I think this is a positive thing, a Ford Fiesta S2000 is a good for the WRC and rallying in general, PSA (Citroen will reamin the benchmark eve
n in this new class) but I have big hopes for Proton / Solberg combination - IF it happens.

Amazing pictures from the new RallyCross Fiesta! :D

Does anybody has any video of it?

Nope! Unveiled just yesterday, no videos available, only a few stationary pics yet. Andréas Eriksson is on his way to England now where the Fiesta Mk7 is doing his maiden ERC round on Easter Sunday and Monday at Lydden Circuit near Dover. My guess is 560–570bhp, although PR people talk about 600+bhp. However, with 45mm turbo restrictor I do not believe in more than 570bhp on the track. There is also a second one available, was offered to "Bosse" again, but seemingly no agreement so far…

Looking forward to the new Fiesta as it will certainly look nicer, sound nicer and have more exciting handling than the Focus WRC.

But have they really only just started work on it?

Maybe they should put a decent driver in the Fiesta for an IRC capaign in 2010 to see how it stacks up to the opposition before the new WRC rules take effect..

I would be surprised if there was a Fiesta S2000 in the British Rally Championship next year.

Maybe it'll make an appearance on this years Rally GB as course car??

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had the car by the beginning of 2010. The regulations for the suspension and modifying the body shell for 4WD are the same for WRC and S2000. Of course the geometry of the suspension will be different because Fiesta is smaller. The biggest challenge will be the engine.

For those who’s are interested of the RC Fiesta http://teamrs.aeston.no/

PS It seems that there are going to be at least one Fiesta R2 in Sweden.

It this a serious design from the BP Abu Dhabi Ford team or just a free design?
I noticed the BF Goodrich tyres under the car. Pirelli does not have the one tyre suplier contract in 2010 anymore :) ?

Much, much, much more better than the original design, which looks done by a drunk student. Ford should hire this guy.

Perhaps they should contact Ford Australia to ask them some advice - they have already built and ran a Fiesta S2000 for a whole year (before they pulled out) - last I heard the cars were still for sale to private buyers! M-Sport perhaps?? :)

I was on the Elmia Custom Motorshow in Jönköping,Sweden this weekend and Viktor Henriksson showed M-Sport´s Fiesta R2 . I Think the S2000 car will be pretty close to this car.

Not actually

For R2 it is not allowed to make any design changes

For S2000 it is allowed

From the homologation regulations.

- Widening of the wings/bumpers
Increase in the width by a maximum of 140 mm in relation to the maximum width of the family of the car (25000 units – art. 204a and 204b of the homologation form). This width must in all cases be limited to 1800mm.

It's a pitty that the Fiesta onm the WRC would have that noisy and horrible sound of the S2000 engines and an underpowered engine of 300hp. I will miss the sound of turbos

Sorry for being a little sarcastic, just like Jarek Z said in the ERC thread it all comes down to personal taste ;)

BTW don't you guys think that the Fiesta R2 looks kinda.....big and fat (with small wheels) ? :D

My vacuum cleaner makes a better sound than the Focus WRC, Citreon C4 WRC does sound good, almost normally aspirated sound, but the Focus...........well awfull

Right! I think that many hours in front of TV is the problem. :D

Last time I have seen a Focus WRC (two exactly, one 06 spec and one 07 spec) was last year in october in Rally Valli Pordenonesi e Piancavallo last year so not a long time ago and I remeber it having a very bad sound

RS
16th April 2009, 14:39
The Focus is terrible, probably most boring WRCar sound ever. It is quite similar to the 307 WRC, maybe no coincidence as both have motors developed Pipo. But the sound is very muffled, not agressive, and sounds like it is changing gear around 2000RPM the whole time. At least the Fiesta S2000 will sound faster, even though it will not be!

OldF
16th April 2009, 15:28
Right! I think that many hours in front of TV is the problem. :D

That holds true that the WRC cars sounds better live than in TV but about ten years ago the cars sounded good in TV also. I think all Citroen uses about 1000 rpm higher revs than the other ones and it seems to pay off regarding power. Maybe the secret of Citroen’s more powerful engine is to have the best volumetric efficiency on about 1000 rpm higher revs compared to the other ones.

RallyPT
16th April 2009, 20:34
I don't like the sound of Focus too!! It really don't have sound... (And I also saw it live). For sure, the S2000 will sound better!
The only WRC car that I like to hear is the Citroen C4!

It is so cute! The Fiesta kinda does look like a toad, but much faster ;)

Nenukknak
23rd April 2009, 14:20
okay that's it, scrap the fiesta, we can't have a "cute" rallycar ;) . Flame-spitting, lion-roaring, asphalt-scorching, gravel-eating, agressive-looking monsters, that's what a rallycar should look like. Sure the latest rallycars don't really look the part, but cute? Ah well might work.

For me atleast Ford have an already driven machine in the Fiesta. Ciroen's S2000 won't have had many miles.

The Fiesta's sales should be bumped up a bit too. I think the Focus is the hottest selling Ford. I have heard good stuff about it atleast.

Mads Ostberg has admitted he surprised himself with how quickly he got to grips with the Ford Fiesta S2000 on the recent Rally Germany. "The car is very different from what I have been used to, but I was really impressed. The chassis is great and suits me very well."

Looks like M-Sport finally gave up placing spare tyre behind rear axle. This solution is a source of of many discussions and was largely criticised for several good reasons like bigger body polar moment of inertia, possible danger for other cars when spare tyre is lost, and in case of S2000 especially bad cooling of catalic converter and exhaust which led to several fires earlier in the season. If I remember right Pentti was one of those who criticised this a lot.

Not everything requires their use, the use of new homologated packages.

Mirek

Of course but You can't do new homologations faster than rules allow. In that case You have to use jokers if they are allowed for particular parts.

M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta S2000 is set to get a winter upgrade, which company boss Malcolm Wilson hopes will make the car even more competitive next season.

Although Wilson wouldn’t go into specifics he said some of the learnings from the Fiesta-based World Rally Car, currently under development by M-Sport in preparation for its debut in 2011, would be transferred onto the S2000 derivative.

“What we’re leaning through testing with the WRC [Fiesta] we can transfer back and hopefully it will be even more competitive next season,” said Wilson. “We’ll be announcing the details [of the upgrades] before the end of the season.”
