The Dakar Rally has 177 cars, 217 motorcycles, 81 trucks & 25 quad bikes
with drivers from 49 countries competing

In the 1st stage Robby Gordon finished 17th
He was 14 minutes, 25 seconds behind the leader, Nasseer al-Attiyah

Robby Gordon rallied into 10th after 2nd stage of Dakar
He is 21 minutes, 32 seconds behind new leader Carlos Sainz

Shame about Stephane Peterhansel, won the Dakar 4 times in the cars, 7 times on the bikes, now out of it after a blown engine.

That Hummer Buggy is better than the one he ran last year. I am hoping Carlos Sainz, the retired WRC world Champ can pull it off this year, so close last time they ran the Rally Raid in Africa.

(Carlos Sainz (the previous leader) dropped out of the race after crashing into a ravine)

I think Robby could have won the stage yesterday if he hadn't had a few problems with the car. It would have been awesome if he could have picked up a stage win.

Hopefully he will bring it home safely today!

Gotta like Robby surviving in some pretty tough conditions. Everyone thinks the Sahara is nasty but from what I saw, South America dished up a nasty little test. Robby is learning to be more patient in his old age...as an off road racer his best years may be in front of him....
