View Full Version : Would AOWR be better off...

...if CCWS had stayed in business for another two or three years? Or would OWR be worse off?
This thread is for all of you that like to second guess, live in the past, and ask "what if"? This thread is for all of those that have no faith in TG, for those of you that seem to believe the patient (AOWR) is terminally ill.
My question to you. Would OW be in a better position if CCWS had stayed above ground another few years? Or was CCWS just a bad idea all the way around once CART went BK?
If you don't think CCWS should have stayed solvent then what other practical, realistic solutions do you have to improve OWR's share in todays market place? Just asking...

Answer 1;
Following Germany's reunification I suppose there were political types from both the right and left unhappy with the way things worked out. Fortunately for Germany the public didn't dwell on it.
Answer 2;
Picking scabs in the post-op setting only increases the likelihood of long-term infection. So why pick at 'em?

Effective immediately, if an engine meets all IRL technical regulations, then you are free to use any engine supplier that you choose without the need to supply any of the field.
Effective immediately, you are free to improve the aerodynamics of the nose, cowl and wings.
Effective immediately, ticket prices to all events will be reduced by 30%.
Effective immediately, the Indy 500 will begin 1 hour earlier in order to allow NASCAR drivers ample time to pull a double event.

Bruce. I agree with you. It's just that it seems every other thread has someone seem to be insinuating that "If only such and such had not happened we'd be better off".
I'm asking to let's keep all of the "what if's" in one thread and to leave them out of all of the other discussions.

A year after Kevin and Tony shook hands with their collective group of drivers standing behind them smiling, and folks are still arguing the war???

Only some who a)can't get over the fact that their side lost or b)can't get over the fact that their side won.
The rest of us have moved on and continue to encourage those from a or b above to do so as well. Obviously, that isn't working out too well.

I don't think Champ Car would have survived the storm that begun last fall. There would be one series in 2009 anyway.

Bruce, you're kidding, right? : ). Read some of the threads.
Me? I've moved on and am looking towards a bright future. I do occasionally get dragged back in when someone will post, "But yeah, the way the other series (CART or CCWS) used to do it was so much better". It's then I feel obliged to remind them that they both went out of business because of the way they did things.

Frankly the real question is : wwhy does dd keep bringing cc into the discussion
can those that were on the irl side years ago simply not evalaute todays irl on its own merits?

And for all the yeasayers, leaving aside unification, what's the single most important decision that TG has made since Toyota left the series that warrants your unquestioning faith in him?

And yet you see no incongruity in those two statements? <shakes head>

CC was comatose when it was mercifully terminated, nothing to survive.

If the IRL isn't comatose, then it's in rehab with Courtney Love because neither of them have been seen anywhere for months.

Some of those ideas were fairly good. Great ways to build buzz. Most can't happen as they require giveaways by promoters other than Indy. Now, if they'd been built into the track contracts from the beginning, that's a different story. Of course it's never too late to go back and try to get it added. Could be beneficial to all.
If the series backs the cost of doing any of these, what promoter in his right mind would NOT participate?

Come on now, there has to be one important decision TG has made! Isn't there?

Given how it was being run, it may not have even survived the entire 2008 season.

I actually only have two people on my ignore list. Threads look pretty funny when you take those two out of the equation. : ). It's like they have a competition over who can agree with the other the most. : )
This thread has one main purpose. To take all of the "What if's?" & "Coulda shoulda woulda's..." out of all of the other threads so those who want can discuss the racing that is going on in 2009 without having to drag up crap that happened 10 years ago. My point is if you've got a beef with TG or the IRL I suggest this is the thread to vent.

That makes three of us, and unless I am also on the ignore list, he can now. I wonder how his push to get all the "What ifs" out of the other threads is going? Probaly about as well as the self restraint that would be required to stop "having to drag up crap that happened 10 years ago". <shakes head>

what's even funnier than him being aware of us being agreeable when we are on ignore....
is that I got to thinking... why I was certainly aware of Rex as a poster i simply couldn't remember ever having a direct discussion or interaction with him..
so i checked out my history over the past 3 or months or so....
until we agreed on the 'what if the IRL folds thread' that it was possible to be afan of the racing of the IRL while still being realistic in evaluating it from a biz standpoint we had never had any direct interaction....no 'quotes' of each others posts... no Q&A... nothin...
as usual D's post (and this thread) boil down to agenda.....his own
