He lost time at an almost identical rate to Henning so they may have got a puncture at the same place?

Puncture for Petter as well and gearbox problem I think(Not sure for the latter).

pettersolberg29

We'll see this stage if the problem is a lasting one. Wonder if he'll be able to catch JML if he gets back in the rhythm.

It could still be exciting if Loeb crashes or loses a bundle of time. Shame that the WRC needs that to make some excitement tho.

FAlonso
25th April 2009, 20:25
I believe it´s time for Ford to start thinking about going "all in" for the rest of the championship. And still it might be to late. Having J-M finishing behind both Citroens won´t do them any good either way. They need to let both drivers off the leash and hope for the best.

muscrae
25th April 2009, 20:27
I hope to see Petter in podium at the end of this rally, it may be!!!
If Mikko's problem is that serious, than he will go further down the leaderboard, maybe retire... Then, Malcolm may tell JML to slow down, and not take any risks in order to save some manufacturer points. If all the things goes like this, we may see three Citroens in the podium...

In my professional opinion he should be able to crawl through the next two so he could at least get top 4 or 5.

On the other hand, my professional opinion is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Didn't know the most basic rule of Gp N?! Mmmm.
#154 Madero in Evo IX was actually close to the lead in PCWRC on Day 1.
Certainly cheaper to run fibreglass, but probably heavier than the original aluminium parts.

Hening has been driving a lot of the rally with a wrong gearbox, set up for winterrallies - it amazes me that Stobart does not carry the right amount of spares - for the prize these guys are paying them to drive.

Not sure how much time he has lost, but quite a bit according to Henning, since the box is not optimal for Argentina.

Pity really !!

JFL
26th April 2009, 11:22
pity and shame.. The optimal gearbox went to pieces after Shakedown, so he has driven the whole rally with the "spare". I guess they forgot to take it out of the trailer after Rally Norway.. I dont know how the rules are, but I guess Mikko has the right spares... Maybe a swap??

Maybe it's better to own Your own car like P.Solberg and the rest of (especially) Ford private drivers (private Subaru's are rarely in top 8 except Ostberg's last race after so many rallies) then to pay millions for rent and zero chances to enter into works team..

I think thats they main reason why Petter is on his own. If my memory is correct, this sort of thing has happened before to Henning, on several accations.. Wrong diff..(cant remember what rally), wrong setup after a good test(Rally Norway) And a car that basically falled apart...

That maximum attack is what I'm looking for as well. It'd be interesting to see Hirvonen's pace on next rounds. Driving for the second place would've worked as long as Seb would've provide a few mistakes like he did last year, but this year - you know it. Now that everything is virtually lost both championships wise, Hirvonen should show is maximum speed - and hopefully we haven't seen that just yet (although - when was the last time he gained something by attacking or evenattacked?).

I didn't follow the rally much either, just checked the stages time. This reminds me of Argentine 2008 when Conrad got 4th place by being 20minutes behind. Loeb leads and other drivers try catching and in the process get into problems and retired. Then slower drivers gets higher place because of other retirements. At this rate, Loeb will win every single rally, even if Hirvonen didn't retired I'm not sure he can catch Loeb. Every single rally Loeb start off caution on the first day and then day three he pulls away from the rest and no one can catch up, I don't get it. FIA should make WRC a two days event, there will be more fighting incentive in two days than three.

Psycho!

Don't know if you heard but Ken Rees' suitcase was tolen in service - containing Petter and the team's passports, plans, documents, laptop and money. I hope he can recover it otherwise it may be hard for his team to get going again with all the plans and documents gone.

Any news about that???

Well.. very nice start for the rally and much closer caps than normal in Argentina. last year Conrad was 20 minutes behind and fourth this year Villagra lost less than 6 minutes and was still 4th.
I am most dissapointed to Citroen team. two of their cars seem to be 100% but their Junior team has had nightmare start of the season due to driver faults and tech. errors. look at the standings. Villagra alone in Munchis team (12 points) has almost passed Citroen junior team (13 points) in overall standings. And Munchis has done only three rallies while Citroen has done 5!
Very bad..
Looking forward to next European rally!

