...to be a ghost town if the IRL ever ran there? From todays Long Beach Telegraph;
"Mike Clark is excited about the changes in the 25 Pit Row suites like their upstairs lounges that dispense food and beverages to the patrons behind open-air seating now being fully enclosed by a canopy.
"We've already reached capacity in our Pit Row Suites sales," says Clark. The Pit Lane Club, which features the same culinary and drinking amenities as the Pit Row Suites, is also sold out, meaning all 300 of the three-day, $795 tickets already have been purchased.
"So far we're tracking ahead of last year's ticket pace," says Clark."
How many series (NASCAR & F1 included) can say that ticket sales are up this year? St. Pete was up too. So far, so good.
Glass half full. : )

Do you think it would be possible for you to EVER start a thread here without poking your finger in former CART fans eyes? ... shakes head...

The rest of this message was GREAT news. I'm thinking a bit MORE than half full, given what sales are like in all the other series right now.

You don't think for one second that if projected attendance was down that some here would let you know about it? Give me a break. : ).
Just trying to point out some good news to counter all of the "We're one race into a 10 year TV contract and since the numbers are down we should tear OW management down and start all over (again)" line of BS.

Great, I agree that should be said. But without the leading jab into the ocular socket.

may or may not be your cup of tea.... but i can tell you from first hand experience that a few years ago there were more fans in the stands and lining the exit of the hairpin for the drifts than CC race....

Several years ago (back when I had spare time and a personal life), I looked into becoming a Civil War reenactor. I mean, I already had most of the guns I'd need and even a sword. But then I found out I couldn't use live ammo. So like, what's the point?
But anyway, it's fun for some... 150 years after the fact.

If it weren't for unification, Long Beach would be a ghost town regardless of whether it was Champ Car or the IRL. If LBGP would've dumped Champ Car for IRL, the IRL would've fallen just as flat as where Champ Car was headed. The fact sales are up comes as a direct result of the unification and only unification. So it really doesn't have anything to do with Champ Car vs. IRL. I've been going to LGBP for 10 years now and the last few years were dismal by comparison to earlier days, of course. Last year the excitement level was back and this year is shaping up to be awesome. Good to see.

Well when 16 of 22 drivers come directly from CC there will be support. There's still a couple original ICS guys/girl to get rid of.

Well of course attendance should be up from last year. There were 2 races going on and Champcar barely filled the field with 18 cars. Out of those 18, how many ran for just that one race??

Are you saying 16 of the 22 drivers entered in the race quit CC? I had no idea!!

You're the guy who told us that there would be many blank sidepods at St. Pete, right? We're still waiting for your answer. Exactly how many was that supposed to be again?

I wont get into the nastiness, but I will agree if there was no Unification, LBGP would be looking at dumping all the OW series and heading to an ALMS format or maybe putting a NASCAR Camping World race in. Who knows? I just know that if LBGP is up in ticket and suite sales, it has to be because there is no confusion in the marketplace. If someone wants to poke CC fans in the eye over this, I just will point out that before there was confusion in the marketplace, there was a good TV contract, more fans and no conflict of fan support...

you took the words right out of my keyboard!
I am glad that things are looking up for AOWR.
those of us who are determined to keep the memory of "the split" alive need to move on.... this thread is completely unnecessary....

It is not unnecessary. CC fanatics constantly moan about how bad the IRL is. Now and Indy fan is happy. Nothing wrong with this.
