Hi,

In less than two weeks(23rd february) is the first round of the 2007 portuguese championship, the Torrié rally...

First portuguese outing for the S2000 :p :

The official entrylist will be published after 16th february, but there's already a provisional one available on http://www.ralis.online.pt :)

Two foreign names are on it: south-african driver Conrad Rautenbach on a C2 S1600 and spanish driver Enrique Garcia-Ojeda on a 206 RC R3(that means A7 class) :D

Quite strange is the absences of the Toyota Corolla S2000 drivers Rodrigues and Sŕ...
For the moment only two S2000 drivers: Magalhaes(207) and Fontes(Grande Punto)

Among the GrN drivers favourites should be Peres and Teodosio...

I've read somewhere that Miguel campos is trying to find budget for this rally but he thinks he's almost unable to do it :(

Wim_Impreza

Tom,

Miguel Campos lost a few weeks ago a sponsor and Conrad Rautanbach is from Zimbabwe ;)

I found an article in polish about that rally...

http://www.autoklub.pl/14526,news.html?AKSID=23c7378c533b7cd2921a83fd51a1 15b8

What do they write in the last sentence about a whale from Grifone ???

It should be about a rumour that say Campos is trying to get the budget to run Vodafone Rally de Portugal with a 307 WRC from Grifone...

But.. I didn't know that Grifone has 307 WRC... you know if they really have 307 WRC ?

teufel
14th February 2007, 13:12
Last year Grifone had a contract with hungarian driver Spitzmüller to drive their "new 307WRC". But some weeks before the first race it became public, that they won't have any whale, so Spitzmüller was left in the dark...

Tom206wrc
14th February 2007, 14:31
Just look at my other thread about me asking news about what I've read on an italian forum... ;)

It seems this year there will be whales(at least one in fact for Gimondi) and why not from Grifone...??? :)

At the moment the big question is to know if the two Toyotas Corolla will arrive in time to start the rally. The team are doing a big effort to bring them. Some voices are saying that won't be possible to see this cars in the first round of the championship. Let's wait to see!

Tom206wrc

The Corollas go from south-Africa(where they are built and prepared) toward Portugal directly then ???

No Tom. I'm not sure but I Think they were prepared in England by RED. This team is a kind of agent to develop and sell the cars in Europe.

The Toyotas won't come to this rally.

Miguel Campos tried to find budget to run a 307 WRC from Bozian not Grifone.

Oh no !!! Sad :(

Jarek Z
21st February 2007, 14:49
Even without the two Toyotas the entry list looks good.
Sad thing is that Miguel Campos is not there. He's better than most drivers present on the entry list. I think he would find a good form again at the wheel of a S2000 car! He deserves such car!

Tom206wrc

JAM, Do you have already the oficcial confirmation?

I still don't have the confirmation, but the president of Portuguese Federation said on monday that only 2 S2000 will be on Ralli Torrié. I don't believe that Luiz Freitas would say that without knowning if was true or not... and can't say more... Let's wait for a confirmation today or tomorrow.

Tom206wrc

Interesting !!!

Vitor Sŕ and Antonio Rodrigučs will run rally Torrié but in Mitsubishi Lancer GrN instead of Corollas S2000 finally!!! ;)

Tom206wrc
21st February 2007, 21:17
Apparently Enrique Garcia-Ojeda would run other rallies(all on gravel)in Spain and Great-Britain with the 206 RC R3 he will use in Torrié

Yes it is confirmed. It will not be possible to have the Toyotas at the departure of rally. It seems the problem was an homologation document of left side wheel. They have tried to rent two toyotas from South Africa, but it failed too. The last chance was to rent two mistubishis. So we will see the Toyota boys running with two Mitsubishis...

Maybe not... I have a feeling that the portuguese Toyotas will be seen only in Rali FCP in May and as Toyota Auris S2000... I think on the commercial field the Corolla is almost out. As Toyota Portugal has interest in this project, they will not support an old car if the new one is available. I'm predicting the homologation of the Auris as S2000.

well, maybe you are right, but I don't believe that Toyota Portugal will lose the chance to show his cars in the biggest event of the year, The Rally of Portugal. In my opinion if they do that, it would be a big mistake for the image of this team and the sponsors. Can you Imagine Vitor Sá and António Rodrigues driving once again another car instead of the "old" Corolla in that rally?

Fontes lost almost 4 sec. in a small stage...

Ojeda was a little bit slow too ...

SS2 first results: Magalhaes 9s faster than Peres and Fontčs...

Tom206wrc
24th February 2007, 11:48
Gaps are incredible on a so short stage(7km long)

The trhree first are gathered within the 10s but after you jump at +27s and then +40s and so... :s

Excellent 7th best time for Garcia-Ojeda(fastest of the 2WD)...

Tom206wrc
24th February 2007, 12:12
First results SS3...

Bigger gap between Magalhaes(best time again)and the other ones...

Apparently retirement for Fernando Peres on that stage :mark:
Second best time for Punto S2000 driver on stage, Fontčs(+14s off Bruno)...

5th best time for Garcia-Ojeda far behind(+1m23s)...ahead of Vitor Sŕ

Other drivers haven't results yet...

Tom206wrc
24th February 2007, 12:49
After four stages(SS4), both S2000 are on the lead, Magalhaes ahead of Fontes, then come the GrN drivers Teodosio and Pascoal...

Excellent 5th overall for Enrique Garcia-Ojeda largely leading the 2WD :bounce:

yes good performance of the Two S2000.
At the moment the peugeot gearbox is working well!
All SS are very slippery with lot of mud.
Nice job also for Vitor Sá and Ojeda.
Bernardo Sousa the young driver of Madeira Island is out of race because he had problems on suspension of his Mistubishi.

Nice coverage by radio:

Well, don't forget Vitor Sá is a tarmac specialist and he is not a young driver. he is doing only the third season on Portuguese Championship.
Here in Madeira Island we don't have gravel roads. So in my opinion he is doing more than I expect for this rally!

JAM

SS6 was canceled due to bad cndition of the surface

Some news are being posted here:

http://www.speedsin.com/sportmotores/viewforum.php?f=8

With all this mud the less weight of S2000 makes some diference. Fernando Peres was the only one who was able (as expected) to run at the same level, but had an off on the SS4 and spent more than 10 minuts to put the car on the road again.

Vitor Sá is making a very good rally, better than expected. Garcia Ojeda was surprised when people said to him that he was on the top10 :D surprised and with a big smile

It will be very difficult, if not impossible, for Fontes to catch Magalhaes. There are only 3 stages left (30 km in total) and the difference between them is 30 seconds...

Excellent 5th position and victory in the 2WD for Enrique Garcia-Ojeda :bounce: who finishes in front of Pedro Leal winning the diesel class...

Apparently there's a problem for the final results... :s

Four drivers, including the S2000s and Garcia-Ojeda, would have joind the road after the cancelled stage(SS7) without pointing at the control, or something like this, and they could be disqualified for this(if I have well understood what happened)... :mark:

That was a really huge accident. I was there and to see the car rolling at that speed in that place was frightful, but when we saw the car going to the hole... Happily the car went to the hole with the front and that reduced the impact. The rollbar was intact after that :)
