Why would they? Versus is competition.

Are you serios?

Why wouldn´t he be serious?, that is the way the world works, why would ABC mention another channel for free?, when was the last time that you saw an ad for Seattle´s Best in a Starbuck´s cup?, or a Papa John´s ad in a Pizza Hut box.

Who is the one interested in telling people where to find the rest of the IRL races?, ABC or the IRL?, IRL should have pay to put a few ads telling people about VS and IRL races.

That is what you get for believing people in forums, heck, I keep repeating in forums that I´m smart and handsome :D

ABC or ESPN will not do it for free, that is for sure, if it is part of the contract, that is a different story, but until we get a copy of the contract, we will not know if that is true and if true the details, which races, how many ads or how many plugs from the commentators, etc, etc, etc.

Versus does such a better job than ABC. How long was Townsend Bell in the first six before he got a mention. With ABC they much take a lot of Viagra before a race because they never shut the F up about Danica Patrick whether she is 8th 10th or third.

I'll grant she ran a good race but until she is in equal equipment and not being funded to the tune of 9 million oer year {last year I believe} and see her race in the same equipment as Sarah or Milaka Duno , then I will believe her talent.

As far as coverage and no mention of Versus. I have to say that the prior posts said it all.

BTW, did anyone notice the difference bewteen how Versus gives a chance to all the teams, ie, expose their sponsors and drivers , yet ABC shows only a few. Justin Wilson was shown a couple of times. Once when he spun in the pits and the second time when he crashed. Nothing about the great run he had made to make up spots.

ABC made this race a bore for me.

Would you settle for Starbuck's corporate news department? ;)

This was a very big annoyance for me! Especially the first part of the race they just kept following Penske and Ganassi on and on and on. In a four hour race they should give a full field rundown at least once. Wilson, Meira, Hamilton, Philippe were only shown when they crashed. Conway and Tagliani were only shown once when they were battling. Sarah Fisher only got in focus once. Duno, Sharp and Foyt IV I didn't even saw at all. J. Andretti was only shown in yellow flag laps on his onboard camera. Servia and Viso only in a small glimpse at the pits. Apparently Townsend Bell went from 24th to 4th but I never saw any of that.
How are these teams going to get sponsorship when they don't get any airtime??

You want intelligent coverage from ABC and maybe have them admit that another carrier is involved? Naive....ABC/ESPN is part of the Disney umbrella. Disney don't play well with others...

Dreadful coverage by the way...when I thought Jack Arute was one of the best parts of the broadcast ( along with the lovely Jamie Little ) then you KNOW things are not good. I was SO tired of hearing about bloody Danica. She did well, but she is one driver in 33, but it seems she was the one ABC had their heart set on seeing win....

Being older than dirt I remember when the only motor racing on TV was the coverage on Wide World of Sports on ABC.
The coverage then was terrible and ABC have consistently maintained this standard of coverage of racing. I don't know why anyone would expect anything better now.
ESPN has never done a good job of covering racing. The problem seems to be that the producers/directors are basically stick and ball types and just do not understand sports that involve more than two people or teams at a time.

If you ruin one of my points again, I will have to ban you and start rumors about you. In my defense I said in a cup :)

I dare you, a double dare you to find the same with Pizza Hut and Papa John´s, but remember, you are in secret double probation.

Drifter, once upon a time they did NASCAR before the modern era. They also did and do NHRA. They did NASCAR well when it was Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett with Dr. Punch on pit lane. The directors and producers of those broadcasts however are the guys who went on to the Lingner group and Speedvision in the 90's. NOT the morons running ABC/ESPN now.

As for you being older than dirt, I heard you saw Ben Hur when he was putting the rookie stripes on the chariot.....

Not only did they not mention versus but I don't think I heard reference to any other race at all this year.

They mentioned Milwaukee, because they will also be covering it. Go figure.

ABC's broadcast appears to be squarely aimed at the casual viewer that stops by for 5 or 10 minutes of racing. They get to see the leaders, a shot or two of drivers they might recognize like Danica and Helio, and then they switch the channel. For anyone watching more than 5 or 10 minutes, I can't imagine they'd be satisfied with what they saw. And based on the quality of yesterday's broadcast, I don't think ABC has any intention of doing much more than fulfilling the basics of their remaining IRL contract. I wouldn't be surprised to see another network pick it up when it ends in 2012 or so.

Yep, there was absolutely no effort to cover potential passing. Several times they'd cut away as an attempt was coming. They're just going through the motions. Not to mention that the announcers were arguing like 7th graders.
