What do we know about this years ERC?
Who will do the full season, who is going to take the title? Who will compete in more than his home rallys?
Jolly Club with two Skoda Fabias S2000? Drivers?? Or just a rumour?!?

Are they gentleman drivers or fast drivers?
Karbonyl

Tlustak with C2 S1600 - actually he thinks he's fast, but drives like gentleman mostly :)
Lukas Pondelicek and Tom Pletka with their two C2R2, quite fast boys, but Pletka usually crashes.
Mira Tarabus should enter few ERC events with Punto. This will be his 2nd season in S2K car and it looks promising so far, he scored PWRC points at his first world event outing last december.

Ha ha, that was a classic statement, I think there are more drivers across the whole Europe who also think this way :)
Last year in Antibes Luca Betti was planning another ERC season, but he wasn't sure whether to choose ERC or IRC... Anybody knows what happened with those plans?
Guys, to be honest we have too many rally championships on this planet - WRC, real ERC, Dutch ERC, IRC, Mitropa Cup, the FIA European zones, God knows how may others... Who needs all that?

Matteo Gamba is a good driver and he deserves a chance on international level. I remember how fast he was in his Clio R3. Good luck to this project!

Michal Solowow said that he will drive Mille Miglia and Istanbul rallies. After those two events he will decide what he will do next. Solowow said that he is disappointed that the number of ERC rounds was increased to 11. Maciej Baran, the co-driver in Cersanit Rally Team, said that 9 events would have been enough. Because of this crazy number of events and current economical situation they are not sure how many events they will be able to afford this season.

Don't say that, so have some good competition goiing on the last 2 years. I visit the Eifel and Gassner for example was as fast Jasper Van De Heuvel, which IMHO is a good reference. Gass Jr is starting to beat his dad, and like I said the're is good competition between the Gr N's, so I don't think they are that bad. Normally the GT's should drive away from the Gr N's quite easy, but that isn't the case in Germany.

Sorry, Croatia is not on his calendar. He will do Mille Miglia, Ypres, Isle of Man Rally (GB), Eifel Rallye, Barum Rally, Rally Sanremo, Bohemia Rally and Rallye du Valais as international events. He drives the whole Belgian championship too (Rallye de Wallonie, Sezoens Rally, Ypres Rally, Omloop van Vlaanderen, Haspengouw Rally, Rallye du Condroz), except TAC Rally.
His car is very reliable, he retired only once last year in Isle of Man Rally, all the other events he was at the finish. Unfortunately, this year will be the last season in the Micra as it isn't homologated anymore in 2010 for international events. Yesterday he had a test rally for the Mille Miglia, named Rallye des Ardennes.

Usually all you see is a band of grey aphalt in the bottom of the screen and blue sky in the upper part. How interesting is that?

For me the best way to find out how the stages look like is to see onboard. Videos from some good spectating places can't give me the real picture of the stages.

Fontana is slow on gravel, so he will be no rival.

Basso is coming for the points, so I suppose that he will drive just to be faster than Solowow. Solowow is not so experienced on gravel and I think that he can't match the times of Vovos, as he didn't the last time they meet on gravel, 2nd day of Rally Halkidikis 2007. Ok, Vovos retired after 1st stage of 2nd leg, but as you can see from his times at Rally Thermaikou which took place at the same stages of Halkidikis earlier that year, Solowow was much slower.
On the other hand, Itea stages are well known to Papadimitriou and Vovos, as they competed there many many times at past Acropolis Rallies!
And of course, Solowow and Basso have to clean the roads while Papadim and Vovos starts behind.
So for me, 1st favorit Vovos, 2nd Papadimitriou, 3rd Basso.

You can't compare Barum with Elpa Rally.
In Elpa, there is of course gravel and for me Vovos is the favourite to win the event. I think it will be a nice fight between Basso and Papadimitríou for second place. Basso will maybe not drive full attack, as he will be concentrating on Sołowow. If Basso drives full attack, then he goes off road I think and are his chances on the ERC title very small.

