I`ve suprised myself, I`m absolutely loving this game, it`s excellent. I`m more of a rally fan but with the dissapointing effort of the new WRC game I`ve found myself emmerced in F1. I need to learn the tracks and find some speed though and hopefully get myself playing online soon.

Yeah, once I got the sound and graphics sorted out properly this game has been worth it. Really enjoying the online side of things.
Had some great races last night.
@X-ecutioner, apparently that braking properly I had at Spa was something that does happen, the brakes don't lock so much in qualifying but in the race they are much more sensitive. Apparently...
Still can't get over the qualifying session at Melbourne. Here I was talking 4 posts ago about 1:26s being amazing and we drop into the low 1:24s! And pole swapping between the 3 of us so often and eventually 0.179s between all 3 was crazy. Pity the race wasn't better.

Well, the race was good for me since I won it. :p Man, that qualy session was amazing. I got pole by 0.05 seconds or something. I would have dipped into 1:23 if not for a stupid mistake at Turn 13.
You were a second faster than me in qualifying at Spa. A real pity that brake problems hit you in the race. We could have had a real battle for those 3 laps.

Ugh! The holding in the pit box is getting ridiculous now. Went from first to 23 at Catalunya sue to being held in the pits...codies really need to sort that out in the next version

I was trying the game while beeing in Germany and already then spotted some bugs on the game. Still its a decent game but those bugs are really ruining the game a bit and hopefully most of them will be fixed.
Also them should really add one extra extra hard level to the game. As many has said single player bug fixing is pretty pointless if you still keep to drive into pole and lap times from 5-7 seconds quicker per lap compared to cpu at the hardest level.
What comes to online some things also there should be fixed. Had a race on my friends name at online and on the first corner, got a hit from behind and went straight without any change of making to the track and got a penalty for short cutting.
The game is still very nice to play and I liked it a lot and has been on both at my tests.. At Germany and at my friend. If codies will really fix everything it surely will become way better than it is now.

That was also a big problem with Sony F1 games on the PlayStation 2, for it was pretty easy to be out in front of everyone by lap 5 or 6 on the hardest level.

Had a funny online moment on Friday night - none of the guys here were online so I decided to just jump into any online race and see how I did. Found a race and joined, only to find it was Abu Dhabi which I hadn't even driven around yet! Thought ok I'll just cruise around at the back and learn the track. No chance, the bloody thing sticks me on pole!! So I get a slow start and decide the safest thing is to go straight at T1 just to get out of everyone's way, go onto the run off area and let everyone through, only to be T-boned by 2 other guys in the run off area! Baled out of that race quickly...
Now I'm doing Time Trials of all the tracks so I can learn them so I can at least not look like a complete turkey online. Funny thing, in other F1 games I've always hated Melbourne and Catalunya yet they are actually fun to drive on this one.
What do you guys think of Korea? I find its a frustrating circuit with no real flow and tricky corners everywhere.

I had an entertaining race at Turkey in the Lotus. Qualified 10th and was running in 8th for the first stint with a queue of cars behind me. After my pit-stop I got stuck behind Barrichello and ended up 15th. Trying to pass without ABS and TC is tough. :(

I have been playing F1 2010 for the XBox I got recently, but as usually I keep it on far too easy setting, though halfway through my first season I have discovered that manual gears are the way to go.... I may sometime get around to doing xbox live but at the moment that would involve finding a cable and plugging it in, and I just can't be bothered :p :

Yeah there is a big gain in running manual gears. I've also found that some very small adjustments to the brake balance system really makes a big difference.

Does anyone else think that this feature really isn't needed in this game? Sure, if you drive across a chicane fair enough, but touching a curb with a wheel, or running wide which costs you time anyway doesn't need the lap invalidated. As for "invalidated next lap" WTF?? Its got to the point that if the head of software development for codemasters walked into my living room, I'd probably be on a murder charge.
I'm enjoying the game though, but this really isn't needed IMO.
I know what you mean!
Why is it so hard for them to use the 'two wheels on the track at all times' rule?

When you're sitting in your garage, and you have that small screen in front of you, on PC you can get in it by pressing enter (don't know what it is for PS3 or Xbox). That's where you get to see the timing, weather, track info, R&D etc. The last icon which looks like a gear, it says "car setup" is where you setup your car. On PC you press enter, don't know what it is for PS3 or Xbox, I'm guessing the X on PS3. The videos below will help you out I guess.

What I'm finding helps a lot with the wheel lockups is to set the brake pressure to low and adjust the brake balance to F 49 R 51. In the long race I did last night in Canada I still had a bit of brake lock so it might have been better to run 48 or even 47 at the front. But don't go too drastic in the changes cos it seems that the small changes make a difference.

I also fiddled around with the setup for our race at Montreal, which improved the car somewhat. But I'm gonna refrain from having long races now until they release the patch which will hopefully fix the stupid tyre puncture bug. I didn't even go on gravel, however the first puncture could have been because of all that jostling at the start, because the other guy also got a puncture and retired. He sent me a message afterwards.
At one point it was funny, I was at the back straight in the lead in the opening laps, and I looked back on you and the third fella, you were bumping into each other and going sideways coming out of the hairpin. But good win Bruce, you were banging in some quick laps towards the end. I tried my best but couldn't match you. Gotta find a better setup for Montreal.
After I came back from my break, you were offline, and so I got into three races, all Monaco, against two really stubborn guys. Won all three banging in 1:13 laps, which was a surprise to me.
Bruce D
8th October 2010, 09:09
I might add to my previous comment that thinking about it the tail was coming around a bit going into the hairpin at the end so caution how much brake bias to the rear you use as the fuel loading will change the feeling. Pity you can't adjust the brake bias on the fly like they do in real life, but the adjustment system is a bit slow for it.
@X-ecutioner, er don't you think that dude was a bit rough last night? He hit you a bit at the start and then roughed me up at the hairpin. Every time I tried to avoid him he pulled over more on me. I let him go that time but then on the next lap he got together with you and I pulled alongside you guys and thought what the hell I'll go for it into the next turn and he just turned in so we hit again and he spun off. I backed off to let him go but he was taking forever to recover so I carried on after you. Then you pitted real early but I presume that was because of the puncture so I tried to maintain the gap to him but he was quicker (which made all his hitting tactics really stupid). We both pitted on the same lap and then he disappeared so I just managed the gap to you for a while. Made a mistake at one poiint so I whacked the engine to max revs and did a 1:15 lap and then backed off again cos you disappeared. Was a really boring end to the race, just making sure not to do anything stupid.
Afterwards I did a 3 lapper at Hockenheim with some rather robust guys but I outsmarted them and won that one, then quit for the night cos it was already 30min since you left so I ended it.
I want to do a 3 round mini champ of 3 lappers if possible next time we're online. I agree the longer races are interesting but you keep getting punctures so it's annoying.

That should be fun. Yeah, the longer races are a no-go until the patch fixes this. That guy you talk about did do some stupid things. At the start I was alongside him and had the inside line for the first corner, but he turned right in front of me and tried to block me by brake testing me, so obviously I couldn't do anything but punt him and put him in the grass.
Bruce D
8th October 2010, 09:38
Yeah I was watching that and thinking "why is this guy being so agressive off the start, we have a long way to go here". I got him there and tried to go around the outside of you on the hairpin part but you got a better drive out. Then I got you on the run to the hairpin then locked the brakes and you both next to me and (see previous post)...
BTW What was his message to you afterwards? I was waiting for one to me about my forcefulness on lap 2 but if you play with fire...

