From a motorcycle forum I frequent:

So after work today, I decided to go to a sporting goods store at The Gateway Mall in downtown Salt Lake City. As I'm browsing around I see a couple of guy's in Aprillia team shirts. I wasn't sure if they were in town just for the races this weekend and were BIG Aprillia fanboy's, or if they were actual team members. I figure, what the heck.
"You in town for the races?"
"Jes."
"Where you from?"
"Ee-taly"
Well, with Italian accents as thick as goat cheese, I figure these guy's probably aren't on Nakano's team.
So I say "You are on Biaggi's team then."
"Jes."
I'm not the biggest Biaggi fan... Ok... In fact, I really don't like the guy, but I figure SLC is hosting this event, be nice.
I shook their hands and wished them and their team the best of luck.
They said their "Thank you's" and we parted ways.
Now why couldn't they have been wearing a Ducati or Yamaha shirt...
Oh well. I'll see those guy's on Sunday.

Counting down, should be a good event as Fabrizio and Haga did well there last year and I don't even need to mention Spies (pole and a double, anyone?)

This one has 'Spies Double' written all over it, unless something goes wrong with the Yamaha or he himself bins it.

Well, that's just about every WSB round to date summed up in one line, X :D

:p Not exactly man. I kinda knew for sure that Haga was gonna do a double at Valencia, and he did. I also believed he would do better than his grid 3rd place at Kyalami, and he did a double again there, Spies or no Spies.

But unlike other tracks, this is one that Spies has raced on before and won numerous times. If he can bang in six superpoles on not so familiar circuits, he ought to lap the entire field at Utah.

Actually, Big Ben may not have the advantage of the course. Miller Motorsports Park is fairly new, opened by the Miller family of the NBA's Utah Jazz, and the Superbikes use only the outer course, not the full course. When the domestic championships raced at Miller, they used the full course because of commercial issues, not the outer course. The full course is 50% longer than the outer course.

Speaking of the Utah race, the Supersport race will feature a wild card woman who has more pressure than you'd expect -- her husband won Race One of the two races of the last domestic Superbike series round at Infineon Raceway in northern California two weeks ago.

That's good info, Bobby, thanks for sharing.

Ms Paris was featured by Kropotkin yesterday, great to see her competing.

Hats off to Spies, not a surprise at all but he must be commended for taking 7 of 7 Superpoles in his rookie season. What's to stop him taking every pole of the year?????

The surprise, for me, is Broc Parkes - and just after I dropped him from my Forum Fantasy team :dozey:

Congrats to Lascorz too.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or has Andrew Pitt disappeared from the timing sheets?

Rod Richardson
31st May 2009, 02:46
I don't know why the hell it was not mentioned (yet) on the WSBK site but according to Kropotkin site Haga crashed heavily at end of 1st session on Saturday whereas "Andrew Pitt crashed heavily at the start of the session, and did not rejoin. Pitt is believed not to have been seriously hurt in the incident." Don't know at this stage whether he will be a starter.

I believe Pitt crashed on his out lap and was concussed, hence no time in second qualifying. Lascorz has continued his and Kawasaki's impressive rise and hopefully a win is just around the corner but equally, West continues to struggle. Also, Nannelli's impressive 4th appears to show Triumph on the right track as well.

It seems Haga has entered his struggle period. His crash at Monza and a lack of pace and a big crash here at Miller (though nicely offset by his double at Kyalami). Probably look to take solid points from here to limit the damage. Spies is a freak and Checa on for his good round of the year.

It was really great to hear Ben Bostrom in the commentary box, he was interesting and informative even though Jonathon Green kept interrupting, (as he does).
The races started at 5.30am (monday) here but worth getting up early for and I enjoyed all the races. I hope Nori is ok by the next round.

Barry Veneman (Supersport) has stopped racing for Hoegee Suzuki

Hope he'll find a good place in the field soon

Yeah Bostrom was good. Green was his usual self, going into histrionics whenever a British rider set a personal best in 11th or 14th or wherever, and he managed to get a mention of Foggy in too

Fabrizio is fantastico. Don't rule him out for the title! Tardozzi will be full ahead for both his stars and the Ducati always gets faster as the season progresses.

Shame for Nori, hopefully that's his disaster round out of the way. He still has a decent points buffer.

Nice to see Fabrizio proving his doubters wrong. Hopefully he can keep growing in stature and make it a classic 3-way fight for the title.
Terrible shame for Haslam to crash out on the last lap of race 2, he's really been a bit of a surprise to me with how strong he's been this year.

In good WSB news, Regis Laconi's health is on the improve. He has apparently been able to walk unassissted and will be headed home soon.
