View Full Version : Tech3 tantrums

It seems there is a bit of needle in the Tech3 Yamaha MotoGP camp.
At the end of season 2008 the Crew Chief's (CC) were switched, Toseland got Edwards CC and vise-versa.
Now CE2 has come out and said he is not speaking to Toseland. Not only that, he has verbally trashed his old CC in favour of new CC Guy Coulon, who is of cause Toseland's ex CC.
Edwards even went into print saying: "We looked good in front of him, (Toseland) being 2.5 seconds off the pace at Sepang".
Toseland had earlier in the week had a high speed tumble which he called 'the biggest' crash of his career.
Appears Tech3 have a major issue on their hands and the season has not even begun.
How will this affect Tech3's performance?

This may be just what Tech 3 needs to get them going. Team mates trying to outshine each other and taking the fight up to the front of the pack, in a bitter fued. Bring it on. Welcome to Motogp James, better start practicing those Blues Ballads mate :cheese:

To think that people have been talking up feuding between Rossi and Lorenzo or Rossi and Stoner when this little beauty of a falling out has bubbled over to make the others look like a primary school tiff. :)

Well...............one good thing to come of the various past conflicts will be that it could make for some interesting on-track duels between those involved.

Edwards needs to be knocked out of his comfort zone, perhaps this is just what the Doctor ordered :D

I agree, he does need to be knocked out of his comfort zone. What we'll see though is him slipping backwards through the field as I can't see him near the front.

Hey......fair go with putting Colin Edwards down over this issue and his comments...................Let's get the facts straight.
Toseland poached Edwards' crew chief, neither the crew chief nor Toseland had the bloody decency to be upfront about it and conspired then did the deal leaving Edwards completely in the dark.
I would have wrapped Toseland's guitar around his ears and have put mustard on Edwards' old crew chief's toilet paper for the underhanded way they went about that .
As for Edwards' comments on the Indianapolis web site, they were made in response to specific questions put to him about the issue by whoever the interviewer was.
The issue occupied only one-third of the entire blog as copied below.

Do you have a new crew chief this year?
Yeah, I traded with James (Toseland).
How is that working out?
I thought I was pretty happy last year with my crew chief (Gary Reynders). They co-conspired to kind of stick it in my (rear), if you want to say that. They decided for my crew chief to go to James, and James decided that my crew chief was better than his. His crew chief last year, I'm with now, and he's frickin' awesome. His name is Guy, Guy Coulon, and he's awesome. He's got so much experience. I think he's been doing it since early 70s. I'm really happy. I'm a lot happier with my crew chief. It's just so relaxed. I don't have to stroke (my crew chief's) ego like I did last year. Everybody's just so relaxed, just happy to be riding motorcycles.
It sounds like what could have been a bad deal has turned into a good deal. Correct?
Yeah, as they say, the light in the dark is the silver lining or whatever it might be. It seems to have worked out really well for our side of the team, with my crew chief and with me. I think everybody is happier than we were last year.
But JT (Toseland) is no longer on the Christmas card list?
No, no. He's not on the Christmas card list whatsoever. It's funny. We don't talk anymore after this little incident. We looked good in front of him, (Toseland) being 2 ½ seconds off the pace (at Sepang). That was good times. You should hear some of the comments being made. He got the crew chief he wanted. That was going to make all the difference in the world, and we just sit and laugh. We have a good time.

Not so much putting Edwards down as simply alluding to his general 'also-ran' career status for the past few years. He's an awesome rider and certainly one of the best WSB racers I've ever seen, and he's been solid in MotoGP without being spectacular (not helped by his unofficial status as both Rossi and Michelin test guy), but if he's going to punch out a few decent finishes before he hangs up the helmet he's got to do it now rather than later. And if something occurs that puts a fire under his arse, then that's got to be good for him.
Good info there, I've been getting a bit toey waiting for the season to kick off - nice to see a bit of pre-season soap opera drama going on :)

As far as Colin Edward's motogp career goes I have been amazed at times how many points he has at the end of a season as to me he doesn't seem to be doing much. I realise he's done it by being consistent, not crashing and placing well enough for reasonable points. He probably averages about 7th placing now.
Thinking it over, I don't think we'll see him get caught up in on track dramas with Toseland, he's been around too long for that and is coming to the end of his career, why risk crashing and injuries. He'll probably stay within his comfort zone. My prediction for Toseland is that he'll be back in WSBK 2010 or 11.

Its an interesting time in the careers of both riders. Edwards trying to prolong his and Toseland trying to progress his.
The added motivation of trying to beat one's team mate should never be under estimated.
Most damaging is the potential lost data sharing. I don't envisage these guys, including crews discussing what works and what doesn't.