He said something like he had to retire because of the puncture and thanks for getting out of the way on my slow lap during qualifying unlike a lot of other guys around etc. Nothing about the wheel banging. :p I think that punt at the start got me my first puncture. Luckily or unluckily the second puncture was right in the middle of the back straight, so I jumped straight into the pits.

Man, I'd love to join you guys, but my time gets more limited by the week! I'm in the States, so I dont think you're awake after I'm off of work. The Multiplayer lobbies really thin out after I get on at 6pm PST (-8 GMT). I have a league to practice for in iRacing, so that limits me even more.
Did some TT's at Shanghai. I'm at 1:33 in the Ferrari, but I think I can shave off another second. I somehow exited the practice and qualy sessions wrong in career mode and all I had left was the race. I only got in 5 laps in Practice and I totally missed the Qually because my son wanted some Cheerios and then TV and then, blah. I exited out (not thinking) and I got no times in. I have to remember to FF to the end of the session and then exit, D'OH!! Oh well, I'll do my career race tonight.

I did a lot of full grid 12 player races yesterday. The first time I mistakenly put all driving assists allowed, and the lobby was filled with idiot rammers. It was a group of I think 3 Spanish guys who consistently kept ramming everyone in the race. Needless to say, I'm NEVER going to do that again.
Next, I hosted a couple of pro races, all driving assists off, had some really close and amazing races against about 4 or 5 guys until I came across a total buffoon dumba$$ Italian guy called ISOoffroad or something. Although he was really fast in the races (doing 1:12 laps at Monaco and 1:41 laps at Spa. I was leading and he was eating 1 second out of me every lap), but kept making mistakes. More importantly he was needlessly aggressive at starts and during overtaking, kept barging and banging into people around him. Spun me around twice in 3 races. And as the icing on the cake, sends me a message after the race telling me to learn fair play. The hypocrisy and audacity of some people.

That is the choice many of them take online. Started a race yesterday at Suzuka, 8 players joined in the lobby. The race was only 5 laps. By the 2nd lap I was way ahead, 3 seconds faster on every sector. They started quitting, and by the third lap all 8 of them quit the race. I crossed the line and was given the default victory because everybody else DNF'ed.

That's what I do whenever I host Monaco online, otherwise the whole track becomes a big destruction zone.

I think it is the quick game modes where you get all of the dicks who ram everyone.
In some of the custom game modes you get people who race properly.

I haven't really come across too many bad people, although apparently I'm "unsporting" - according to someone's rating of me! =P Me thinks it's that dude in Canada who we mentioned earlier in this thread.
Anyway, after owning the game for over 2 weeks, I finally got around to playing some single player stuff on Saturday! Well personally I think most of the people moaning about this game are just being picky. For one I thought the AI was very good and defensive and work well. I knew what to do to avoid the pitstop bug (pit one lap later) and so my races have been smooth. Love the changeable weather and how you can work through all the practice sessions to get towards qualifying and the race. Scored a point in the first race but failed to get into the points in the 2nd race. Hopefully I'll get to the third one soon.

I'm loving the career mode. I like racing my arse off in the Lotus, putting in qualy times for 30+ laps and still only just coming home in 19th place.
My only gripe is that sometimes the A.I is slow in qualifying. I put the Lotus on the front row in Canada (on legendary with zero driver aids). But in the race they were far faster than me.

Yeah, I've see that behavior in career mode, too.
I quallied 4th at Barcelona yesterday. Gonna race when I get home, tonight. I definitely bought the game for the career mode and it's been pretty fun so far. This is the first time I bought a game to race against the AI. I got 9th in Malaysia in a torrential downpour in the Virgin. It's my best achievement in the game so far.
I got iRacing for multiplayer, but I have ventured out a few times and usually set up something after my career race. Melbourne races have been fun so far. May do some at Suzuka tonight.

Career mode is a lot of fun...currently at Force Indiam having graduated from Sauber and leading the championship. I also found the AI much quicker in the race than in qually, especially at Barcelona.
Bruce D
12th October 2010, 06:47
Personally I prefer the idea of them being faster in the race. Not like the Simbin games where they are miles faster in qualifying so you work your butt off to get a good qualifying then drive past everyone by the 2nd lap and die of boredom out front. Ok the best situation is being equal but if I had to choose, the F1 2010 way is the way I'd want it.
About the AI settings - everyone keeps saying they're on Legend AI but mine only goes up to Expert. Is that the same or am I missing something? On that level I'm maybe getting the Lotus into the top 15 and race to 10-12th place, so it's fine, just wondering if they changed the wording for the different release areas.

For a good laugh I spend time reading the CM forums. Just 2 examples from this morning - one guy saying "wow this game is now really great". What did he do? Just switched off all the assists and started driving the game properly. Fancy that...
The 2nd one was another guy going off about how the AI around him always put in amazing lap times just around his pitstops so he drops down the order. I don't know about you guys but I really don't find the time to be looking at laptimes on the screen while I'm driving, it's taking too much brain power to keep the beast on the track. So I'm thinking maybe the AI overtook him cos he wasn't concentrating on driving... ;)

If CM would have been smart and allowed us to have a full online grid there would be plenty of leagues of varying orders of "seriousness levels" which would allow us to escape the havoc that usually is in public online racing.
Oh well. Maybe for 2011?

By first British GP in career mode was quite exciting for me.
I only managed to qualify the Lotus 20th, just behind Trulli. The race day was wet. Everyone started on inters and I had a cracking first lap, climbing up to 13th. I had very good pace in the wet and steadily picked off cars. By lap 6 I was up to 9th, just ahead of Schumacher and Kubica.
I noticed the conditions were improving so I made a gamble to make an early pit stop for slicks. I came out onto the still damp track in last place but I was soon able to catch the backmarkers. I began to rise up the order as other cars pitted. Rosberg came out of the pit-lane side-by-side but I muscled my way past before his tyres got up to temperature. After the pit-stops I was 5th!
As the track got greener the cars around me started to find their true pace. The leading pack of Hamilton, Massa, Vettel and Button began to pull away at a rate of 2 seconds per lap. Behind me a queue of faster cars began to form, led by Rosberg.
I held off Rosberg for 10 laps before I made a mistake on the new loop. Four cars got through but I still managed to hold onto the 9th place for the last 8 laps.
Best race I've had so far.

During the race you can toggle certain settings of the car using the directional pad. You can change the engine map, front wing angle or tyres for your next stop.
I wish you could change brake bias though :s

Had the honour to play F1 2010 at friend's place last weekend. Well, what can I say. What I found truly enjoyable, is the racing of AI. I think it's the best I have ever seen. They really remind real racing drivers, when you compare this to what can be seen in a real F1 race from an onboard camera view. Had several really enjoyable battles on various circuits. Oh, and I may add that I really like especially the last sector of the much-criticized Valencia circuit. Doesn't seem that bad of a track at all. :D

Time trial just isn't any fun is it? The slightest mistake on a lap and it not only invalidates that lap, but the one after, even if its on turn 1. ****ing hopeless.

