Fontana and Betti are changing positions almost every stage. :)

I hope there won't be teamorders by Kronos.

OldF
20th June 2009, 17:46
But as Mirek says, you can see quite visibly the Punto has a much weaker engine, particularly on low down torque (where I think the Fabia might be better than the 207 even)

Anton Alen once said in an interview that below 7000 rpm there’s not much torque in the Punto. I think at the time of the interview the “old” engine was in use.

I beleive they only do Russia, Barum and Sanremo for the 2009 IRC. Kroos is not doing Russia, but Abarth will. But Skoda should outpace the Grande Punto, so have Kopecky collect a valuable amount of points

Maybe but it wasn't so much bad luck for Loix as driving error, he went off the road and broke a rim. Felt under pressure from Meeke perhaps? Loix admitted that it was his own fault.

What a great rally! Also great you can follow the results on the radio (that is typical in Belgium), so we didn't miss a thing on the stages...
Awesome result of Meeke, he can put himself next to others like Toivonen and Rosetti, who won with there first start at Ypres. This result of Meeke can be very high rated! Batle until the end. Pitty Jan Kopecky slowed down because of concentration problems because of the accident and because he lost time behind Vouilloz (2x).

Well, another excellent event, just a shame it was the first time we failed to finish, !! Digs already booked for next year !!

Had major intercom problems, and could not heard any of the notes on Friday, over the noise in the car being amplified !! Made a tad better at first service, with some tank foam !!! but still ended up a off junction slip road for a minute or so in the dark on the last Friday stage,, along with the lack of commitment on the quicker bits !!!
Spun the car on the last hairpin on SS9, when we recon first gear stripped in the gearbox, as game over for us i am afraid !!

If anyone has any shots of the Fiesta, they would be appriaciated !!

Was a pleasure to applaud Kris back in the square last night,, Very well done,,
Felt sorry for Guy going out on SS5, after a long chat in a restaurant Monday evening,, The Proton certainly looked impressive

Welcome to Belgium! :D

The ... safety rules (fill in the adjective yourself :D ) in that part of the country obliges that red/white tape at every corner, at least 10m away from the road. As it's described in the law as a "zone", it should be taped as a square, hence the tape along the road. However, the reason why they have to zigzag the tape in the zone escapes me. It's annoying for photographers, it slows down people who need to cross the area, it's more work to remove. the tape along the road is quite useless too, surely everyone understands where to stand with one bit of tape. I tried one of the press areas, I abandoned that idea soon enough, seems they though photographers like pics taken behind a concrete pole, tape and advertising signs. :D The only way to get something decent is avoiding them, and possibly the "public areas" too.

The rules are more relaxed in the south, you're more likely to see the opposite (although they're getting the hang of it too).

HaCo
22nd June 2009, 19:07
Well, in Flanders red/white tape is something that is obliged by the governement and that is just how it is. I even heard the color should be red/white by law! The size of safety zones in also defined by law.

The problem with Ypres Rally is that it is one of the biggest in Flanders and it is taken as an example for the others: if they can't do it right, why would others be possible to do so? In '95 someone hit spectators and one was killed in Ypres, since then it's going this way. It was a tragic accident, but the green parties try to take advantage of it (and other accidents of course) to forbid rallying in general, cause it fits in there green mind.

This is a bit of history why it has become the way it is. It looks and probably is over sized, but I'm sure it has saved lives and maybe the sport as well, for now.

HaCo

Vouilloz's retirement was due to Solowow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7FHS6rnTu8&feature=rec-HM-fresh+div

Seems very unfair of Solowow, because he wasn't able to get any points at that moment and Vouilloz had still the chance for getting some for his own and Peugeot

IMHO it was VERY stupid retirement from Nicolas.

He got behind Michal just few seconds before. It's not easy to see anything behind You in S2000 mirrors and You can't expect that everyone knows about You immediately when You catch him, especialy not on straight. I don't see any reason why it should be unfair. I believe he didn't knew about him in such a short moment.
