2004 the only person to go faster than 1:10 was Bourdais. Everyone else was in the 1:10s or slower.

The track layout has changed slightly around the fountain & restaraunt's since '04. '04 is not a good comparison to today, maybe '06 if you're wondering how old Lola's would would compare, not sure which year they moved that area around. Obviously the DP01's in '07 & '08 were much quicker on current config.

Thanks, I didn't know about the changes. So 2006 is the first year of the current configuration? I've been checking the old stats on champcar.ws (yes, it's still up) and that's where I got the times. IIRC 2005 was in the 1:08s I think, and 2006-2008 were in the 1:06-1:07s.

Since IRL and CC when it existed have not run to the extent of their capabilities, I just don't see the point in comparing times, it stopped being about increasing speed a long time ago, nowadays is about the series looking for new ways to decrease the speeds of their cars and teams trying to find new ways to increase their speed within the rules.

Jose...there still will be a few of us curious to see how much faster or slower the DP-01 would have been, and whether you wanted to see it faster or slower depends on what side of the fence you used to sit...
I am curious only from a engineering standpoint. I know the current IRL car is down on power compared to the DP-01 or Lola's but it is remarkable how much work has gone into this car and how well it has taken to road racing. I remember the unofficial first few road course tests being spoken about as if the IRL car would be hard pressed to keep up to some top Atlantics. That cannot be said now...

It is not curiosity I'm afraid of, I'm curious myself (and everyone knows the side I used to sit in), but I'm still waiting for the old speed wars in which curiosity had nothing to do with.