I can understand the invalidated lap penalty because I think it encourages you to aim for that "perfect" lap, but why they needed to add in the invalidated next lap I have no idea, particularly when you can get it for making a seemingly minor error. That's blummin' annoying!!
When I first got the game I remember trying to set a lap at, IIRC, Yas Marina, and it took me until lap 14 to do so :p Still...it's one way of learning the circuits!!

I had the same problem at Bahrain when I started the career. There is one corner that is deceptively tight and I kept running out wide, it took me hours of "Jarno is faster than you in all three sectors" before I managed to string a lap together.

After struggling on "Hard" level in career mode I dumbed it down to "Medium". I promptly put the HRT on pole at Malaysia and finished 4th :p : . At Shanghai I started 5th on the grid and finished first  .
Is it me, or is there too large a difficulty gap between Hard and Medium? :mark:

@ArrowsFA1 - the penalty system is there to prevent people shortcuting the last corner and gaining speed into the next lap, but it's active throughout sector 3 so it ruins your lap.
@schmenke - it was stated on CM forum a little while ago that there is quite a gap between the difficulty levels. Maybe a patch will sort this out.

The first corner of any race seems to end in exactly the same way in quick game mode. You break for the corner and then you are punted a 100 yards along with everyone else across the grass as the people who have no idea how to play the game choose a destruction derby instead.
One way to try and avoid this is set up your own lobby and change the settings so that the highest ranked players start at the back. That way the muppets who haven't found the brakes yet are at the front and sail off at the first corner, conveniently getting out of the way of everyone who actually wants to race :p

My copy arrived yesterday and I just got enough time to set it all up and play one race weekend: Bahrain, medium difficulty, 20 laps, HRT, career mode.
I put the car 7th on the grid and comfortably won the race. I think I'll need to up it to 'hard' difficulty level to enjoy more of a challenge. Also, must get online racing going.

I'm using a normal XBOX 360 controller on legend difficulty without any assists and I regularly get the Lotus into Q2 and occasionally into the points.
What is the highest anyone has got on the time trail leaderboards? I was about 250th at Silverstone and I'm quick enough to get into the top 200 at Hockenhiem. On Forza I can't get anyhere near the top.

Driving for Virgin F1, on hard difficulty but with automatic gears - won the race in Shanghai which suggests I should probably try Expert. Not heard of Legend mode? Where is this?
Tried online, won my first race last night - in Valencia, first time I'd driven there! Did a lap of Shanghai on time trial but was 5 seconds off the best! Need more practice :)

It seems today is noob day. Nobody wants to get in a race with all driving assists off and manual gears. I hosted about 4 or 5 different circuits, people came, looked at the game settings and left. Then got into some games, easily won almost all of them.
The worst was I think at Monaco, where it was 23 laps. 11 guys started, I was leading and starting to pull a gap to the second guy, who quit after 3 laps, and one by one all of them left by lap 9. It's really, and I mean REALLY rare to find good racing online.

I have 'expert' difficulty as well, but my game has come from India. Having easily won a race on 'medium', I did round 2 of career mode on hard today. I got to Q3 in the HRT and was 7th on the grid [17th due to a penalty though]. I know there was more pace to be found that could have popped me up a place or two, but I kept invalidating laps for corner cutting, when on a good run.
The game is going mostly well for me, so far. But there are still a few things that bug me. My wheel [Logitech DFP] has an annoying dead zone of about 15 degrees, which I don't suffer with in other games. For some reason, the 'advanced wheel settings' menu is locked so I can't select it. Not sure why though :s I'm sure I could tinker with settings there, if only I could access it.
Secondly, the gear changes are slightly delayed from when I push the flappy paddle. This is a little frustrating as I rev out on occasion because of it.
Finally, the pit-lane procedure is too bare. Having played games like rFactor and Race07, I'm used to completely controlling the car down the pit-lane and pulling into the pit-box myself. It's odd not having to do this.
In conclusion, I find it a thoroughly enjoyable game and one which will award a lot of lifespan. But it doesn't hold a patch on rFactor so far as authentic sim racing experiences go.
---> I did some online racing today. I'm not a fan of the quick sessions. I did two which weren't very enjoyable. Then, I tried to join some proper sessions and the server wouldn't connect for some reason.

You can access it! When you're in the driving controls menu, it shows options like Keyboard, your wheel name if it's connected, and Custom. Select Custom and then the "Advanced wheel settings" option won't be greyed out anymore. Of course, you'll have to define all the controls for your wheel, but that hardly takes a minute.

I think the solution for that is to go into My F1 -> Audio -> and change the Audio Drivers option from Rapture to Software.

Decided to up to 'legend' difficulty in my career and things are looking a bit more real!! I had qualified & finished in the top 10 with Lotus in Bahrain, but in Australia I managed P21 in qualifying. The race was looking better; running 16th and chasing down Buemi before the pitstops, but after that I was making mistakes in an effort to get back to that position and eventually a spin lead to a puncture on the penultimate lap. Scraped home 21st. My team-mate Trulli was a DNF for some reason so not a good day for Lotus!!!
Still, the game gets more enjoyable and challenging now that it seems I've got the difficulty level right.

Spinning at Rascasse at Monaco on lap 16 whilst leading the race and watching as the entire field plough into your sorry ass is mentally challenging in the extreme. Yeah "good" race equals every time Bruce put in a decent lap time X-ecutioner proceeded to take 1.5sec out of him! So our race in Hockenheim the other day must have been "sensational" seen as I was taking 2sec a lap out of you? :p

 Damn that first Hockenheim race was weird. I was breaking late, still getting the apex and pretty much nailing every corner, and it said -0.7 on every sector, and I was like WTF? I think there are some intermittent brake problems that happen with custom setups. I used a different setup for our last race there and was going fine. Don't know what happened to you in that one. Gravel?

In the case of the first race: 1) I had a perfect setup, 2) I was so ticked for having spun on the first lap that I was just driving the crap out the car to catch you.
In the case of the 2nd race: 1) not perfect setup (not even close), 2) drove like a moron trying to overcompensate for it.
And no, default brake settings are not good.

