It seems that formar cycle worldchampion Paolo Bettini is planning to start in Ypres this year with Fiat Punto S2000. His codriver would be Balerini, the actual coach of the Italian national cyclesquad. ;)

That sounds like very good news! According to Autonews, there would be more than 20 s2000's at the start.

So (from another forum):

Meeke, Loix, Vouilloz, Fontana, Lavio, BF Goodrich (Debackere?), Betti, Solowow with Peugeot
Basso, Alen, Bettini (..) with Fiat
Duval, Kopecky, Haninen with Skoda
Maurin, Waldner with VW
MacHale with Opel?
Stephenson with MG?
Wilks with Proton?

That's 19.. I can hardly wait to see the competition in Ypres this year. With probably the best startfield of the season so far. Anyone could win it, but I'd tip Duval. :p

Yes, he can. But dont forget, that this is professional team, which has his own rules. At the beginning of the season they have made a plan of starts, which was agreed from their chiefs and they gave money to team. If they want to change their plans, it isnt so easy from many circumstances.

That is good news after the disappointment of no live coverage from Azores. I think Ypres will lend itself well to the live stage footage as it should be fairly easy to follow the cars by helicpoter.

Was my desire, Kalzoro.
But this year now only Madeira, I hope.

In the 90s I was a big fan of Belgian rallyes. I still have VHS tapes with highlights recorder from satellite TV. Condroz, Boucles de Spa, Ypres, Wallonie and other events. Patrick Snijers with the Bastos Escort RS, Paul Liatter with the Crack Escort, Bernard Munster with the clio Williams and the Maxi were the pilots of the time. Belgian still have the two rallye championship: the International and the National?

Hey Luis, we now have only one major championship, with a lot of regional rally's aside of the championship. Boucles de Spa doesn't excist anymore (at least not with modern cars, only historics), but for the rest we still have the rally's like Tielt, Bocholt, Wallonie, Ypres, Omloop van Vlaanderen, Haspengouw and Condroz. Hope you will enjoy Ypres next month, even if you cannot be here live. ;)

Thanks Walter. I confess that quite a long time ago I don´t follow many foreign championships.

Did you know that in some years Ypres were run at the same weekend of Azores Rallye :D

I don´t know if some of you remember but in the 90´s there was a TV channel called "Super-Channel". At that time I watched every friday the Go-International Motorsport programme and the resumes of belgian, netherlands and danish rallyes. The Ypres highlights were always one of my favourite. I remember very well Bruno Thiry with the Opel Astra some times and the huge battle between Freddy Loix and Verreydt with the Marlboro Celica´s one time. Kankkunen's participation I also remind and his early retired because he lost a wheel but I frankly no longer remember in what year.

I think with the inscriptions of them, that it's 99 % sure is that they start, because they can still wait a few days to confirm the inscription and payment, and they already did it now so...

Hanninen isn't on the entry list yet, because something of the papers went wrong during the inscription and will now be solved and then he will be added to the list :)

Don't underestimate Basso. He is very fast on tarmac. The question is his car not his skills. Don't forget he was able to fight for title even with Fiat last year and also to win Sanremo and Asturias.

I still think that Freddy will be extremely hard to catch. He is very strong in Ypres while Duval never achieved anything there.

[quote="mousti"]Test of Freddy Loix and Kris Meeke today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvtP64Xo7DY

Freddy drove better times than Meeke but that's obvious because it's Meeke's first time here. [quote]

I think Meeke find it hard to match Freddie with his knowledge of stages. But to me in video Meeke looks more committed, and loading car slightly more.
