It seems like the best idea.. It was so many drivers (3 per team at least) before turning to this stupid 2 nominated drivers rule..

Agreed.
It should be the top 3 drivers from a manufacturer that score points regardless of who it is. It would actually liven up what is a boring two horse race. Dont try and fool people by having all these smaller teams fighting for the scraps.

If I recall right, it was set to balance the drivers to all teams so the richest teams, like Citroen and Peugeot wouldn't hire all the best drivers, like they did. Unfortunately the days when there were six or seven teams are long gone....

Completely agree, and it could mean the return of the Tarmac/Snow/Gravel Specialist.

It seems to me that the WRC needs to go back to make progress - what was wrong with the WRC up until about 1997-98??

After 2003 season the rule was set to allowe all teams to fight for the manufacturer championship starting leveled. This is because some teams always had three cars per event (for example, in 2003 Peugeot was with Gronhölm, Burns R.I.P. and Rovanperä-Panizzi, and Citröen with Sainz, Loeb and McRae R.I.P.), while some other teams could only run two cars (such as Skoda that same year).

Also, the insertion of this rule ended up in the retirement of many drivers because they couldn't find a proper seat. Colin had to exit the WRC before his two events return in 2005 because he couldn't get a manufacturer team who could hire him after Rally GB 2003. Panizzi had to go to Mitsubishi, which ended his tarmac winning days with Peugeot...

The rule was set because of budget issues of some teams. This is not F1! If you have the money, you should run three crews!

If you have budget, you should be able to hire all the best drivers and field a hundred cars? No...

Agreed. For me this was the beginning of the downfall of the WRC.

Yes 100% agree. Personally I would add dropping the manufactorer championship. Mixing 2 championships will always be bad. Make the rules so the manufactorers are not needed to build the cars. This way, any team could pick any car they wanted to use and build rally cars from them. More like Group N is today. Prodrive, M-sport and others can still develop, build and sell cars if they want

If needed, use team points instead and NO nominations

I think that the best way to do it is to score points for the two top placed drivers from a team, no matter how many are there competing from one manufacturer.

Which - again - would lead to richest team flooding the entry list with best drivers and effectively "buy" the title.

Yes but now we have only one driver :) , it wouldn`t be that bad if we would have some more "best drivers"