Last year in Elpa Rally (the event was done but did not count for ERC), Vovos and Papajim drove only the 2nd day (gravel) and they had a great battle in which Papajim won for a few seconds!
Vovos "grew up" in these stages and Papajim the same (+ Papajim comes from Itea I think)
As harriswrc mentioned on the first stage of the gravel day of Rally Elpa 2007 (SS8)
Vovos was 35sec faster than Isik and Donchev and almost 1min30'' faster than Solowow.
I believe the differences of Vovos and Papajim will be more or less the same with Solowow and Fontana! Definately this will not be the case with Basso which I think he will be much closer to them and why not challenge them! I also think that Basso has to win ERC! He does not have to win the 2 Greeks to do that!

The difreence between Lancer and S2000 are big and Vovos and Papadimitriou rather can't compete with Basso and even Solowow. After 3 stages Solowow is ahead of Basso - "Solek" seems to feel better on gravel though I think Basso will take lead soon - but we will see.

I thought that Vovos could perform better, at least he could match Papadim's times... But it seems that he is getting older and older... I think that his spuns and break problems are only excuses.

By the way, is that San Marino flag by Papadimitriou's name in the results?
Yes

I agree with Havk. The stages look beautiful, nearly as beautiful as the Halkidiki stages in the nineties. I wish I could see it all live.
For historic photos lovers, pictures from Rally ELPA Halkidiki 1997, courtesy of our friend Harris:

I can confirm you that Halkidiki stages are far better than the roads around Itea.

They are faster and everybody loves them, competitors and spectators!
It's a pity that they are not used at any rally since Halkidikis Rally 2007 :-(

With just one stage to go and over 30-second advantage, it is almost sure that Solowow will win the first day... What is Basso doing?

Info from the stages: It is raining hard at 2nd loop, and at least at ss5, there were foggy conditions and low visibility.

And Abarth sent Basso there rather to Sanremo because they wanted to win at least a championship(ERC) :mark:

Solowow turned around in one of the corners and then had a problem with reverse gear in his car.

Good question Tom. And do you know where is the guy, who said that Papa and Vovos will dominate the event? ;)
lolololol ! :D
And they shout at me after what I said ...
Gr.N cars have no chances against S2000, but eventually the local drivers who know the roads a lot (and be very skilled too) can bring some battle (like Pech in Barum).

Here I am! Judging by the differences of 2007 and the knowledge of the road of Vovos and Papajim I honestly expected what I said! But I was proven wrong...
Both Greeks had troubles, Papajim wrong tyre choice on both loops and Vovos had problems with front differential among others but also Basso and Solowow had problems too...
Basso is clearly the fastest in the stages but also Solowow's performance is very good! Congrats to both them so far.
Tomorrow another very difficult day is coming...

No greek driver is at the level of the europeans yet, as always greek champions are only champions in words and its hard to realise the truth with all the yes men surounding them....even tourists like solowow are better....
Papadimitriou leads in this nerve wrecking rally...lets see what lies ahead.

The third man in the rally, Fontana, is more than 9 minutes behind the leader.
Nioras lost 5 minutes in SS7 due to a puncture.

FLASH SS9
Michal Solowow retired after hitting on a rock; the sump guard of the 207 S2000 has been broken and lost a gear. Now, Giandomenico Basso, who after all set the fastest time in the stage, is 33,9 behind Ioannis Papadimitriou, has only to take care of the car until the finish. Corrado Fontana climbed third overall.

Papadimitriou is the winner!!! Congratulations!
It's the first time that a Greek driver (with a San Marino flag) wins ELPA rally after 2001 when Vovos was the winner.

First Greek since 2001. That is exactly why I didn't believe in a Greek victory in this rally. But I was wrong. Congratulations to Papa!
Here is a video showing what happened to Solowow on SS9. They hit some rock with the bottom of their car and it destroyed the gearbox.

It was a very nice rally, I enjoyed it a lot!!!The weather on Saturday was rainy and foggy!!! It was like RAC!!! I liked Basso's driving!!! He was very fast but the puncture didn't allow him to fight for the win on day 2. Solowow was also very nice to see (he tried as much as he could). Very nice performance by Slavov with his Clio R3, although he has no experience on gravel. Papadimitriou and Vovos were very fast and aggressive. On the other hand, I was disappointed by both Fontana and Tlustak. Jan Cerny's car was very weak on the first SS that I saw him.
Congratulations to Papadimitriou. It was a pity that Vovos retired on the first day and couldn't fight for the win...
Nice to meet PLuto on the SP!!! See you again mate!!!
