I'll try to take part, but I don't know if I'll be able to do it. I'm in the middle of moving to the other side of the country and don't know how much PC time I'll have in the next few days. So maybe I'll have to skip the Monte, but in that case I'll be doing some rounds later in the year.

It looks like a really challenging itinerary you came up with, Tannat ...

This looks similar to that test rally we had a few weeks ago. I was happy with some stage times on the test, but need to curb my limits on the longer stages, I think. I haven't yet decided what car I'll be pioneering for the rally (i.e what skin) but it will definitely be S2000 category. When the Peugeot comes available, I may switch to using that anyway, I will see.

Well done kabouter

The Peugeot is great around the stages, but I still crash way too much!

Did our shakedown in the Pug and was really impressed by the car's handling. Used a similar set up to the C4 in WRC and with some minor tweaks it seems to be working well. Although how that will relate to the snowier stages is anyone's guess!!!

Basic Set up:
Suspension - hardest setting
Power - -2 to rear
Brake bias - -1 towards rear
Gearbox - -1 towards shorter

2:48.23
2:55.11...had a meeting with a wall!
2:46.70...switched brake balance further towards the rear - seemed to allow cleaner turn in and shortened the gear ration further.
2:51.11...messy run and missed a gear change!

Think there's more to come as i'm losing hefty chunks of time every sector compared to my WRC times on this stage.

Puma skinned as Peugeot 207 S2000.
Getting mixed up as I'm practising Italy with the Ford for the WRC competition. One surprise is that I go about 2 secs a kilometre faster in the Ford than the Puma/Peugeot - let's hope its the same for others!

As for the stage format - I think it's much better. Good variety and more fun.

I must just have a better feel for the Focus? As an example, my shakedown with Puma was 2.54.60, but I went to 2.48.12 with the Focus!

Anyway - Day 2 complete. Much better day - wet stages with dry tyres went better than expected (even a PB on SS6!). And my snow run went very very well. Another PB by 2 secs despite not using snow tyres - the sliding is fun and apparently fast.

Day 1- a good drive, no major errors
Day 2-lost our composure a bit, made a silly mistake at a junction on Italy SS5
and lost control of the car multiple times on SS7

Day3-A par performance. Our tome on Italy SS10 in the drizzle was the same as in storm conditions due to another junction error

Think a class win is out of the cards.... :(

Finished the event....tough rally!!

Day 1 was really good, got into a groove but couldn't get near my WRC times, which I thought would be possible. But still the 207 felt very good and we set good times.

Day 2 was also pretty good...slip sliding away on some stage but that was just fun! Got on to the grass only once but that was enough to lose a good few seconds on the tyres we had. Other than that the stage times seemed pretty decent on the stages with drizzzle.

Day 3 hitting the snow and ice again was a challenge but negotiated without too much drama. I felt at times like I was crawling with stage times so far off the best WRC times with the right tyres that it's hard to know if we cracked the stage perfectly or are off the pace compared to everyone else!!

Italy Stage 10 seems to be the hardest stage on the game due to the fact that youhave that silly little part wit hthe junctions that always seems to make me go the wrong way every time i attempt that stage :-S

Day 1. Set a good set of time, Good rythm
Day 2. Not doin too well on the wet asphalt, but still ok, the power of the Fabia seemed to pull me out of trouble in one corner, only to put me in alot of trouble in the next.
Day 3. Took it easy over the Col De Turini, and set some fairly good times. I have done most of my Monte testing on snow and ice, so I hit the snow stages full of confidence and nailed both stages, getting surprizingly close to my WRC stagetimes..

Hoping for a good result!

I've made my final decision on my entrant just in time for the beginning of the season. I will be pioneering an S1600 Citroen C2. This will hopefully be a boost to that class. I will not be entering S2000. Rally report to follow.

52Paddy
25th January 2009, 21:25
Day 1: Despite the ideal conditions on the first day, I felt that the FWD really struggled on these stages. They were too twisty. But I was also inexperienced and that would have been the main problem as I got more confident with every stage. It was an optimistic start though.

