View Full Version : Carroll talking with IRL and F-1 teams

According to numerous reports Adam Carroll, fresh off his A1GP championship is talking to several teams in F-1 and apparently more than one IRL team, and those negotations might be a bit more serious from what I'm reading.

Carroll, who also has vast GP2 experience, was in phenomenal form throughout the campaign and is rumoured to be on course to earn an F1 race seat for the 2010 campaign, possibly with the proposed Lola team.
The Portadown racer, however, is also being heavily linked with a possible move to the Indy Racing League but, either way, Carroll’s progression would make Gallagher glow with pride.
“If Adam was to launch his career into IRL or F1, we’d be the first people to congratulate him and support him because, after two years with us, it would be a great result for him to go upwards into competing in races like the Indy 500 or in Formula 1 events,” Gallagher told setanta.com.

This is why its great the split ended. The IRL, probably for the first time in its existance, is being looked at as a viable, high-profile career option. Carroll is among the top of the non F-1 drivers in Europe right now, and the fact that the Indy 500 is being mentioned in the same breath as F-1 does wonders for the series' crediblity.

I hope he gets something somewhere, he's a great driver. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have too much sponsorship and I'm a little concerned that he'll go the way of Pantano.

I'll be perfectly honest here, I've rated Carroll for quite a while now and followed his progress.

I would SERIOUSLY doubt anyone in F1 is looking at him straight away for a race seat. More likely, they would want him to do a year in GP2 first. However I never saw that 'sparkle' in his previous GP2 attempts that his other results would suggest he has.

I think the now reunited IndyCar is a viable alternative to GP2 for drivers on the career ladder, HOWEVER I'm far from convinced someone would make the step from IndyCars straight into an F1.

But, on the plus side, having drivers with 'recognised' names like Carroll will certainly make me pay more attention to IndyCar (currently I watch about every other race), and that surely can only be a good thing :D

An Irishman in F1 again. Or even the IRL.

Good luck to him. I watched the final race in A1 Grand Prix and he was brilliant.

He has been brilliant all season long... no matter what career option he chooses, best of luck to him

Errr He's done GP2 already. Didn't he say he had enough of it?

Honestly, I'm an A1GP hater but if his accolade makes people stand up and take notice then all the better. I really hope he goes on to better things. I followed him since F3 and deserves to be racing at top level motorsports.

Yeah, he's been in and out of the GP2 washing machine and is looking for something new. If Viso and Conway can come over, so can Carroll.

Who said Carroll was among the top non F1-drivers in Europe? Guy never did anything extraordinary in Gp2....

I think he could be a good replacement for Mutoh at AGR. He has the skills to fit into a big-3 team. However, I'd rather see a third American in at AGR who has a shot to win the races, someone like J.R. Hildebrand.

^^^^ What he said.

It's criminal that drivers of the calibre of Carroll and Pantano are without rides in a top-level, non-gimmicky series. They'd both go great in the #7 AGR car for instance.

Probably even better then Mutoh in the #27. As far as I'm concerned, Kanaan is #1, Micro is #2, Ms. Hospenthal is #3, and Godzilla is #4.

I quite like Mutoh. He's quite racy even if he can be the stereotypical Japanese banzai-kamikaze driving style.

Danica needs her character reformed and needs to rid of her spoilt Princess persona and needs to be brought back down to earth. She really is taking her AGR seat for granted. A year or two at Panther will teach her a lesson.

She has been very well behaved this year. Her PR staff have gotten a hold of her and sent her to proper lady school. She has had the chance to absolutely lose it and blow a gasket on TV multiple times but has refrained, which I enjoyed seeing. I am not a fan of Danica, however, I don't find myself hating her as much as usual due to her good behavior.

As for Mutoh, he has done nothing for me this season. He has one top ten, and as far as I'm concerned, every AGR driver should have atleast 3 top tens in 3 races so far. He has been a disapointment so far this season.

Carroll's definitely a talented guy but I think i'd rate diResta above him and he seems to have little chance of an F1 seat either. Not sure he'd go to IRL being a Merc-backed driver.

I won't dispute your post as you seem to be at the events a lot and would know this better than me. But as a fan who's been watching on TV I don't see much of a difference. Maybe the tantrums are less volatile, but in St. Pete she still insisted on forcing a confrontation with Matos when it's wiser to let emotions cool and talk about it in private afterward. In LB, instead of being happy with a deserved, but rather fortunate 4th place, all she could do is whine about her teammate Kanaan crossing the line on the pit exit and she should be third. When things don't go the way she thinks they should, she still lacks the fortitude to handle disappointment with any sort of poise and class.

Oh I wish I could be at many events, however, the best I can do is follow on TV.

I think she is handling herself a little bit better. She is no princess yet, but she is working on it.

That seems to be the belief around the blogging community as well, that she is working hard to keep her image decent. Probably has to do with the fact this is a contract year, and she needs a sponsor for 2010.
