Jack Roush ask NASCAR for a rule change & they said a big NO !!!
Jack will have to lose a team at the end of 2009.

Hes had how many years to sort this out?. He's just trying his luck, they'll just transfer one car over to Yates.

:dozey: NA$CAR hopes so.
It looks like NA$CAR will have problems fielding 43 car grids this year.
The Woods Borthers are plannig to only run 12 events this year.
Next year doesn't seem likely to be better.

Does Mark Martin and his wife still own Matt Kenseth's car?I thought he did, could be wrong. But there should be a cap on hoe many teams an owner is allowed.

No, Martin was bought out when he retired from the #6, just before the Fenway sale.

Ya can't blame a guy for trying, can ya? When NASCAR passed the rule everything was rosey. Now the economy sux, so we'll see if NASCAR holds their ground or "reacts for the sake of reacting"

:dozey: With todays rules... NA$CAR doesn't need 43 cars on the grid...
but they do need ~ 36 !!!
 Family France may have a tough time getting 36 competitive cars... week in & week out, unless changes are made.

I feel Roush, Hendrick, Childress, Gibbs, etc should be permitted & encouraged to run 5 teams ... http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/eek.gif
if the team owners can draw the sponsors, NASCAR should allow them to field 5 cars IMO ... :D
full 43 car fields is the goal & if the big teams can field 5 cars each it would help reach that goal. http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/icon6.gif

at +$60k just for showing up I think they'll get the cars, uncompetitive or not.

With so many good race enginneers and crew members out of work, a small team with a modest amount of money could hire some decent guys and make a name for themselves. I dont like the 5 car team thing, 4 is probably enough.

:dozey: Some cars were "showing up" during the past coupe of years and when the press found out, this proved to be an "Embarrassment" to NA$CAR !!!
 Sometimes these "show-up" teams didn't even have the money for a second set of tires. Many withdrew their cars for... suspension failure/poor handling, at the first pit-stop. NASCAR went along with this with a nod-nod/wink-wink, in order to fill out the grid.
;) This info was published in one of the national auto magazines just a few weeks ago. Making NA$CAR's opperation look like a small time carnival...
So now the cars need to be "Competitive", otherwise expect the Press to jump all over NA$CAR.

I have a question regarding the thread, wouldnt it make sense for the field filler teams to merge with the big boys?Or just drop them.

Most of the independent cars have had deals with the top teams. The new field filler teams are trying to go on ten cents on the dollar and may not be worth it to the big teams. Also most of the big teams with resources are maxed out at 4 (or Roush's 5) teams already.

I'd just like to point out that Roush could have dropped the 5th team while the COT was being phased in and saved himself one fifth the cost of building new cars.

And the cost of McMurray wrecking one each week.

sssh!!!! Jack doesn't want THAT little nugget of truth out there.
Jack is trying to win against NASCAR because he has NEVER once won an argument with them. This is a much to do with Jack's ego as anything else. We all know that a team will slide over to Yates after this year and Jack doesn't want to make that decision if he can weasel out of it.
The thing is, Yates is running Roush Chassis and building the motors with Roush (something that Yates knows as well or better than Jack) so this isn't a bad thing for a team to be moved over to Yates. Also, with Roush basically running the organization that is scraping up sponsors for Yates as well as his own operations, the only difference will be on who is signing the checks at th end of the week.
For those who think by the way they wont have 43 cars, first off start and parks will fill the field...and I am asking any of you to remember the last time you counted the cars in the midst of the first lap when they are roaring by. As long as the number of teams guarnteed starting spots is 35, you can bet there will be 36 or better cars race in and race out and we all know at least 22 cars can win at most weekends if things fall their way. THAT is hardly the sign of a weak racing series....

There is still a massive gulf in performance between Roush and Yates. Yates' top car finished 23rd in standings. Yates seem to build a good engine but their chassis are lacking, what is the information sharing between the two orgnisations like?.

What killed Yates is the lack of money to do the testing and fine tuning. The difference between a Yates car and Roush was refining and testing. This year, with the Menards money and the sponsors with the HOF/Yates Labonte 96, that gap will close....

Lets hope so, the more cars that are in a position to perform well the more close racing we'll get to see.