Day 2: The opening opening two tarmac stages resulted in a lot of understeer with the dry tyres on a wet surface. I got through them ok though. If there was a major downfall to the rally it was the next two stages. I had two major offs on SS7 and the snow stage felt really sluggish. It was hard to put the hammer down at any point.

Day 3: The final day wasn't too bad either, given the restrictions. I was very happy with the tarmac runs, and I realized that a big difference in performances is evident between drizzle and storm conditions. The snow stages were again really sluggish and I didn't bother trying to push hard.

Overall, I am very, very pleased with this opening event. I think I should be able to compete well enough with the midfield pack, at least on the tarmac stages. If my overall position does not live up to expectations, I would just hope that my downfall was indeed the snow stages.

I've been too busy with the relocation that's going to take place this week, so I had to skip the Monte. I might also have to leave out the first CMR2WC round of the season but hopefully I can return to competition after that.

By the way, if any of you can give me some clue as to what the surface in Brazil is like, in addtion to the speed of the stages it would be most appreciated.

Is there any possibility of rain in Brazil in February?

By the way, if any of you can give me some clue as to what the surface in Brazil is like,

http://www.rallydecuritiba.com.br/en/index.htm

Perhaps some of these might help:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n-N-2l4VIY&NR=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iQlxcwz-9k&feature=related

Some weather info:

Seasons in Brazil are the reverse of those of Europe and United States:

Spring: 22nd September - 21st December
Summer: 22nd December - 21st March
Autumn: 22nd March - 21st June
Winter: 22nd June - 21st September

But you should not deduce too much from this division. Truly, this four season pattern is only applicable to southern Brazil. Most of Brazil territory shares a two-season pattern: a rainy season (the summer) and a non-rainy one (the winter).
And it is the rain – not the cold – that you should equate if your destination is the Northeast, the Amazon, or even Rio de Janeiro and surroundings. Though most showers usually last no more than one hour or two, with subsequent sun reappearing, there are more persistent rainfalls, namely at regions with pronounced rainy seasons as the Amazon and the Pantanal.

Errr....wow wasn't expecting that at all! Guess I didn't struggle on the slippery stuff as much as I thought either that or others had some problems.

I found switching the brakes towards the rear much more helped on the wet stages as there's less chance of lock ups or understeer in the Puma. Also, on Day 1 I got close to wRC times in the dry which I suspect might have given me a bit of a cushion.

Roll on Brazil!

Well at least its a top 10. 90 seconds seperates me from the winning S1600. I think I can eat into a lead like that with practice throughout the year. For sure the snow stages really killed my overall time, as well as some schoolboy errors.

Tannat, will you be doing a stage by stage analysis of this one? I'd be interested to see how I fared on the tarmac stages. No pressure now, its a tough job I realize. Just have to ask though :)

Q1 How was your first rally in an S1600? Did you find the FWD a challenge?

Ramore: In fact, it was quite a challenge. On dry tarmac the car was performing very well and the feeling was excellent. On the wet stages the car was a bit unstable yet controllable. On ice and show stages, we were literally all over the place, no grip at all, very challenging. Fortunately, we didn't hit anything, but the times are probably not good. That is where we believe S2000 have great advantage over S1600 cars.

Q2 What is your impression of the conditions on this year's Monte?

R: It was a great rally because of the road and weather changes. The conditions were as tough and demanding as we have ever seen. But that's what make this rally great.

Q3 Previously you have had many fine outings in the WRC. Any intentions of moving up to an S2000 car this season?

R: For now we will stay in S1600. After a couple of rallies we will evaluate our results and if we feel in a disadvantage in terms of car performance, we will probably test S2000 and may be then move to S2000 for the rest of the season. But we believe that S1600 will be competitive for most of the rallies this season, so we will not hurry with such decision.

Well done tannat. Hope you enjoyed the rally as much as we did. And the Michael Parks trophy is a great idea.

So far, all I have to my name is the sole point for Citroen in the manufacturers cup. I'm sure I can put some points on the board throughout the season though.

I knew it was going to be this bad result-wise for me...

Shouldn't the points from the other cups start from 10 too? otherwise it's pretty much the same.

And in March, it doesn't rain much in Brazil

note under each "highest points finish"-based on season points and less math for me
