This is the richest purse in Indianapolis 500 history. An incredible 3 million dollar payoff for Helio.

Helio please NO OFFSHORE ACCOUNTS !!!!

You deserve every penny.

Does anyone know the exact source of all this money ? Is the majority from gate receipts or from commercial sponsorship awards ?? I would love to see an accurate breakdown. I am wondering what kind of prize money it would take to get more Formula 1 guys and NASCAR guys over to try the 500 like back in the day ?

All figures include additional awards for pole, lap leader, etc.

good, since the USD isn't worth much these days anymore, they better pay more of it.
I hope Helio changes quickly into Brazilian Real ;)

Move the date or the time and I think there are at least a couple of NASCAR drivers (Tony Stewart being one) who might do Indy.

As for Formula One drivers, do you mean active F1 drivers? As long as Indy is held on the same weekend as Monaco, I'd say there's zero chance of an active F1 driver doing Indy. It's not the money, as much as the team wouldn't allow it, and to an F1 driver, Monaco is more important. Just as Daytona is more important to a NASCAR driver and Le Mans is more important to a sports car driver. Tony doesn't have enough and can't borrow enough money to pay a top tier F1 or NASCAR driver to walk away from their own series, where they make from $20 million to $50 million+ a year. And unless it's a top tier driver, what would be the point? Right?

What should the IRL do next? IMO, hire Humpy Wheeler and basically just do what he says. If he tells Tony to run a warm bath and open a vein, then Tony should run a warm bath and open a vein.

Absolutely - could not agree more. Humpy KNOWS how to promote, and I think might relish a chance to put NASCAR in 2nd place.

Could this mean the IRL running at Charlotte again ? I don't think tires flying into the stands would be an issue anymore with the tethers attached. The IRL drew decent crowds when it ran there. 50K +
