View Full Version : Consensus of opinion

What is the consensus of opinion amongest those who now frequent this forum as to whether there is any common ground left to maintain this forum as a joint ELMS/ Pickup Truck venture.
IMHO the type of racing has become poles apart with entirely different disiplines, different principles, different rules and governing bodies. Apart from the fact that occasionally the cars all turn left when racing, is to me the only common ground or link.
As I said at the beginning what is the consensus regarding this forum, leave it alone or split it?

IMHO, I say split it, Years ago it was right to have them together but this is no longer the case, Well raised point Chigley
I say split it.....Pickup trucks will stay as pickup trucks.
But no doubt, Ascars...ELMS.....stockcars...days of thunder......will change there name again next year.
Perhaps a rockingham oval forum would be best, so whoevers running the oval the fans can see whats on and happening...if anything.
We personally didnt do the rock last year...but do miss it and will venture back this year...hopefully.... its still the best circuit in uk but vastley underused as an oval.

leave it.

your the ones who wanted to have pickups in the forum title. I don't see no harm in leaving it, it gives a chance for people who's interested in both formulas or people who are involved in both formulas to have a look at one site instead of opening one and then opening another.

Split it up
As Rockingham as an oval is dying, the numbers in pick ups are struggling and it was my idea to have us as a joint forum then we should probrobly be our own forum again.
Split it, see ya

Its spelt sonny aint it? Not sunny! Oh dear. Never mind qualifyings on and buttons gonna be on pole.
well chiggers you really do know how to get a topic going mate ha ha! as for the forum??? prob best to l;eave it for now although there is good reasons for both sides to go their own way now! and true the visiting public in the grandstands was very poor last time i looked, and was considerably better with the stock cars running there! even with the good close racing from the pick ups recently the crowd is very poor IMHO! so please yourselfs, chigley you seem to be easy to get involved in controversy!

not been here for a while - but no change, still digging at each other? lol
so what is the connection now between Pickups and ASCAR/SCSA/errr
nothing as far as i can see, so split the forums
with little common ground, i was tempted to say split it but with so few contributors it seems hardly worth it. perhaps one day the common ground will be re-established and this forum will predominantly have discussions about the actual racing.
i think due to the Camso tie up that there are a few more visitors these days but yes its not like the old days, nothing is im afraid.

I say split it, ascars are away on to a good thing now and have no ties with pick ups or rockingham so they should have there own forum, and shuve rockingham and that little irish twit running it up your arse.
And yes i know chigley will probably put in a disbute about my language on here, but hey i will still sleep tonight. As for rockingham the last time i was there, there were more men working on the new road that runs through rockingham than there were fans, and it was a sunday!

Ok, Genuine question here, i had some time away from the sport, i was still involved back home at the garage just not at the meetings, in that time the whole SCSA/ASCAR call it what you will kind of went bad, I did not really ask waht happend at the time, Now just from reading this thread some people seem to very much dislike Rockingham, So my question, Did Rockingham play some part in the downfall of the afore mentioned series? Please dont waste time with sarcstic answers as it is a genuine question. Thanks

During the hayday, Rockingham owned the a lot of the cars and leased them to the teams. When they stopped funding it, the series fell apart.

i tend to use to use the forum to see what all the people i know from Rockingham are up too and what they have to say for themselves..... easier for me if it's one forum... but i don't give a rats arse!!! As a fans forum its of little use these days

At this moment in time, my intention is to keep both series on the same board. As Bob says, it's easier to keep tabs on things when everything is in one place - especially for those of us who enjoy both series and still like to keep our fingers in all the pies.
If the board gets split, there probably won't be enough traffic to sustain either, so everyone loses out.
United we stand, divided we fall flat on our faces. ;)

Nice to see that some of the forum's members have learnt the eloquent art of informed discussion and debate.

Why all the acrimonious posts all of a sudden? If people can't be polite to each other even if they don't agree, then personally I'd rather see the forum go altogether.
In the long term I think a split makes sense - ELMS may well be a short oval series for the foreseeble future, whereas the pickups appear to be going back to a mainly circuit based championship, so there's not exactly a lot of common ground.

its an ascar forum. Pickups just crashed it later on. So if you want to talk about little 2 litres i'm sure you can find a forum somewhere.

Ascar Forum?? I thought you were now ELMS or something? and just looking back through the posts it appears to be a lot more of a pickup forum than an ascar forum. I personally have no problems with the V8's.

As a Rep for the European Late Model Series I would be quite happy to see this become the Pick-up Truck forum and have nothing to do with us. You people all do more harm than good with your constant bickering. If anybody wants me, I'll be in ten-tenths.

United we stand, divided we fall flat on our faces. ;)
If only Sonny realised that's what's happening - for his beloved Pickups to survive long term, they need the V8's as part of "The Show". I'm sure that his worry was that the V8's would have picked themselves up, and been a much bigger series than the Pickups standing firmly on it's own feet, but hey, what the heck, just as long as both flourished, what would it have mattered.
As for the board, well, does it really matter?
There are other forums that have Stockcar racing sections (ten-tenths for one).
Just my two bobs-worth.
well chiggers you should have known the effect it would have when poking that stick into that hornets nest of a topic! unfortunately mate you really dont know all the goings on in the past mate as per the rock!!

Can you be serious? Chigley is famous at The Rock, and has been since the early days.
I was at the very, very first meeting held there, but I bet you don't know me either?
And I certainly don't remember any dogs being there :)

to think people on here are all interested in either oval or pick ups or V8's, yet they find it difficult to string a decent conversation together without trying to strangle each other verbley!

Watch yourself, gentlemen. Would you please refrain from whacking each other with handbags, it is *most* unbecoming.
We are all entitled to our opinions, trouble is, what with being a particularly passionate bunch of folks about our racing, it's easy to get hot under the collar.
I think because of the nature of the original ASCAR, it brought together peeps from all different kinds of racing backgrounds under a common umbrella - something that's probably never been done before. I came into oval racing and ASCAR and PUT in particular, from watching GT racing. We're a fairly disparate bunch of folks at the best of times, but could everyone please kindly show some respect for people whose views are not your own.

Fred, apologies for the quaint turn of phrase that is occasionally used on this forum, its mostly passion but can be misunderstood.
You ask who am I? Please read my profile.
First up I am a passionate Rockingham supporter, it's a tremendous venue and above all a place that provides entertainment. Full stop. I am, only ever have been and only ever will be (I believe) a motor racing marshal with no ties, affiliations nor direct connections to the circuit, organisers, coordinators etc ....
I do and will continue to criticise/complain about anything incorrect or unjust. I will in a reasoned polite manner state an opinion and also have no qualms about putting into words what I know other people have been thinking.
Some of the more passionate guys on here don't appreciate it but if it needs saying, say it in a polite, considered manner.

Bloody hell its been quite animated in here, hasnt been this much fun in ages :)
I say keep us combined on here. Its the v8's that really interest me and im most unlikely to go to the rock just too watch 2 short pickup races but nevertheless i still like to keep up to date with whats going on in pickup world and this is a good place to read all about it.Now if the pickups were to race 3 times on a sunday then maybe that will get me back there,so how about trying that?
didnt realise i'd put the thumbs down on the screen mate ooops!