Some good news on the patch development side: http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/432050-f1-2010-patch-news.html
Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since we last updated on the forthcoming F1 2010 patch so here is where things are at currently…
The team are hard at work, and have been since launch, building the patch. We’ve focussed on both fixes to the game and a number of gameplay improvements based on your feedback. Once the process has finished, we can then release the patch for submission which will take an additional couple of weeks until it is available for release. Here is a quick overview of the main issues which we’re addressing:
1. Corrupt Save Games - We have identified an over-zealous anti-cheating check that manifested as falsely identified corrupt saves, specifically the ones relating to practice and R&D upgrades, the save-games should now load without issue. However if any of you are experiencing corrupt saves outside of this then please continue to send your PS3 save game files to us (Xbox360 & PC saves aren’t of any use to us) and we can test these against the latest patch to see whether all instances of this issue have now been fixed
2. AI not pitting in dry races where a mandatory pit stop was required (20% or more) – This has been fixed.
3. Player held in pit-stop too long – We’ve improved exit logic so that it isn’t too cautious in holding players during a pit-stop.
4. Puncture frequency reduced – The likelihood of players suffering punctures has been reduced.
5. Pit-stop lock-ups - Fixed several instances which caused the pit crew to lock-up and not be able to service the cars.
6. Automatically updating race strategy – Selecting prime tyres from the tyre menu (over default option) now updates the strategy so that the pit-crew assign options during the pit stop as opposed to re-attaching another set of primes (in a dry race of 20% or more).
7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.
In addition to these fixes we’ve also made improvements to the game based on your forum feedback:-
1. OSD changes – showing split times rather than gap to leader – We’ve changed how the OSD timing information functions so that split times are now displayed on the OSD, showing race time and race time differences to the other cars – I.e. how far ahead/behind are at a sector boundary.
2. AI affected more by damage received – Damage sustained by an AI’s car will have a greater effect their handling characteristics, effectively slowing damaged AI down more. AI cars that cannot maintain a racing speed will naturally yield to faster cars & come into the pits for repairs. As before, If they receive too much damage, they will retire from the race.
3. AI yielding to other cars when not on flying lap in qualifying - Improved AI behaviour to move off the racing line or out of the player’s way when the player is on a flying lap.
4. Increased wheel support – Increased wheel support and force feedback tweaks (where applicable) for the following wheels; Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback (officially supported), Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience (officially supported), Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Pro Clutch (not officially supported but will work), Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S & GT3 RS2 (both officially supported).
5. Wet weather improvements - Rebalanced graphical and handling effect of cars driving on a wet track - the level of wetness has been increased as well as tyre trails being made more prominent.
6. Improved Damage Modelling – Tweaks to the damage system so that more damage is visible / received during lesser impacts.
7. Next lap invalidated time trial logic - In time trial the next lap is no longer invalidated for any offence committed in the 3rd sector. It is calculated per track and is predominantly based on the final corner.
8. AI: Driver Behaviours - Addressed some issues in driver behaviour balancing that were causing occasionally unrealistic finishing positions.
There have also been several PC specific improvements as well:-
1. PC 'replay saving' and playback – You will be able to save out the files to replay them later or share them with others.
2. DX11 – The F1 2010 patch will enable the game to run on DX11. All of the graphical improvements are configurable from graphical options when in DX11. Specifically, "ultra" settings for 'shadows' and 'postprocess'. (These options require a lot of processing power, and are only recommended for high-end graphics cards.
3. Eyefinity Support – F1 2010 now supports 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 monitor display setups (minimum requirement of 3 x monitors)
4. Optimisations – We have made better use of multi-core processors in general, which will lead to better framerates on higher end machines.
5. Additional Support - Support for SandyBridge processors, which also adds support for currently available 'modern' processors, like Core i7, which wasn't correctly detected previously.
This list is not exhaustive of the issues being addressed in the patch but a snap shot of the key improvements. Please keep your feedback coming though as it is invaluable both for the work on the patch and for the design of F1 2011.
Once the patch goes into submission, we’ll try to give you guys a heads up as to when it will be live and ready to download as soon as we know.
Thanks for your continued support & feedback.
The F1 2010 Development Team.
I'm not going to touch the career mode until the patch fixes all those bugs. It would be much more enjoyable once it's done.

Getting the G27 will make quite a difference to your lap times straight away as you can be more consistent and accurate.
For somewhere like Australia I set the setup on average setting and then adjust the brake bias to front 48, rear 52. Also I do tend to find you can shorten the gear ratios a bit but depends on which car you drive. I drove the Lotus and could shorten the gears to the least it could go, but on the Ferrari that meant I was hitting the rev limiter all the time. Also try softening the front anti-roll bar under the Balance section, as this will provide more turn-in bite and therefore more confidence in braking late.
Brown, Jon Brow
19th October 2010, 20:28
I always run with more front wing than rear wing, stiffer rear anit-roll bar and stiffer rear suspension. Making sure your 7th gear is close to the red-line on the fastest straight is essential or you will get pwned on the straights.

Daniel, the game is far better than negative people make it out to be and the patch will rectify the only real problems. I don't suggest you buy the game now anyway cos you seem determined to find all the negatives about it so it would be wasted on you. Rather spend your money on what you want to get, like the COD as you mentioned.

It's not that I want to find the negatives, there are so many well made games out there which have been released in the last few years that you can afford to be a bit picky. Games like TF2, Portal, Left 4 Dead, Starcraft and co have come out for PC and have just been perfect out of the box.
Support for Sandy Bridge (google it if you don't know what it is) strikes me as a little like McLaren or Ferrari turning around and telling their drivers that they're not going to continue to develop the current car and they're going to focus on next years car.
Perhaps I'm a bit fickle and hold a grudge, but I'm not the biggest fan of codies, with them always seeming to censor their boards to remove criticism and using that damn starforce copy protection which just ends up causing headaches..........
ArrowsFA1
20th October 2010, 08:26
The game sounds half baked.
Whether it's because it's Codies, or whether it's because some of us have been waiting so long for an F1 game, F1 2010 seems to have been a target just waiting to be hit.
The only bug I've come across, or at least one which has affected my enjoyment of the game in 30+hrs of playing it, was getting held in the pits too long, and that has happened to me once. That's not to say there aren't bugs that others have experienced but Codies are addressing them. You can argue the game should have been perfect, flawless, before release but I'm sure anyone can pick holes in anything if they really want to.
It looks as if the patch will make an excellent game even better.
Bruce D
20th October 2010, 09:14
Look Daniel, I agree with you that you pay a lot of money for these games and they should be bug free like the good ol' days, but I admit when I was waiting for this game to arrive (we were over a week behind the rest of the world) and I was reading all these negative comments I thought I'd made a serious mistake, but then it arrived, I knew from the forums how to tweak it to run smoothly and man have I loved this title. Once the patch is here to prevent those darn HRTs from skipping their pitstops I'll be more than happy.
I am evil Homer
20th October 2010, 09:21

I wouldn't say "not in any way". I wasn't all too happy when I got the corrupt save game after playing almost a whole season, and the pit stop bug really is annoying when you're playing shorter races and there's lots of traffic during a particular few laps making the lollipop man hold you for 15+ seconds.
But it's not a deal breaker, and these two flaws where the only ones from that list that I have actually experienced myself. Personally as a PC player I'm more than used to waiting for patches to make great games perfect anyway.

Bruce, if you can imagine, last night I logged in ONE minute after you logged out. I started the game, and GFWL said you were last online one minute ago. Well, I probably won't be able to play for the rest of the week, just way too much work, no free time, depends on if I can finish my work sooner.
Sunday afternoons it's proper crowded. You can fill up all 12 places in a matter of minutes, and most of them are pro guys with wheels, so there are possibilities of amazing races. But then again, weekends are a problem as well. I still might squeeze out 20 minutes to play a race or two, hopefully. :D

Maybe they're PC-specific issues?
I only ever got that pit stop thing on the PS3 if you pit the first lap after the window is open...you don't actually have to pit, if you wait a lap later or a few laps you don't get the same issue.

No, the glitches and bugs are present on all versions. The pit-stop bug, as you said, can be worked around by coming in a lap or two later or changing your default race strategy at the start.
I've only come across the puncture bug, which happens way too often in expert mode, even if you don't get either tyre on the gravel AND the bug where someone else hits you from behind during the start and you get a penalty for causing the collision.
The save data corruption, as I understand, is present on all systems, but is occurring more frequently on PS3.

How great is the feeling when you nail a qualy lap? Pole at Istanbul.
Am I good or is the game easy? Pole with the Virgin F1, although it was a good lap and had to hit every apex. At Monaco, I couldn't get near top 10 in qualy.

