Sorry I disagree, but guess it's due to the islands being an autonomy.

Looks a stunning island though, I am growing fond of island events

The tobacco question is very sensitive. The European Union explicitly prohibits tobacco advertising in all the states members.
Madeira has a tobacco company and has its own production of tobacco but in their Azores factory. Because of this the Madeira governement is alloweding publicity of Madeiran tobacco brands this year, something that was not allowed this year by the Azorean goverment so the two cars of Além Mar Team appeared with white rectangles instead "Além Mar" in the Azores Rallye.

At the moment the Madeira tobacco company does not support any team in the Island championship. Maybe they will support the organization but not a team in particular.
Perhaps Fernando Peres and Ricardo Moura will appears with "Além Mar" brand, maybe ...

Hello,

I'm new here on the forum. :)

We have planned our trip to Madeira to see the IRC rally (and also 2 weeks holiday) this year. We were on the Madeira rally 2 years ago too, my father-in-law lives in Funchal. Beautiful rally on a super location. ;)
Now I'm looking for some good (spectacular) places to see the rally. We found a few good places, but I'm sure that there are more (and better). Can you give me some tips for the different specials please?

Hehe! The car has been modified for rallying by Sports&You. Also they prepare the Porsche for Mex, and the Subaru's N14 and N12 of Barroso Pereira and Pedro Rodrigues.

Anyway, the car is also used in track racing, like the Spanish GT champ or the Portuguese Resistance Championship.

I had a little talk with António Costa (Zé Pedro co-driver) and he told me that the car it wasn't 100% ready for rallying. A lot of work in the suspension have to be done. But, It looks really cool, and the V12 sound blow my ear away!

I'ts not a bad entry list, but for sure isn't fantastic.

Half of S2000 cars, are driven by slow drivers... with no chance to fight for a top place.

I doubt about the participation of Julien Maurin with a Skoda Fabia S2000...

And I hope Fiat can change their lucky and performance here in Madeira with a victory of Basso or even Rossetti, but for sure it will be really difficult against official Peugeot drivers.

It's a shame to not see Witman Jr. here in Madeira or another "good" driver. (for the show) :)

It's a shame too to not see any big name from the old times in the entry list... like, Snijers, Aghini, Longhi, Biasion, Tabaton, Loubet, Drogmans, Liatti, etc etc... even if some of them are slow nowadays.... It's 50th edition of the rally and 30 edition in ERC, last year, Paulo Fontes (from the organization) said that they would do a big effort to bring some "historic" drivers to the rally, and I don't see any historic driver... it's a shame :(

Let's see if some driver will appear in some celebration of the rally, as a guest, but without any car...

Can somebody tell me what the changes are in the stages compared to last year. I don't see too many changes. Looks like Serra d'Agua is stage Rosario of 2008 and a litlle longer at start. Lameiros looks like Serra d'Agua from last year and litlle longer at finish. Are there any more changes compared to last year? Thanks in advance. If anybody has the stages in Google Earth, that would be awesome also. ;)

The rally is absolutely the same. The only changes were in Serra d'Agua with the same name last year, and Lameiros which was the "Rosário Stage" last year. The stage is the same a little bit more longer than previous years.

Serra d'Agua SS6 and SS10-they will run on Friday and starts from South to North of the island.(2008-Serra d'Agua)

Lameiros SS16 and SS20-They will run on Saturday and starts from North to the South of the island.(2008-Rosário)

If Julien Maurin will be on Madeira with a Skoda Fabia S2000, it will be with a new team called Skoda Rally Team Italia. On a Frech forum it stats that Mauro Fornaris is the teammanager and have many mecanics from Misubishi Rally Art and is formed to support Piero Longhi. Julien signed for 6 rallies including Le Mont Blanc and Antibes and an option for the RAC. He has doen a test near Sanremo

I can not agree with the mind that half of S2000 drivers are gentelman drivers-I see three, four, others however are serious rally drivers but everyone just can not be so quick as Voullioz, Rossetti, Basso, Meeke and other factory drivers...

Yes, I know, but this year and for now it's very hot at any place. The sakedown results were worst than last edition!

Again this proves Meeke is an allround and super talent. Why did he never get a decent WRC drive? What a shame, but happy to see him in IRC!

Hotter than last year?

Magalhaes 0.2 secs quicker than Meeke with Basso, Voullioz, Pascoal, Rosetti, Loix and Fontana et al in the next 6 places.

Mirek

Yes, probably. The colder and the more humid the air is, the better for engines.