Worst. Day. Ever.

Ina sporting sense, but sure has it ruined my week.. :(

Once up on a time time there lived a very powerful king. He had also group of people called "inventors". Once he asked from them to invent something that helps in every occasion. Inventors worked two months (days and nights) very hard and then came to give their invention to the king. It was simple medallion with two sides. And they told: "It is something very powerful, but you can use it only then when you feel that your situation is completely hopeless or as good as it can be only in dream World". The king was little bit disappointed that it was so small thing put kept the invention.

2 years later his luck turned, his army turned against him and he was forced to escape. He went to the desert together with a few companions and then they were hit by sandstorm. Then he lost his companions and he fell from the horse, and got stuck under it. He was very weak due to hunger and thirst.. And then he saw his enemy army coming on his way. It was as worse situation as you can imagine. He broke the medallion and saw the words "everything passes"..

And it passed, army didn't notice him, and his companions found him. He recovered and got back his country and army. Everything went uphill again and he found very nice girl and they got married. So, a few years later he felt that he is as lucky as possible in the material World and he decided to break another side of the medallion.. and there was written... "everything passes"..

..
don't worry guys, everything passes sooner or later and someone else is going to win again!

I'm afraid life is not a fairy tale...Nevertheless,we have to wait and see Ford's maximum attack with both drivers....Let's hope...

I have to say, I liked this year's route better than those used in the past few years. The repeated El Condor stages were good, as was the return of El Mirador.

Impressive streak of 5 wins !

Congrats to Citroën, Loeb and Sordo for a solid performance with a reliable car, something the Fordies couldn't match. They now lie in the -39th floor. Very Bad.

Disapointed for P.Solberg, he did great until ol' mama decided otherwise.

But glad Villagra finished ahead of the lil' son, Ar-Gen-Tina ! ²

Quoting a bit Kozmik, the new route was very challenging with the addition of more different terrains, a good choice.

As always, wonderful scennery and rally.

Encantado ! :)

Hirvonen shouldn't feel bad, it's ok to lose from an alien (Loeb).

I saw I have missed nothing this weekend in WRC: again a Citroën 1-2 and again the Ford guys were to slow.

I can't follow next round too and I must say that I am not feeling bad about that.

Privateer Citroëns in WRC are always bad and has a lot of mechanical problems. Ask this to Manfred Stohl or Daniel Carlsson too.

Sure but i was having in mind the begining of the championship.

If my stats serve me right, for some odd reasons no one ever won more than the first two rallies of the championship : Vatanen (85), Mäkinen (96, 99), Grönholm (06) and Loeb (04).
The new record was broken in Cyprus this year, then 4, 5 now in Argentina, and counting...

Not only Ogier and Novikov are missing quite some experience (and speed I guess), but also good material is given only to works drivers... and you know it ;)

As for the winning streak it will always be remembered for being the poorest years in WRC history when Loeb won tally after rally with no competition!!!!

Yeah. Conrad's car has a lot of mechanical problems too. Usually as a result of him crashing it
Of course it would be good if he could refind last years form. Preferably the form he showed in Jordan ;)

The main reason being the fact that in most seasons, the two first rallies of the year have been Monte Carlo and Sweden. Those are two very different types of rallies and there are not many drivers that would have been able to conquer both, even in theory.

That was the situation three years ago. Hirvonen retired then due to engine failure, though I don't remember that case any closely.

What a dismal rally. There are three drivers in the WRC who I really want to do well, and they all got knocked out due to technical problems.

Although, I was impressed with Dani's performance on Friday.

It is sad, you can say that there is no competition for a number of reasons, we won't get into that again.

It is very disappointing every rally to tune in knowing that you are just looking to see who is going to get second place as first place will probably not change.

Although Mikko, Jari Matte and the other young guys will have many rallies left in their careers it is however unlucky for those guys to be remembered how hard it was for them to beat Loeb.