Daniel, when is Civ 5 to be released? I had a hard time running Civ 4 on my (oldish) PC as it was too much of a resource hog. I purchased Civ Revolution for the 'Box some time ago but didn't like it at all. So I ended up reverting to Civ III and am still playing it :D

I have been pitting later anyway, coz with the 20% race the pitstop window is within the first 4 laps, so I have made that to goto 6th or 7th lap, btw in multiplayer are there dedicated servers or people have to host on their machines, and guys where do you join to meet each other? I cant wait to get my wheel. :D
Bruce D
20th October 2010, 15:42
Depends on what you're on. If you're on PC then it's GFWL, Xbox is Xbox live and PS3 is PSN. They have dedicated servers but you can set up the rules for each race and "host" an event if you like. It works quite well I think.
As for pitstop strategies I found some tracks it helps to stay out longer (Malaysia) and others it helps to pit sooner (Shanghai).

Of course the pit stop thingy is possible to work around unless you get a puncture, and overall I'm still enjoying the game. I just don't agree that the glitches don't effect the game at all, because I think they do, BUT just to a small extent. I still find myself thrilled by it.
I struggle to find the motivation to race now that I've experienced the corrup save thingy once and I know the patch is on its way though, so I'll just try to find other things to do/games to play and wait for that I think. :)

Question for anyone running F1 2010 on PC, did you buy it on Steam or on disc? If you bought it on disc does it still play through steam or is it Games For Windows Live only? I'm pretty sure it does, you'd just need to link the cd key to your account and it should act as a regular steam game, apparently apart for pre orders F1 box sets aren't there for PC, the only way to buy it is through steam, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm using F1 2010 through Steam. The game of course starts through Steam, no other way, the steam client HAS to be running (which is weird, because GTA: EFLC on my PC can run with or without steam. That I bought before F1 2010).
As far as online goes, once the game starts it logs you into GFWL, and so far I have played online only through that. Haven't tried to play online through Steam only, which I don't know if it's possible, because you need to login to GFWL to play the game anyway, or else it won't save anything.

Just come back from what can only be described as a bumper car session at Hockenheim. It's very demoralising when you catch a guy on pace and then get past him, only for him to just ram you off the track at the next corner. Same dude did it to me on 2 seperate races. 3rd time I got wise and dummied him by going down the middle of the road and as I braked diving to the left and he sailed past. Left him to deal with his buddy who was doing the same trick.

Funny thing happened in my first race at Suzuka last night. First lap and I'm towing a Virgin up to 130R and I look behind and I see a Lotus doing the same thing to me and I'm thinking this chicance is going to be rather interesting when we get there. So we turn into 130R at 320+ km/h and the dude in the Virgin stands on the brakes in mid-corner! So I climb on the brakes and dive to the right and somehow the Lotus goes through the middle of us, so I get back up to speed behind the Virgin again and he then brakes at 150m before the chicane, which is fine when you've gone full speed through 130R but at this slower speed (+/- 220 km/h) you can brake later so I swerve to miss this dude again and miss my braking point for the chicane and end up rubbing wheels with the Lotus into the chicance before I managed to spin off and avoid any further damage. Got going again and passed the Virgin and disappeared up the road. After the race I sent a message to the Lotus driver saying sorry for hitting him cos of the other mobile chicance and he responded that he didn't know he'd been hit, he thought he'd outbraked himself! So all was good there... :D

Great race reports!
Did praccy and qually at Monaco in career mode last night. Man, what a tough track! I quallied at 1:18.3 in the Virgin, 8th on the grid. Gonna do the race before The real Korea GP qualifying, tonight. Did some time trials in the Ferrari and got my time down to a 1:16.3. I think I can get into the 1:15's but I got tired from racing all night.
I got 3rd place in my league race over at the Red Sox Racing League for iRacing. We were at Homestead Road Course and it was pressure-packed!! I trimmed the car out, so I could be fast on the oval section. All was going well........until I caught the apron in turn 3 and did a "Spin and Win" alla Danny Sullivan.........except I didn't win, lol. I only lost one place and the guy in 2nd had an off later in the race. I was very lucky not to have put my Star Mazda into the wall.
Good racing night :)

Got my wheel yesterday and I'm loving it, I took some time to customize the sensitivity, seems like F1 doesn't support the entire 900degree for the wheel, just about going 90degree from the center would be the max steering I can do, but thats not bad. The kerbs feel pretty good, and I tried some manual shifting with no traction control and thats going to take a bit to get used to, for the time being I think I will start with auto and traction control enabled, guys what time are you playing, who's playing from US? You should be able to use more than 180 degree lock (albeit maybe not the full 900, though I'm not sure why you would want that in a F1 game anyway).
Is it a logitech? Do you use the profiler? What wheel saturation setting do you use in-game?

yes its a logitech G27, I'm using 10% deadzone with 80% saturation, and I dont know yet how to set up that lock, I thought about it yesterday but I haven't figured how to do it yet, and yes I do have the profiler, again dint get time to play around it, and yes 900 is a bit too much, I would have liked 360 degree turn though, and the need to use it only on an hairpin :)

Oh, alright. If you set it to 100% saturation it SHOULD give you the same lock in-game as you have set in the profiler, atleast it seems to work with my DFP (though I haven't played around with it too much tbh, found a good setting with about 240 degrees and just kept it there).
I personally prefer 50% linearity for the wheel as that "cancels out" that filter. If you want it to be a little more or less sensitive in the middle then you can play around with it though. Deadzone is rubbish IMO.
In the profiler I use 110% FFB and 0% on everything else (everything unchecked as well), feels good to me in the games I play (F1, LFS, GTR-Evo).
Good luck with setting everything up and congrats to what I'm sure is an awesome wheel, can't deny I'm a little jealous. :D

First season at Virgin is going well. Just finished Silverstone weekend, finished 9th so got a couple of points, qualified 11th but couldn’t really progress in the race. Loving the game, I am playing on the hardest AI difficulty – legend – and find some tracks harder to master than others. Valencia was tough, finished last with a pit-lane speeding penalty after qualifying 23rD! Yet in Montreal I qualified on pole by 0.2secs and finished 2nd in the race. Hamilton overtook me, my prime tyres weren’t as good as the options.
However, I race with automatic gearbox and full traction control, which obviously makes things easier.
I am wondering how much faster you can go without these if you can master them? Anybody know?
Cheers

I think driving with all assists off definitely is a big improvement in time. You feel like you're more in control of the car, if you know what I mean. But of course, there is a slight learning curve for feathering the throttle as you come out of corners, or you'll spin.
For example, in time trial mode, I did a 1:22.8 time at Melbourne with a Mclaren with all driving assists off. During online races I'm usually in 1:23 or 1:24. Sometimes I have to race in races where they allow driving assists, but I still go without any driving assists and none of them are able to match my times.
I guess one can go faster with only traction control on, because then you won't have to be so cautious coming out of corners. But using manual gears is definitely a clear advantage.

Yep no matter how hard I tried yesterday to come close to the pole time, I could only get as close as 6th place in my Sauber, in q3, in q2 when it was raining I was able to set the fastest time in my first lap :D , but in dry conditions its almost impossible to put a sauber or anything other then the top 6 teams on pole. With fuel and tyre simulation off, I got the pole in couple laps. I think I'll keep it this way till they release the patch and fix the puncture and pit stop bugs! Btw this is in legend mode!

