Dont assume that this is definate for 2010, its a gamble to go for an untried team and manufacturer. In my opinion the sharp end of WRC 2010 will be PSA group cars or FIAT.

+1

I assume that Loeb will continue to be the lead driver for the PSA group though, which would make FIAT the more logical choice.

IF they are entering the wrc, I have a hard time imagining them turning down a former world champion. Who would they hire instead really?

I doubt Proton would have any more success than for example Hyundai or Skoda, but of course anything could happen.

Also it appears that peach slices have been brought in to accopmany the cornflakes to make it a memorable campaign...

F1live.com breaking news report.

PETTER SOLBERG JOINS F1.

It was announced today after Petter had his first outings with the cornflakes that he was to contest all F1 rounds for the 2009 season. News was broken in the F1 world today and reining champion Lewis Hamilton was quoted as saying "oh crap, now someone who knows how to really drive has come, were all dead!"

The deal was signed back to back with the change from porridge to cornflakes. Petter was happy to know he was making positive steps forward. He only had time for one short comment which was "We came here not expecting huge things, however I'm happy to come away with this result...also the cornflakes were great!".

More news as it comes in.

Are there any rumors that he will continue with cornflakes after the next 3 days? :)

WRCfan
18th January 2009, 13:55
First impressions have been good with Petter. Since the heavy sluggish starts experienced with the porridge, Petter noted that the cornflakes feel nimble, well controlled and they do the job more than adequately...

There has been talk of a control-breakfast for a little while now, it all depends on whether the porridge manufacturer decides to contest the decision...

alleskids
19th January 2009, 17:03
Prodrive has develooped a Aston Martin for rallies. So If Petter chooses the Aston Martin, he can do all races and rallies with the same car, which same a lot of the budget. If he gets into the gravel traps during the 24 houres of Le Mans, he should be just as fast as when he drives on the tarmac.

a team insider has revealed that petta was " deeply upset " to hear that chris atkinson has tested the same brand corn flakes, on a similar breakfast table.... and finished his bowl faster than petta.
atkinson was said to have left more of a mess than solberg, but the time was quicker.
but in the end it means very little, as atkinson has now moved to "toast with jam" as it is a much better meal allround, having won the peoples vote for the last 5 years running.

Walking in the shoes of his former idol and nowadays friend Martin Schanche, who did Le Mans with his own Argo C2 several times.

I think Petter`s shoes are bigger than Schanches.
Interesting you bring this up, because I think Martin Schanche actually was better than his reputation in C2 racing. The racing establishment laughed at him when he and Birger Dyrstad debuted the Argo JM19 at Monza in 1986, but the laughter soon stilled when the two norwegian amateurs finished the 1000 km race on the podium (3rd) in the C2-class. Martin and a host of different "guest" drivers did a few other strong races in the world championship during the next three years - and also managed to finish the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1988. That was a strong achievement after Martin made a fool of himself the year before when he crashed the Argo in the Dunlop shicane after only five laps of the race.

Anyway, I don`t think Petter Solberg will be a slouch in tarmac endurance racing. Perhaps not of the same class as Loeb, but Petter is a topclass rally driver and he will certainly be able to master any kind of racing vehicle to quite good standards if he is allowed proper practice and testing. So don`t laugh before you have seen it...

He receives a lot of free attention now from the press.
It does not matter what they writes, it is pure bussines and with money you make money.
Many drivers have no money to present themselves everywhere, as Petter does!
Why he doesn't drive some rallies with the same crab car from the Norwegian Subaru team? Money, money, money.....
Petter is such as Duval and a lot of others, does not want to pay to drive but want to be paid!!!!

The article reads "to convert the Xsara for RX", not to sell it. There is no need for Xsaras in RX any more and Kenneth Hansen was competing with a C4 in the ERC even before it was homologated for the WRC. Why should a leading FIA ERC regular use a vintage car…?

Quote from the FIA RX rules:
Division 1: Touring cars

Yep, he can convert it from a WRC to a 'RX Special', as the Xsara is homologated in GpA. It just makes much more sense to build a D1 RX car up from a naked bodyshell. ;)
