Hi,

Next IRC round, as we all know, will be held in Brazil at the start of march...

But for now I can't find ANY websites for this event

I tried on two of the biggest brazilian motorport websites http://www.cronospeed.com.br/ and http://www.mundorally.com.br and nothing on them about Curitiba rally :mark:

Any help would be appreciated...thanks ;)

If its a shared shipping event with the WTCC it is a shame they wont bomb round the race track for a stage to open or close the rally.

]1200 Eur for entry and only 678 km overal is good for crews. Pitty that it's overseas :(

the entry isn't 1200 €... in official website there is R$1200
In fact that is about 487 € ;)

but you must sum R$200 of insurance so total is:
around 569 €

In Madeira Island.. a local event that count only for local champ. coast almost that value (without insurance) they want to put 450 € entry fee... :s :smokin:

Mirek

Yes, that's realy low cost. In Czech International Championship entry is approximately from 450 to 900 Eur.

For F1 it might work for FIA to push it into new continents, but for a more or less privateer championship, this is the result. I agree IRC should stay in europe, where more or less all teams/drivers are based !

Yes, but in Brasil they are trying to make a experiment - do WTCC and IRC in the same place, with similar TV coverage. We will see how it will works...

the problem is not for the works team as Peugeot and Abarth, its more for the smaller teams and private teams that will have to miss their cars for more then 1 1/2 month... But i agree that it will be a nice event.. and the Transport arangements are OK...

]FIA is not organizer of IRC. Eurosport Events may use whatever name they want.

However, it is FIA-approved so it's name must be approved by FIA for its events to be included on the international calendar. Eg. it may not use the word, 'championship'.

A World Championship needs to run on at least 4 continents - with more than 2 Manufacturers, so the WRC is hardly qualified for that status - it has in fact got a waiver.

I read the new on IRC site at portuguese 02.10pm and imediatelly contactated Vitor. He tought i was joking... :D

He can't understand how this happened and at the midle of the afternoom was trying to make some contacts to clarify the situation.

The Amarante Rally Team send a press-realease to the media dennying the presence in Brasil.

I tryed to contact the brasilian organizers, but didn't receive any answer.

This story is unbelievable.

Someone (not the team) sent the entry using the official site of the rally last Monday, the organization accepted it without any confirmation and updated the entry list after it was published. It was a joke and the organizers take it as true without any contact from or with Vitor Pascoal.

Now both have a problem. Vitor has a problem with the negative image of the situation, and the organizers too.

Pascoal is very upset with all the situation.

Quite surprized to see that Argentinean Tango Rally Teams, entried both Evo 10 of Ligato and Cancio as IRC entries too.
They may take some points ou of the S2000, if their new Evo 10 (just finished for forst round of Argentinean Championship this weekend) can work well.
Take a lok at the Paraguayian Galeano who has experience in this round (not like the Argentineas, I guess Ligatocan have rallies here once, but not sure)

IIRC, in the first year IRC was called 'International...'. I wonder why they changed? Was it because of 'advice' from FIA or clever marketing by Eurosport, as 'intercontinental' is almost the same meaning as 'world'?

what are the predictions for this rally? will Team Tango with it's extensive PWRC experience be able to match the speed of IRC regulars? reviews say that the new lancer evo X has better handling and weight distribution than the previous one - it should be closer to s2000.

I don't think so. S2000 are nowdays much too strong for Subaru and Mitsubishi, even if it is called Evolution (known as X). Which is not good, they should be competitive. Ahh, FIA ... :arrows:

Tom206wrc

wwbroe

Yes, but they should be more radical.

I don't agree with that, i think it is allready pitty that they increased weight. As a matter of fact a S2000 car is a real racecar, build with the purpose of rallying. A group N car is an upgrated roadcar wich is something totaly different. But i agree with you that it is problem that they are running under the same category, and therefore the FIA is to blame. They should have made different categories for Gr. N and S2000 instead of making them run in one same category. ;)

modri dirkac
3rd March 2009, 12:42
That's my point: if they are running in the same category, they should be (more or less) equal. Otherwise there is no point for Mitsubishi or Subaru to compete in rallying (PWRC, local championships, ...). Waste of time and money, and money nowdays is a problem for japanese car makers. ;)

Mirek
3rd March 2009, 14:15
You have to see it also from manufacturer's point of view. S2000 is 3x more expensive. If it is equal to gr.N in speed because of additional weight etc., noone buys it and S2000 cars would than die. That would be the worst way to go. Making separate class is way easyier and much more reasonable.

