Virgin-backed F1 squad snap-up MotoGP legend's services for two F1 events in 2009

http://www.visordown.com/t.gifVALENTINO Rossi, the eight-time GP World Championship winner - one of the highest earning sports personalities in the world - will drive at selected F1 events this year for Brawn GP.
The Virgin-backed squad had a successful opening race in Australia, with Brit Jenson Button claiming top-spot on the podium, and have ambitious plans for the future. Rossi, who has tested for Ferrari F1 in the past, has also been involved in secret testing with the Brawn squad, with a view to a full-time drive for the team after his contract with Yamaha expires in 2010. Rossi will compete in two races this year - in a third car fielded by the Brawn team - the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on the 12th July and the European Grand Prix at Valencia on a street circuit on the 23rd August

The sad thing is, when I read this it registered in my brain as January 4th, so I thought that was impossible, they didn't have virgin sponsorship at the time... :p

But the 3 car f1 team is probably why this "April 1st" story didn't make the rounds on to many f1 sites... F1 fans would never fall for that eh?

It's never too late to be a fool, as has just been proven.

the date did not sink in

but it is common in motogp for a team to run a 3rd bike at some rounds
and with the stories of 3 car teams at the start of the year

Not to worry!! ;)

They really should remove these April fools jokes after the date so they're not picked up by search engine spiders etc.

after seeing the rossi interview last month

In an interview, MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has named not taking on formula one as his only regret at the age of 30.

After a spate of test drives, the Italian came close to becoming Michael Schumacher's teammate in 2006, but ultimately decided to stick to two wheels.

According to the ANSA news agency, when asked in a television interview to reveal his biggest regret, Rossi said he has only one: "Not to have switched to F1

It seems unlikely that Virgin’s relationship with Braun, which has now won the first two F1 races of the year, will be extended.