Can anyone recommend a good/best Steering wheel for the Xbox 360????
Also, is it easier with the Xbox Pad or with a wheel, or is it down to the person's own preferences?
A wheel should give you better precision and about three zillion times more fun.

Patch is now released on all platforms. I installed mine last nigth but didn't get a chance to play it, but apparently it is quite an improvement.

Anytime. :) I would be glad to help but I'm completely lost when it comes to xbox controllers, since I'm a PC gamer myself. But apparently there are some good force feedback-wheels around for the box so I'm sure you'll find something suitable if you just shop around.

Guys I'm trying to learn driving without tc with manual gearing, any tips that i could use, I'm using the G27. Btw does braking harder while approaching a corner burns the tyres? I mean do they lock up? I cant tell so far.
Bruce D

Depends on your brake balance setting, but most of the time they should lock up and lock up pretty easy. Without TC just feed the power in slowly out of corners, maybe take a second or 2 to get to full throttle. Something I'm trying with the manual gearing is to delay the last downchange until just before the corner. I noticed other people in videos doing this. Seems to help with stability a bit.

Well, the patch improved some things for sure. The game now looks much better because of the FPS gain, and runs more fluidly. I guess because of the patch it now uses my quad core processor better.
BUT the force feedback has changed a bit. I don't know if it's for better or worse, because I spun on some places easily, where I wouldn't before, for example the penultimate corner at Melbourne.
And it seems the penalty system hasn't been improved at all. Yesterday in an online race, I got punted from behind by someone at a corner and so was pushed across forcing me to cut it. Was carrying too much speed since it was Monza, and I get a 10 sec time penalty for corner cutting. Then I was following someone in their slipstream trying to overtake, the guy spins at the next corner and since I'm right behind he crashes into me, and I get another penalty for causing a collision. WTF?

Best way mate. Bravo for being brave :)
Short shifting is a good way to keep from spinning up - just about perfected that at turn 3 in Melbourne - now I've just got to manage the same thing at EVERY other bl00dy corner ;)
As for the brakes, it should be fairly easy to spot a lock up - the game does have a glitch that resets the ABS so perhaps that's what happened to you.

Got into a 2 race online thingy with about 11 people a couple of days ago. The host allowed all driving assists, but I went with no assists as always. The first race was at Monza, which I won and by lap 3 half of them disconnected. I won that race by not even a big margin and the host then sends me a message saying I'm cheating.
Then we get to Spa next, where I win again, and again by not even going too fast. I think my lap time was 1:44, which is about 3 seconds off my best lap time there. The host again sends me a message, "100% cheating" and leaves the race.
When will these morons realize that you actually can't cheat online. Maybe in Time Trial, as some of the times on the leaderboards are just impossible, but I haven't seen anybody cheat in an online race yet. Plus, there's an anti-cheat system in place for F1 2010 already, similar to PunkBuster. If you go into the F1 2010 directory, you can even see the anti-cheat folder.
I've really had enough of noobs not being able to drive, then throwing their toys out of the pram if they're beaten fair and square. It's a difference of at least 3 seconds with all assists off! I saw some noob at the Codies forum say that people with wheels and all assists off are cheaters. :rotflmao: There's no shortage of idiots and sore losers. RARELY you would find people joining in a race with all assists off. It seems nobody really wants to do it the hard way.

hehe, even when I´m not an F12010 player and what I´ve heard from my friend about online, yeah the level there isn´t too great and as has been said even at this thread most of the players are there just to cause mayhem.
What comes to wheels and all aids off,its always one of those things the people complain about. Its actually true that with wheel, you are quicker at most of the racing games than with pad because with pad,the car doesnt turn so well and even if it does the tyres are always in maximum turning position and you lose speed specially at the faster corners. Also the throttle with wheel gives you a quicker acceleration and sometimes even a higher top speed. What comes to all assists off it is just the most giving even when sometimes a bit fustrating thing at the motorsport games and far from cheating, even if it may help you with top speeds,it surely makes you to lose time on brakings and cornering.
It still sounds a bit weird to me that actually at assists accepted games, there doesnt seem to be any lock up for host settings as in most of the games?? You can still pick, whatever you want to drive with?
Anyway but its still not cheating! It is just about what kind of equipment you have to play these games and we all know that wheels are more fun too. So keep going!
ps. The forum talk at codies is just normal.. Remember the times when people were yelling at driving forums with different games that making setups is cheating...

Well sorry X but I still feel it's very possible to cheat in F1 2010. According to the guys on the CM forum they have tried and successfully raced with 200% grip without it being blocked, so it's possible. Plus explain to me how the guys I raced a few weeks ago were doing 1m08s around Hockenheim if thats not cheating. You know I'm not slow around there and I was doing 1m14s.
Your problem is your starts are brilliant every single time which makes it look like you've got some grip advantage, cos you make up 1 row on the grid every start.

I think it's also down to settings to a great extent. People who do some research and trial and error, use custom setups etc. usually get better at the game gradually. For example, at first I wasn't really confident in my wheel, which is Logitech Momo, about 35% of the price of a G27, but having beaten many guys using G25 and G27's, I honestly wouldn't trade my Momo. Everything seems perfect on the wheel.
Right now, I've hit the sweet spot as far as setup goes. In fact the cornering speed, going in and coming out of corners etc. I can see is MUCH better than other guys I'm competing against. However, there are some guys who are just too fast, and the mind ponders sometimes if they cheat. :P There is this Swedish guy in my GFWL friend list who almost always takes out a second out of me on every track, no matter what I do. So, I guess I still have some more work to do.
It still sounds a bit weird to me that actually at assists accepted games, there doesnt seem to be any lock up for host settings as in most of the games?? You can still pick, whatever you want to drive with?
I don't think so. I've hosted games with all assists off, and once you're in the pits, if you go to options > driving assists, you cannot change the options. They no longer have the side arrows available. Everything is off.

This happens in almost every game. There will always be some people who will jump and say the better guy is cheating, no matter how much proof they get. Happened to one of my friends playing COD: MW2 online or Warcraft 3 online. So, well, kids will always call it unfair if it's something they don't understand. :)

Well, I've only come across something like this once in all the times I have raced. It was at Spa, and during qualifying the guy did a 1:14 lap  and seconds later it showed that he was disqualified from the race. Maybe the anti-cheat system did kick in at that time. Didn't come across this ever again since.

I just jam the throttle right down to the floor at the last red light, and when the race starts, I change to second as soon as it hits the redline. Then in the third gear, there's a little pickup before it gets to the redline before changing to fourth, that's where my car has this sudden burst of acceleration and I overtake cars around me. Probably I can't explain it very well.
However, this doesn't work with other pro guys I've raced against, because it seems they've also nailed this to the T. Had an all assists off race the other day against some high ranked players, ranks 37, 40, 42 etc. and I started in 3rd, and was 3rd by the end of the 2nd lap.
I know you've always been tentative at the start Bruce, and I jump you every time. But then if I had extra grip, wouldn't I be doing lap times 10 seconds faster? The only place where I guess I have a little advantage is at Monaco, and that's because the setup from Racedepartment is brilliant! As it is for Hockenheim and Sao Paolo. I've gained huge amounts of time on these 3 circuits using those setups.