Tango Team will be using EVO IX, they still have not made the debut of heir Evo X.
Last weekend the first round of Argeninean Championship was held, Tango cars were up the speed wih Villagras Evo X, Madero (Tango Team) finally won the event on the last special, wih a 2 second margin.

I doubt they got the speed to match top S2000, but are able to fight for podium.
Cancio is currently faster than Ligato (now no only driver, but co-owner and manager of Tango Team), butnew to Brazil.
Ligato was there some 8 yeas ago, not sure if that couldbe so usefull

Ligato is not local, he is from Argentina. Only drove this event in 2000, and specials are different. I do not see any clear advantage over europeans.
Additionally they were not ready with the Evo X, so turned back to the Evo IX.

I know ligato is not local, thats pretty obvious (duuh) , specially as I met the guy during rally mexico, so I would've be making a big mistake there. I was refering to the Brazilians. thats why I left some space between sentences.

Brazilian do not have much history and experience in rallying, it is growing but not asdeveloppedas in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and also as in Chile and Peru.
There are fewBR drivers that got to rally in international or regional events.

They have agood market, and the country is very suitablefor rallying, so the conditionsfor a rapid growing in Brazil are there.

In tha last years he sport has been growing rapidly, even with some automakers involvement (in N2 VW, Fiat, and GM),so hey will develop drivers and teams much faster.

I consider Rafael Tulio as a very fast Brazilean, but he is running in a 1,6 2wd car.
Futcher is a traditional BR driver (not young now),and Scheer is said to be fast, but I haven´t followed his times, so cannot say much more about it.

Unfortunatley it is confimed that Ligato not only suffered a puncture, but had to retire:

IRC site: "Ligato, who was for many years a frontrunner in the Production Car World Rally Championship, was running sixth overall on the Rally Internacional de Curitiba, having set fifth-fastest time on the opening three stages.

The puncture on SS4, which he did not stop and change, cost him a minute and a half so he dropped one place to sixth, behind Peugeot Belgium's Freddy Loix.

However, it soon became apparent that there was more far-reaching damage to his Mitsubishi when the car overheated on the road section. With a broken radiator, Ligato's rally is now over. "

Pitty, cause if he lost 1m 30s meant he was not far for finish, if he had stopped, with some 4 muntes to change wheel he would have been out of the battle also................

We will see today, because Meeke is now opening the stages i suppose. The stages today are a little less fast and more technical, so we will see what that gives in the timesheets. Two hours to go to the first stage of the day, wich is the longest of the rally and will be run only once. ;)

Abarth driver Anton Alen has rolled out of SS9 on the Curitiba Rally, whilst attempting to make up time lost following suspension damage yesterday . According to his father, Markku, the car went off the road and the damage makes it impossible to continue. Story behind Meeke's loss of time from his blog:

Kris lead has been cut this morning, running first on the road has been tough, but more of an issue was the refuel after SS1 was within 100m of stage end and the brakes started boiling, he had very little brakes for next two stages, and the hand brake went as he was using it to slow the car. Service now though so those problems should be sorted.
On the last stage SS10, he met 3 motorbikes and a child walking on road, the problem appears to be too big a gap between zero cars, and the main field. Hopefully will be addressed for last loop.
3 stages remaining, but they are all relatively short stages. Kris picked the hard tyre for this mornings loop, while the other drivers picked the soft option, but they were complaining of the tyres moving and concerned with tyre wear, so unsure wheather Kris will choose these for the last loop.
90% of the last loop of stages are re-run of this mornings, so hopefully the sweeping of the gravel will not be an issue

Simmi
7th March 2009, 13:45
I'm getting nervous now for Kris. Hopefully the road sweeping isn't as bad on the two repeat runs after service, but then there is a fairly long final stage that could make all the difference!

Also very poor performance from Alen. Surely with barely any entrants the priority is to bring it to the finish. Not go off twice.
