Sharp into the wall. Car torn up badly.

Foyt rubbed the wall early but hasn't been out since.

Sharp tearing up his car could be bad news since he has to qualify this weekend.

Danica was 5th quickest today. She is well on her way to the pole position tomorrow!

Um. No she isn't. She is well on her way to 5th according to practice times.

I'm not saying that this is the case, but curt cavin brought up an interesting point on his blog that Penske may not be dominant team tomorrow, that TCG or AGR may not have shown their entire hand during practice. It certainly appears that Penske is fastest, but I would not be the least surprised if Dario and Dixon were on the front row, also not surprised if Danica was there. TK's car does seem a bit lost though.

From TK on Twitter, new car, engine, trans, tomorrow....

Yeah, I just saw that on TK's twitter as well. Honestly I've only been following the IRL closely since 2005, but I am kind of surprised at how different "spec" cars can be, even with the same setup and on the same team. TK's car was a step behind both Marco and Danica's on either the engine, tranny, or who knows what. The factories build these parts within a very small tolerance, but clearly there are still variations in build that can affect performance. I read somewhere that the big teams actually buy many of the same parts for this reason, to weed out the best in the batch. As a side note, I thought this would be TK's year at Indy. Not looking too promising though.

I know the basic design of the cars has been the same since the 2003 season. I'm wondering if any new chassis have been built recently. Maybe some of the older cars are showing their age with chassis flex and other aspects of structural integrity.

I used to build model airplanes and I completed a few of Monogram's 1/48 F-14 Tomcat kits. I noticed that some kits just seemed to "come together" while one or two kits just didn't seem to "fit well" during the build process, even though they're the same kit.

Maybe it's the same with racecars. From books I've read it seems there are a lot more "hand on" processes (setting the carbon fiber sheets, baking the chassis, etc) in the building of a formula car compared to a passenger car assembled on an assembly line. Even though the formula is "spec", not all cars are equal.

Um. No she isn't. She is well on her way to 5th according to practice times. Many of the quick times were with a "tow". But TK's 223 in Marco's car was by himself, so at least some of the AGR cars are quick, so they should be in the top 11. You have to get by the red cars to get the pole.
