Meeke is almost half a minute from Basso.
First time at Madeira is not easy at all.

It seems Freddy was right. Kronos guys look rather slower than they should be.

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 10:02
Meeke is almost half a minute from Basso.

Yes, he is exactly at 1 sec/km of pace of Basso. We will see what is pace of best Pugs, namely Camacho, Magalhaes and Vouilloz. :) Good to see the Fiat's doing good here tough.

Neither it was in Ypres, and therefore... :p :

Mirek

I wouldn't say "must". It is possible because Madeira always was Basso's strong event. Last year he was also fastest but didn't win because of wrong tyre choice.

EDIT: Where is the post I was answering?

Times frozen after Fontana

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 10:19
Strange it looks like if Fernando Peres went off the road, disturbing many drivers who would get notional time :s
Any news ????

Luis Pacheco
31st July 2009, 10:22
Peres is running. The times are again slow.

Sorry Mirek, deleted my post.
I agree with you, Madeira is proving tough for the first timers with only 2 recce passes etc. Long way to go.

Yep it was just time not coming for a few drivers

Tlusťák retired after SS2 because of broken throttle cable.

Rerun of SS2 and 3, I guess it should go better for Meeke :p :

Should be well on the run now, expecting first times soon. First run trough they set about ten minutes to do the stage. :D

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 11:35
Basso 3.3 sec in front of Rosetti.

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 11:40
Camacho second now on stage 4, at 3 sec of the pace of Basso, Magalhaes is only fourth at 4"3 and Rosetti doing good time at 3"3. ;)

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 11:41
Vouilloz was 2nd fastest :)

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 11:46
Vouilloz was 2nd fastest :)

Yes Tom, but third consecutive besttime for Basso who is really doing great job. Meeke and Rosetti seem to improve their times a lot on second run trough the stages. Staus quo at the overall classification. :)

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 11:48
Wilks and Maurin are both loosing another half a minute, really disappointing for both of them. :(

Tom206wrc

SS5 running too, normally ;)

Wilks and Maurin are both loosing another half a minute, really disappointing for both of them. :(

Wilks, I think it is the car; Maurin the driver.

It makes the Proton performance on WRC Rallye Ireland all the more surprising, I wonder what a 207 or Fabia could have done there?!

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 12:14
First times SS5 should be soon now

Edit: Rossetti has his time :)

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 12:15
Rosetti is trough stage 5, good time.
;)

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 12:16
But Basso 9s faster :D

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 12:16
Basso is another 6.9 sec faster then his first run trough.

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 12:19
Magalhaes 8s slower than Basso, it's over for a Peugeot win, to my mind :mark:

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 12:22
Meeke is improving his time by almost 18 seconds compared to first run trough the stage!!!

Tom206wrc

Meeke wins a position from Loix ;)

Yes Tom, it seems that Freddy is not able to find the right pace in this rally. :(

karlzoro
31st July 2009, 12:37
When I see the times i think that the Abarth is designed for the Madeira rally...
Last year almost the same scenario: Abart not impressive in the first part of the championship and on Madeira they were on the pace...Vouilloz did win there but it was because of a wrong tyre choice of Basso...if the rally was 1ss longer then Basso would have won...
and now the same scenario: not very impressive in the championship but on the Madeira island :s mokin:

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 12:45
We have the feeling we arrive at the end of leg one, with the intensive action on the the four first stages, but error: still eight stages to go before end of leg

noel157
31st July 2009, 12:49
I suspect Loix's car is set up the same as Meeke's which does not suit the stages. Hopefully Kronos can sort it out.

Sulland
31st July 2009, 12:51
So far in my book the situation is:

Suprises:
Basso
Camacho

Disapoints:
Meeke
Wilks
Loix
Maurin

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 12:56
Why Camacho a surprise, Sulland ??? Do you remember Madeira 2008 ????

I would rate in good surprise Miguel Nunes too, 8th overall in "international outing"(and 2nd Madeira driver) for the first time in S2000 ;)

It isn't Nunes first time in the 207 but it is his first IRC rally
He drives the Madeira championship with 207..last year I found him very spectacular with his S1600..but certainly can't compete with Camacho...

Tom206wrc

Four stages coming up now with no service allowed between them, totalizing 52,73 Kms. Then they go into service before running those four stages again. Let's see if it will bring any major changes to the classification. ;)

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 13:41
SS6 about to start(if not started already :p : )

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 13:49
We should get the first times now(Rossetti+Basso)

Edit: OK for Rossetti ;)

Basso 5.7s faster ;)

wwbroe

Edit: Tom is way faster then myself.