See now that is the wierd thing, I tried to start like you before (because I thought maybe you were just flooring it and I was stuffing around here) and it just sits on the rev limiter if I change to 2nd it just goes straight on the limiter so I change to 3rd and now it gets grip and bogs down. Meanwhile you're off into the sunset. I'm just using you as an example but I can beat others off the line. Interestingly enough a little while ago someone was saying what you were saying about starts being easy and others were saying that was rubbish and they got terrible starts if they did that. I'll give your method another go some time but I'm beginning to get a feeling there is somehow some difference between the boxed version and the download version.
Look at this brake locking issue I've had since day one. I've read what other guys do and I try it and I either get no braking at all or terrible locking. My method has been the most successful for me. Just seems like we're all playing on different versions for some reason. I can't quite work it out.

I doubt that's the case. I mean for sure Steam can't have a different version than the boxed one? I'm thinking this could be down to the default steering settings as well, because I remember to have put all deadzones, steering, throttle and braking to 0% and that made the handling much more crispier for me. It made maneuvering easier, throttle response better, braking better etc. etc.
As for the brake locking issue that you had, I never understood that, because when we were racing online with the same game settings and assists on the same circuit, I never had that issue. I'm thinking it could be again more to do with the steering wheel settings.
As for your start problem, that's weird again, because I don't get that problem ever. I'll post a video of my start in an online race, if I can. Like I said before, it's pedal to the metal at race start, then shift ASAP to 2nd at the redline. After you shift to second, it does get to the redline initially for a millisecond, but then goes down and comes up again, that's when I shift to third, and that is when my car closes the distance dramatically to the cars infront, or if I'm ahead, I pull away.
Also, interestingly this doesn't work at Monaco with the higher downforce and faster gearing setup, neither at Hungary.

I think because of the short gearing ratios it hits the RPM limiter too quick. I don't make too much ground, but don't lose it either.

I'm using the custom setups as I'm going on in the career mode, but I was wondering if you could post your setups, for dry and wet weather? I have hard time shifting manually, I usually end up in a spinning on slow corners, and its very hard to judge which gear to be on while braking, any tips on that, and yes now I can race with traction control turned off :) I raced in Malaysia in wet weather and I was able to win the race after the 20th time I think lol but it was fun driving in those conditions with the AI set to legend mode.

I'm using setups from here: http://www.racedepartment.com/f1-2010-setups/ Some of them are good, some not so much, and some are just brilliant, ex Monaco, Hockenheim and Sao Paulo.
Keep on with the manual shifting. I think a good way to learn is to do a lot of time trialing with all assists off. That improves your driving in a lot of areas and you're not in pressure to perform. Spinning in slow corners means you're downshifting probably too much. For example, I was spinning every time at the right hander at Mirabeau at Monaco, because I was downshifting to 2nd gear. Next time I took the corner in 3rd, and there was no problem.
Also, spinning while with traction control off can also mean accelerating too fast out of corners. In F1 2010 I guess the golden rule is to not accelerate at all while turning. I always let go of the throttle completely or do very gentle acceleration while turning in, and then I just stand on the accelerator, doesn't spin me like it would in rFactor or GTR2.

Have finally managed to start my second season so am now back to where I was, before I did a new profile to sign up to xbox live..... Am now second driver for Red Bull, and after driving the Lotus for a year it is an absolute dream to drive, what a huge difference it has made!
Still driving with TC as I don't have enough time to learn it properly.... but I tend to try to remember the gear to take all of the corners at and try to use that as a guide to my speed, although there are some you can take by lifting off slightly rather than changing down. There are still a few corners in the game that even with TC it is easy to spin at, most notably the bump after the second straight in Bahrain, really tricky, but then I don't tend to make any changes to the car setup apart from the downforce, so can maybe do something about that. I find a bit extra rear downforce helps over the kerbs in Abu Dhabi :)
I would love to try it with a steering wheel as I think it would be much more fun, however I have a G25 which doesn't work on Xbox and don't want to have to spend extra money for a new one :(

Here Bruce, I took two videos of my start. Wasn't very crowded on Sunday morning, but I remembered to record at the start. First is at Monza where I started from pole. You'll see that the second guy starts at the same time, but I start creating distance from 3rd gear onwards:

Now, since it's time trial, tyre and fuel simulation is off by default, and so it's easier to drive. With tyre and fuel sim on, lap time here would be somewhere in the range of 1:25. Perfecting gearing and braking zones really comes with practice, as you try and get faster every time. A good thing is to get into longer online races where you're getting better and competing at the same time. It's fun. ;) We'll setup a race or two some time, and don't be too sure, I'm horrible on some tracks.
I had a really annoying game online the other day and decided to try online once again to see if anything had been done with all the idiots who can't race. I chased a guy for 2 laps for the lead and we had a good tussle. I gave him space and aborted some of my overtakes as I knew I would end up taking us both off. Finally I manged to get past him by sticking it up the inside and developed a clear lead, then suddenly this guy smashes straght into the back of me??? What gets me is the fact that I respected him enough not to try and take him off and I thought he would have noticed that I was a clean racer, only for him to return the favour by doing this. His response was to laugh at me over his headset.. The worrying thing was I probably would be on a murder charge if I'd had the chance to meet this guy in the 5 minutes afterwards, it made me so angry. Perhaps I should just get a life . :p
I should really just set my own games up and cut this sort of thing out, but I still think something should be done about the morons. :mark:
What I have learned so far is that morons usually don't show up in games with all assists banned. I hosted some races long back with all assists allowed to have more players. Sure, the rooms filled up fast and full, but 90% were there just to bang into people. Still, there are some clean racers there too, but VERY rare.
Needless to say, I don't host races with assists on anymore. The problem with this is nobody joins! You'll have to wait an eternity for people to join in. When they see assists off, they run away. Although during weekends, this is less of a problem, and you can have some decent races.
I am driving at catalunya. Being the second guy in the championship behind webber. I find there is some bug in the game, which makes me wide into 2nd and last corner of the track. I am using all aids. The Auto braking does'nt seem to work in these corner. The car just goes into the gravel. Even if i touch the pedal. I am losing a lot of time, since i have to slow down to arnd 50 MPH. to turn here properly
Any suggestion ?
I don't really know what to say, since I've never driven with assists on. Did once and it was horrible, the car brakes by itself, super traction out of corners, no challenge really.
People talked about the AI being too fast at Catalunya. Anyway, if you're talking about the second corner, the long swooping right hander, then you've got to downshift and throttle gingerly to make it through. As for the last corner, it needs a lot of steering input, and whatever you do, don't hit the kerb or you'll spin out.

catalunya thre is a bug in the gme. the car goes to fast into the grave at 2nd, 4th and the last chicane, even if u have the braking assist on

I dont think there is a bug, I guess with the braking assist on, the car will brake for long, and when your braking hard, turning becomes difficult, its much easier to brake first slow down and then turn. While braking I have always noticed, its much harder to turn, and you'll end up going straight.

...I don't tend to make any changes to the car setup apart from the downforce...
That's all I was doing at first, but I'm now making far more adjustments, notably brake bias, ride height, spring settings (particularly the fronts), wheel camber, gearing, and I found adjusting the brake size to "large" helped enormously in Montreal.
I find that small adjustments in all of these can make a big difference. It does require patience though, as it will take numerous practice laps to find the optimal combination.
P.s. nice on the plasma, eh? ;)

Indeed schmenke the quality is just stunning :D I am struggling to drive cos I'm paying more attention to the graphics instead of the track ahead. Still, it means I can admire the quality of the grass as I am skidding across it sideways.......

