View Full Version : Reputable rally news sites?

Just wondering which sites people consider to be reputable as we've been shown over the last few weeks that a lot of sites and blogs are just rumours/opinion. Sadly it seems since the WRC experienced a downturn the standard of journalism/reporting has gone way down and any person can do an Auto Express and publish fantastic rumours and by the time they've been shown to be false they've published loads of other rumours which have people captivated.

For me the best (english language) sites for reputable news are
www.Autosport.com (http://www.Autosport.com)
www.crash.net (http://www.crash.net)
www.wrc.com (http://www.wrc.com)
and my friends at www.rallye-info.com (http://www.rallye-info.com) who seem to be more into S2000 than the WRC these days but at least when they post a story it's factual.

Used to love worldrallynews.com but sadly David Williams passed on :(

Where do you get your news? Personally all this tabloid style crap that passes itself off as news these days bores the crap out of me :)

I'd have to agree with you - We are not served particularly well, general media sites, i;e BBC, Newspapers don't cover it at all. Autosport is usually pretty good, however you normally have to be a subscriber to get more in depth stories.
I find rally-info good, yes they do more IRC/s2000 but I think that is reasonable - it seems to be a series trying to make progress.
I find Jerry Williams of Motorsport News entertaining with his weekly rant at the WRC. Pity it's not online.

I find autosport.cz a pretty good site, with actual news, no gossip or rumours and only hard facts. It is unfortunally in Czech language, but nothing Google translation can't solve. :)

I tend to wait for the major news to pass the Autosport test before I believe it. There's just a lot of crap sites on the net.

There is not so many good, maybe http://www.crash.net and http://www.mtv3.fi/ralli/ are good ones.

And for online results the Czech site is very good.

Personally, I tend to both agree and disagree with you. I think rumours is OK as far as it's clear that it's a rumour. But that's just my personal opinion...

The thing is most of their stuff is from other sites. If someone on the forum wanted to they could run a thread with news posted out via forum notification. Original and honest content is what people want and the site is simply either regurgitated crap or rumours :dozey:

Real sites have people on the inside and contact details for drivers and their PR people so they can confirm and reliably report rumour as fact far quicker than the sites which merely aggregate news.

I think the Solberg thread on this forum is the best-informed, most accurate, rumour-free source of WRC information I have ever seen.

rallybuzz.com for me! - great up to date news and well as archive footage and interviews and a daily email!
Often get stories out before wrc.com and autosport!

Sadly the old worldrallynews was the best, nothing has ever come close to it. Autosport is accurate and relaible, but rallying looks to be the poor relation, there can be weeks without a new rally story. I think there are way too many blog / amatuer journalist websites, and the only thing thats worse than that it PR or publicity agents posting "news" about their driver. Unfortunately that even gets onto crash.net.
wrc.com is an outdated concept, a relic of the days when DR & ISC viewd playstation man (or should that be playstion boy) as the most important demographic audience for the wrc, and we have seen where that has got us......

I don't even rate crash.net - the website is poor and radio/website does not work on a mac! When they do offer something wrc/rallying related its seems like its done by someone who is board and little interest appart from filling space.
Autosport is better - and motorsport news website has not been update in years though the magazine is great!
The amatuer / semi pro webiste will be they way forward as it seems very few can make any money out of the WRC/Rallying Managzines and dedicated websites and journalists cost big money. Somthing one no seems to have anymore!

If there were still a WRC Magazine like RallyXS, or there still might be but paying around $20 (10 Euro) or so.... a bit much! But you pay for quality but if the magazines continue to be published and then canceled... then whats the point? :(

Not sure about Rally XS, while it was well meaning - it was a mouthpiece for ISC/FIA. There was nothing particularly hard hitting in it. It made out everything in the sport was fantastic - which wasn't totally true at that time. I know there are plenty of magazines in Europe, but here in UK, there are no Rally dedicated magazines.

I'm sorry but based on my experience these two don't belong to same sentence... :dozey:

Rally XS was not a patch on the Rally Sport magazine (UK publication) from memory Rally XS became dumbed down after John McIlroy was replaced as editor. That became a bit too lifestyle / playstation / a rockstar visits a rally story.

Dont worry most people on here probably bought the magazines too they just weren't all that great.

In terms of websites there is definately a gap in the market for a reputable website that covers rallying exclusively.

I think the problem with a rally magazine is that the information is outdated very quickly - in the age of the internet sites like rallybuzz have reports and pictures on the day of the event where as a printed magazine like Pacenotes and Rally Results (what happened to Rally Results?!) had to wait for the next month.

As for a gap in the market a lot of Rally news and info sites exist and some are better than others, but ask anyone who runs one they ain't retiring to Monaco yet!

Yes, I'm a subscriber - it's a good read, however it finished for the year after the Brazilian GP - so no news about RallyGB and the subsequent stories, i;e Suzuki/Subaru pull outs.

Ah, thanks for appreciation, we are trying to do our best... I also dont like to have rumours in article, I am trying to have all informations, which are published, confirmed. Thats why you have never found on AutoSport.CZ article about Solberg's buying Xsara WRC, Mikkelsen's signing at M-Sport, Grönholm's signing at Subaru, Panizzi's start on Monte with Fabia S2000...

I also loved how one time in RallyXS they asked the drivers if they preferred Danii or Kylie Minogue
