racing (at the track) or close to three hours on tv. It's worth watching the little bikes, the action is generally far more frenetic than the big bangers (especially the Assen race just gone, the 125s were just insane!).
No pitstops as they don't need them, unless it's a declared 'wet race', in which case the riders can start on wets or slicks and change to a second bike set up for opposite conditions, should it be necessary.
Assen has always been a Saturday race, all others are Sunday except Qatar which is also a Saturday, this is because the Muslim weekend is Fri/Sat. Qatar is also held at night under lights.
Three abreast on the grid just because they fit, sometimes there can be four abreast.
Check out World Superbike too, it's great. Good to see you coming on board :)

 You have missed out on some seriously good fun then, over the last 6 or 7 years the action in MotoGP has kept me sane enough to be able to endure F1 :D
Not a bad race, the battle between JT, Kallio, Capi etc was frenetic and I'm just amazed that De Puniet managed to finish. Gutted for Mika who deserved something out of that race and Loris must have been hacked off a bit but it was great to see Toseland a bit further up the leaderboard. If Britain can have a reasonably successful rider then it can only help the popularity of the sport, if he drifts down the grid and slides back to WSB then a lot of the partisan Brits will tune out again. Thank God that there is an amazing rider like Rossi out there to capture the crowd, just a shame that Stoner isn't fit enough/has a bike capable of taking it to Vale week in, week out. Still it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the championship unfolds as the races are starting to get a bit more exciting :D

Thanks for the info and welcome.
I heard about WSBK, but its not on TV in GB so I won't be able to follow it easily. Is WSBK a better or worse standard to MotoGP - what's the difference?
MrJan
29th June 2009, 17:43
WSB is sort of like Touring Cars of the bike world. The bikes are much closer to standard rather than in MotoGP where they are one ofs (much like F1). I haven't seen it for years but it certainly used to be fantastic, although back then MotoGP was equally as epic with Gibernau/Biaggi and Rossi battling away.