Morning everyone
I know this is a long shot but i'm gonna try anyway......
I'm looking for the Official Xbox 360 Steering Wheel and Pedals to use with the F1 2010 game. I can't find them online anywhere apart from ebay and amazon, but im not willing to pay £100 and above for these, as they weren't that much when they were new!
Basically, if anyone or anyone you know is selling one, i would appreciate anyone letting me know about it or pass on my email address, which is:
flynnjmichael@yahoo.co.uk
Any help with this will be very very very appreciated!
Thanks

I guess it's time to move up to the "Hard" level in my current carrer. Just posted pole, then went on to win at Hockenheim... in an HRT :D . I'm 2 points adrift of championship leader Alonso :D

I've been playing on professional level for a while but was wanting a bit more of a challenge, so the only thing I did was to put tyre wear on and now I have an almighty struggle to get into the top ten :(

just finally got the game on PS3, having read a little on here i decided to do one race on hard level just to try it out before moving on to start a career on the Expert level with all assists off, 30% races.
I'm only using the PS3 controller rather than the wheel, but so far i've managed to out qualify and outrace teamate Trulli at Bahrain, ending up 18th or so, had a disaster in Melbourne with a small spin and then a puncture trying to recover and ended up a lap down having had to have 2 stops before qualifying in the top 10 Malaysia after none of the other cars went out and posted a time in a part wet Q2 and went on to record 4th in the full wet race, partially helped by not pitting for inters 3 laps from the end and managing to hold off a couple of quicker cars on the last lap. (albeit i did restart the race a number of times just to get through the first couple of laps, firstly as i'd not driven in the wet and secondly as everytime i even slightly touched anyone i got a drive through, even when they drove into me.
So far very impressed with the game, is tough but playable with the pad, although i do want to get a new wheel to try it out. I've also not got any internet access at the moment to try online, but i'd imagine i would get my ass reamed by the majority of people who are playing with a wheel.
not experimented at all with set up yet, it seems that the base is good enough to start with, until i learn the car and all the tracks it will be pointless changing anything on the car as i won't know if its the car or me that has made any improvement.
a couple of things that bug me, which i assume are fixed by a download (which i can't get at the moment, even if there is one on the PS3 version?) is the inability to have a gap to the car in front, only the relative difference in lap time, and the inability to change fuel loads in practice, i'd like to stick 10 laps in and learn a track rather than pitting every 5 minutes. oh, and my race engineer is a cock, butting in with advice at inopportune times to tell me a Ferrari has pitted even though i'm nowhere near it.
So far so good though, i've got to say a big thumbs up, it looks great, drives better, its difficult enough without being impossible. All the better to jump straight in with no driver aids and full realism too, although i was getting sick of spinning in nearly every hairpin when i was putting it in first, soon learned to stay in 2nd for the majority of hairpins instead though which seemed to cure it.

Most online racers are pretty bad in my experience. Lots of kids and crashers. Should be raceable with a pad, and destroyable with a wheel!

I have been playing GT5 and its very immersing, and a very neat feature in GT5 online racing is, when someone's about to bump you or something, the car becomes transparent, and the person just goes over, helps a lot in getting consistent lap times.

Hmm not sure I like that. Is side to side contact still possible? I find ghost racing very unsatisfying. Plus I like to be able to block/defend!

Thats where its smart, so if your on a corner you dont break, but instead you were planning to bank on some guy who slowed down, you become transparent, I think it only happens when there is a certain minimum delta between your speed and the person you were going to bump into, if its small you race just fine.

Yeah I did a race months ago where we were at Hockenheim and the same 6 idiots tried to crash into everyone on the first lap. When I got on pole I just let everyone past before turn 1 and then went racing.

I think the game should have Martin Brundle interviewing you on the grid before the start of the race.
Martin:'So, did you see the presentation for Michael Schumacher at the start of the race?'
Answer:
(A) 'Yeah, he's a great driver. I'm inspired by him.'
(B) 'No, I am focussing on my own race'
(C) 'I was having a sh!t'

I'm not going to pre-order F1 2011 like I did with F1 2010. This time I'm going to wait AT LEAST a month before even thinking of buying this. If it has the same amount of bugs as F1 2010, then it would be money wasted.

I think inevitably with these sorts of games where you get a 2010, 2011, 2012 version unless the studio is intent on getting it right first time the it's not worth buying as you always get something half baked and it's only worth playing just before the new version comes out.

Here Bruce, I took two videos of my start. Wasn't very crowded on Sunday morning, but I remembered to record at the start. First is at Monza where I started from pole. You'll see that the second guy starts at the same time, but I start creating distance from 3rd gear onwards:

Are your speeeds in mph or kmh? If mph then you are lightning fast through the gears. I can barely get up to 220 on the long straight at spa and monza

It's obviously KPH. I don't think any F1 car can reach 200 MPH in 3rd gear. :D

So I finally got the game via steam/PC and find it odd that there seems to be hardly anyone online playing
anyway my handle is JTDiesel72 and am looking for any folks out there to be added as a friend or joining some community or something.
Anyway, game is fun, just getting the hang of it and still using a few assists but tonight I'll start testing with fewer assists to see how it goes.
Also using a gamepad and not a wheel yet
cheers

Well online racing isn't all that great in this game anymore. Too many people just ram each other off the track, and I was also finding that everyone was finding "magic" setups and suddenly you were 4sec a lap off the pace and there is nothing fun about running around on your own. In short, lots of nonsense in this game has put a lot of people off of online racing.

I know what you mean about the banger racing, some people just dont bother to stop for corners or go for over takes from miles back! The best thing ive found to do is to move out the way at the start and let everyone pile into the first corner and make up places that way without being wiped out.
Dont get me started on Forza 3 though, online on that winds me right up!

codemaster f1 2010 is a pretty awesome game thats for sure. However I would seriously think about getting some mods for it off of racedepartment, some of them are really quite amazing and offer big improvements on original - even have 2011 and 2009 conversions. It is a bit weird though how it seems a lot easier in a quick race than in career mode... but hey, still good to play - but shift 2 is taking me away for a bit ;)

I thought I was a good driver but I kept spinning out on slow corners. Then when I just picked up the game again, somewhere in the past few months I've learned to be smooth on acceleration. Still don't want to bump it up to legend even though I'm occasionally scoring points in a Virgin, because if I do and it rains I'm still screwed probably. So I'm just living the fantasy of being a superb F1 driver capable of stunning drives in backmarker cars lol. I figure by the time I get into a McLaren or something I'll treat the game leisurly and enjoy winning a WDC.

Doesn't "bug" me! Lol. I try to pit one lap earlier or one later. Either that, or i seem to have luck with having enough of a gap that the lollipop man releases me without issue. Last night i followed a Lotus into the pits and was released in time to even pass him still in the box!!

Well, your driving skills are far superior to mine :p : .
I find it madening when I'm driving comfortably in the top 10, then fall to the back of the pack due to a the pit stop.
I try to pit a lap later too, but it doesn't always seem to help. The lolipop man still holds me :s

I dont know about the patch, but I always edit the default pit stop to atleast 2-3laps later then what they schedule it as, never have issues with that.
Waiting for the new game though, seems like they are adding a lot of things, including safety car, split screen, drs, kers, multiplayer co-op etc.