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 13:55
Even if clothe, Magalhaes can't completely reach Basso's pace :mark:

Very close tough between Basso, Camacho and Magalhaes, only 0.3 sec between the three of them on this stage. ;)

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 13:57
Meeke again faster than Loix and only 6.6s from Rossetti ;)

Luis Pacheco
31st July 2009, 13:59
Good times for Camacho and Magalhães. They ran this stage few weeks ago at the last rally for the madeira championship.

Meeke had a little off and broke the window from his side.

Technical / mechanical problem I think.

Madeira allows Superally, no?

Tom206wrc

SS7 starts soon ;)

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 14:14

Engine but is not sure yet by the team.

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 14:15
Engine.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Luis Pacheco
31st July 2009, 14:20

Yes. But for Sousa if the problem is the engine he cannot by the regulations change it for tomorow.

A think Magalhães will win for the first time.

Luis Pacheco
31st July 2009, 14:28
Magalhães 0,7 slow.

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 14:34
First decent time for Loix, coming little closer to Meeke. ;)

karlzoro
31st July 2009, 14:35
@ wwbroe: don't forget that Loix drove a scratch last year on "cidade de santana"...but I don't think he will be able to do this again in 2009
I think that Magalhaes or Camacho will be able to beat Basso on a stage...but the question is: wich SS

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 14:39
Next stage will be live allready in few minutes. The rythm is good like that. :D

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 14:41
SS8 to start soon ;)

noel157

I guess Basso only lost .9 to Bruno so maybe not pushing (at least on that stage). But good to see an Abarth leading for first time this season.
Not a great stage for Meeke.

Tom206wrc
31st July 2009, 15:04
Guy Wilks ????

Edit: OK was just a time problem ;)

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 15:05
To the people who know this rally well, are these stages different from the ones we had this morning? Are they maybe a litlle faster? I am just wondering because Loix is setting more decent times now.

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 15:15
Start of the last stage of this group of stages will start in few minutes. These four stages will be run again after that.

pucky54

Freitas is flying. The Proton must be in trouble, last stage Wilks lost 2 secs a Km to Magalhães. Maurin's Skoda very slow too.

1 minute late and 10s penalty for Wilks...I presume mechanical pb too :mark:

About Maurin, he's more a gravel driver(interesting pace in the Grande Punto on french gravel championship last year) and it's only his second event on tarmac

Tom206wrc

Solowow also lost a position to Fontana ;)

Luis Pacheco

Basso makes the difference but the engine evolutions from Abarth for Madeira are helping I think to make this gap between the Pug´s.

pucky54

The Abarths are always fast on Madeira. We will see in Zlin what they can do!

Tom206wrc

Audimadgeoff
31st July 2009, 16:24
How come Wils is so much off the pace in this one ? it was the same on the last tarmac event - Ypres - the gearing on the Proton is not great for corners, factor that in with his lack of experience on the rally and I guess that accounts for most of the loss of time![/*:m:13catc0p]

Tom206wrc

Retirement for Maurin and Nunes :(

What was the reason Tom?

wwbroe
31st July 2009, 19:20
So, at the end of first day of really nice rallying:

1. Basso
2. Magalhaes at 16"0
3. Camacho at 29"4
4. Vouilloz at 49"7
5. Rosetti at 1'03"6
6. Meeke at 1'07"7
7. Loix at 1'11"8
8. Fontana at 4'01"4
9. Solowow at 5'05"1
10. Cavigioli at 6'21"3

Edit: Nunes is still in the rally and 8th overall at 3'13"5

Hopefully we will see the same level of battle tomorrow, i will be folowing it closely. :D

It was really interesting first day, small gaps between first seven drivers. It seems that Punto is really "made" for that kind of rally. Everbody thought that this year Punto is one step behind Peugeot and Škoda, but on this rally is Abarth really fast.

All 3 Peugeot's S1600 are out of the rally with mechanical problems, that is not good for you Tom. But still you have 8 Pug's in the top 10.

I do hope though that this marks a bit of an Abarth comeback for the rest of the year. I still think the car isn't as fast as the 207 or Fabia, but the first half of the season hasn't really suited Basso so much and Alen has been useless.

This happened last year too when Basso was much more competitive in the second half of the season.

It was never in the original plan. Maybe they didn't think they could be in such a strong championship position when they planned the season...

But you are right, as far as I am aware Kopecky has never been there and there are some very fast locals on Madeira, good one to miss maybe. I hope they do all the remaining rounds now.

No idea about the tech. datas of his 207, all I know is that Millet totally lacks experience on this event and in international rallies in general...I can't say what I think about it for these reasons :mark:

If the 207 was driven by an experienced Madeira/portuguese driver(like the Clio R3s are)would be easier to get an opinion
