Great news!!
It's official, Ryan Hunter-Reay is signed by Vision Racing. Vision is owned by Tony George, the president/CEO of the IRL. The complete details of the contract are being finalized but he is signed and will be in the 2009 IndyCar season.
IZOD who is a sponsor for the IRL was using Ryan for thier advertising and promotional events, it only makes sense he was in a full-time ride this year.
Not to mention, Ryan got his first IndyCar win at Watkins Glen last year and was the 2008 Rookie of the Year.
Ryan did test with HVM this week but will be moving over to Vision Racing. Ed Carpenter will be his teammate!!
I am so excited!

Robin Miller went into some more detail on it:

Between putting PT in a ride at Edmonton and giving RHR a full year deal, I have to give TG credit. It's a shame that it took this long to get the RHR deal done, but with his Sebring test yesterday and Vision's quality equipment, I think he'll be up to speed fairly quickly.

Kind of a ***** move for him to pull on Wiggins. Keith pulled out of an open test, paid for a private test that ended up cutting his driver out of a day's worth of seat time and the Ryan goes to Vision.

I'm wondering if teams interested in Ryan had a deadline to put a deal together and if they couldn't then TG would run him in a second car. Having the series owner sign him makes it seem that no one else could put the funding together. If TG was dead set on signing him, he could have done so much sooner to reassure IZOD.

That's probably what the deal was. IRL management had been pretty clear to say that the league isn't subsidizing anyone's efforts this year, and so if they were going to turn and pay for Ryan to get a seat at HVM it would would awkward to say the least. On some levels its better to have an owner fund a car out of his own pocket then to the owner of the series pay the bills for a driver at another team.
The only downside is there will actually be someone at Vison I like as a person now.
